Very informative. If I ever came across bronze timing side bearings in A7/10 or C range Triumphs, invariably the crank shaft would be in need of a re-grind, wheras that was not always the case with other bearing types. That included my own bikes where I knew the frequency of oil changes and the quality and type of oil used. (and that they had been well caned but never lugged)
I'm working on a 2002 Royal Enfield Bullet 500. New head, guides, valves, crank seals, .020 piston, piston rings, oil pumps When it's warmed up and on the side kick stand left side, it smokes. Not wet sumping, sump is dry. I think it's pumping or sucking oil around the valve giudes. I put it up on the center stand and in a minute it stops smoking. I can see oil pooling high around the top of the valve guides. Spitting raw oil out of the exhaust. Any ideas? Is this common?
Very common - and normal, even. The scavenge pick up is on the high side of the engine when leaned like that and the left flywheel runs in and flings the excess oil around, causing the smoke. If it is ok when upright, there is no problem.
