Warhammer 40k vs Age of Sigmar Игры
Age of Sigmar has been ridiculously fun for me, even when i'm on the backend. I just love how back and forth it is!
I appreciate the way you handled this topic. There are a lot of let’s say… “strong opinions” about one being better than the other that usually result in arguments more than conversations, but when it comes down to it it’s all about what you enjoy playing and they aren’t “better” than one another necessarily just different.
Any slight to 40k will be looked upon with extreme Heresy !!!! Also I wanna get more into sigmar but my life is for the imperium ❤
🤣 rightly so haha
Good vid, thanks.
I have been playing 40k for a few years and just starting AoS the last few months.
AoS definitely seems a bit less complicated and less feel bad moments than 40k currently.
I never got the criticism towards "waiting for your turn" I'm always happy to stare at the miniatures anyway 😂
Right! It is fun to stare at the minis 🤣
This video was exactly what I was looking for, I finally actually get the gameplay differences between the systems!
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
brave moment of silence for warhammer fantasy @ 22:45
Oops editing fail there 🤣
Kill team is so back and forth which is so engaging. 40k I just wait to get tabled for 15 minutes or longer. I wish that it was more back and forth. Perhaps each player activates one squad or big unit at a time.
Alternate activation is great. I watched a battle report by On Tabletop who played a game of 40k by alternating activations with one unit at a time and it looked like good fun to try.
@@tabletopskirmishgames I want to try that with my mates now! As always, love your content. No one makes these games feel as accessible as you do. GW should hire you to write the rules
As someone who played Warhammer and 40k like 15 years ago (7th Edition WH and 5th Edition 40k) and who is considering getting back into it, I needed this cause I am so confused between 40k, AoS, and THH.
It's also worth mentioning army sizes. I only have one Sigmar army, so my experience may be misleading, but if I compare my Thousand Sons to my Disciples of Tzeentch, Tzaangors and Spawn are around 3 times as costly in Sigmar, Pink Horrors are about twice as much and elites from TSons (Tzaangor Shaman) can cost many times more and count as a commander in Sigmar. Based on that, it seems like Sigmar is considerably smaller in scale on the tabletop. I wouldn't be surprised if this is true for all the Daemons too... I will also note my TSons Mutalith Vortex Beast is about 50 points cheaper than the Slaves to Darkness version.
I think I prefer the rules for 40k if we are talking about 9th edition, though my favorite in 5th edition is definitely better than AoS for me. Sigmar actually seems like a really fun game though. I do have a bit of problem getting invested in the lore for the setting though.
Been a 40k guy for 33 years enjoyed aome of fanatasy at the start . 40k is for kill team for me now and well age of sigmar has become my new bag baby.
I'm going in that direction myself at the moment.
What’s your thoughts on Warcry?
I don't play tabletop, I just collect miniatures and read books. In my headcanon 40k and Age of Sigmar is the one setting for a long time.
I was scoping your miniature cabinet, maybe you could do a video showing off your hobby area and talking about what you've discovered about things that work and don't work.
I should do that!
Thank you Lee for this video. Many comments made by you and your patreons/viewers echo so true with me.
40ks scale is too big and the story of its world moves so slowly. Long range shooting on turn one is a big problem and makes 40k games feel they who shoot well first, win. There’s there’s the waiting for the other player and lack of interaction. Not to mention the rules bloat and the decision paralysis I get both at the list building stage and then the game itself. This I feel is made worse by the rule release schedule in 40k. For me there are in 40k too many books released too soon. That in my eyes is because 40k is too bloated and impossible to balance because of excessive stratagems, unit structure and weapon choices. AoS gets the right amount of books to love the narrative, update rules and give new ideas without having to buy a new book every month. Books that I add become semi worthless when a new edition arrives.
One factor not mentioned here is that a lot of my local 40k gaming group say that to play 40k you need to use Wahpedia. Aside from it not being official and no doubt being top of GWs list of things to stop as it’s using their IP, if a game needs a 3rd party site to explain when you can do something specific to your army it’s too complicated for me. Fair play to anyone who doesn’t use it and/or likes it, it’s not for me. I play tabletop to get away from screens. Using a screen breaks my immersion. Having the AoS cards, the reduced set of abilities and the simpler unit composition makes AoS hames flow better for me.
Also is it me or does AoS have the better terrain (especially official GW stuff)? 40k is all blown up buildings and thats it (even into the dark has the exact same terrain copied 3 times). Look at the storm vaults for AoS, the endless spells, the faction stuff like the burgle or gloom spite gitz. All these things make the terrain in AoS better.
40k is a juggernaut of a game that’s popular esp for tournaments. A lot of people I care about love it. I love that they love it and it they are passionate about it. I only wish I could be. It makes me feel stupid that I can’t understand 40k (the comment about having too many armies to start with and not feeling I know the rules rings very true). I don’t want to see a world without 40k. I would like to see a casual set of its rules that makes it more like AoS. Keep the crunchy, super detailed, super deep and crammed with using all sorts of books for tournaments and give super casual players like me something I can start with pls GW and who knows maybe I will enjoy playing 40k.
Sorry for the long post and thanks again for the video :)
Open play is the casual format for 40k. But I find it hard to find people wanting to play that version.
Anyone else find that 40k is so overbloated rules wise. Aos is getting there but it feels more streamlined and accessible at least. Also less ranged spam
Modern 40K is simply trash.
@rutgaurxi7314 agreed - I really feel like it's the wargame made for pure power gamers. AoS in its current state feels like an actual well thought out game (has its own issues of course)
Rumor has it 10th Ed 40k becoming more like AoS
If you play either 40K or AOS you gotta play both. Your just missing out if your not. They both scratch a different itch.
my comment made it in the vid ^^
great vid, def each games have some htings i prefer over the other and hopefully someday they take best of both games and add it to each game ^^
the fighting in aos sounds amazing tbh the switching sounds really fun
for know your enemy def aos, i really dislike how much you have to remember for your own army in 40k i really hope they calm it down in 40k 10th edition
don't like that the wounds carry over.
it makes more sense that One strong attack can only hit one model, like if i hit a person with a sledge hammer, the damage does not spill over to the person next to him :D
I don’t know if we lived in a magical world one of those hammers would destroy the earth around it. These guys are said to be 8 feet tall. Yup I could see a hammer being magical.
Imagine one big guy sweeping with his weapon. It makes much more sense to kill a few puny humans than just one
I’m hyped! I’m going to play a game of Death Guard Vs Orks tomorrow!
And a game of Maggotkin Vs Sylvaneth next Wednesday.
It would be great if 40k included War Scrolls. AOS is so much easier in keeping on top of what your units do when you are starting out
I thought that's what data cards were? I don't play 40k so I just assumed!
Having the cards to hand is awesome, same with Warcry. Would be great if they made them for Kill Team and 40k for sure.
Saving money to collect me some Old World!!
I never realized until "Mr Circle" pointed it out: but many of the sculpts from both Aos and 40K share so many of the same poses...
I'm glad that I play older Necromunda=)
I'm sure some of the heads crop up across the games
Thanks for the comparison, I’ve never really looked at Age of Sigmar before. Looks pretty fun but too bad I have a 40K backlog lol
Interesting to see AOS rising
It's a really fun game, the rules are written nicely, models look awesome lots to like!
Brilliant, thank you :)
You're very welcome, thanks for watching!
To bad your tournament is so far away :) ... . hope we get some real cool videos on this channel.
I'll be there filming all day, might do a live video too.
40k can learn a lot from Aos.
A lot is nowhere close to "everything".
🤣
Very well done. 40K is brutal trying to get into, literally a hot mess. Coming from wargames and other WWII tabletop games 40K is as disheveled as it gets. AoS is a much better transition into the Warhammer world. Once you've been around a bit 40K gets easier to digest.
Thanks! I gave up when the new edition came out, but did really enjoy AoS.
I agree that warscrolls cards are GREAT to have... 40k with its weapon options just made it impossible for itself to do
i like them both to be honest but i can't afford any of them right now
INITIATIVE: I can’t speak to AoS, but in 40k....In earlier editions of the game, getting the first turn wasn’t such a big deal. In general, the game was much less bloody(?). You just couldn’t do as much damage in one turn. And there was less opportunity to make huge advances and/or deep strikes on the first turn. But the pace of the game, in general, was much slower. Less of a blitzkrieg and more like a WWI war of attrition. In making combat in general, and shooting in particular, more deadly; probably in an effort to make the game more exciting and dynamic; GW has made getting in that first shot much more crucial. Adding in all kinds of potential movement buffs has made it even more possible to get that first strike in. I feel like moving to alternating unit activation might be the way to go.
Question as someone who hasn't played in over a decade. Is there a huge discrepancy between who plays 40k and AoS? I remember back in the day I preferred Fantasy over 40k but like 90% of people I knew who played, only played 40k and not Fantasy. Is there a similar discrepancy with AoS or is it more popular?
So on one of the comments you used in the video the person stated that AOS is on a planet. The setting of AOS is not a planet. The Mortal realms are near infinite Realms in the aetheric void.
Do a video about 40K and Warhammer Fantasy before 2015. 3rd edition to 8th edition.
I wish there was easy to paint 40k lol 😂
That would be good 🤣
Necrons?
never saw a video with your face in it. beautiful eyes 👍.
i think the seconr tourn is essential so much cool and the idea to have a not end fight with my anamy is so real like a real combatment has and has also more sense. 40 K is so unreal i am sorry...
Okay, let’s see. MODELS: I’ll agree with you that AoS has an edge in just raw visual appeal. SETTING: Here’s where I begin to have issues with AoS. It’s just TOO fantastic. 40k tests my suspension of disbelief, AoS breaks it. Dwarves flying around in metal blimps? Giant Elf fish flying through the air? It’s just a bit over the top for my taste. So that’s my barrier to entry. Too much magic.
Yes, I like the more basic unit composition of AoS. 40k just provides too many options. The war scroll cards - excellent. Yes, you can make your own for 40k. Shoot, with all the unit options you almost have to. I make my own for Kill Team. But it would be nice to be able to just buy a nice set from GW (yes I know there are places to download pdf’s). But again, with all the options for 40k units, probably not feasible.
And speaking of options. Holy crap. There’s just too much volume of data in 40k for me. Too many stratagems, too many relics, too many weapon options, too many faction options within a given army that provide different strengths and abilities. For ME that is, like you said Lee, not a bad thing for the right person, but I’m not that person.
Last comment, Open Play in 40k. I like it. Drop the CP’s. Leave out named characters with over the top abilities. Just play with the basic units without all the different options. But, unfortunately for me anyway, 40k tends to attract the kind of player who really appreciates the complexity, and isn’t interested in simplicity.
Age of sigmar all day
100%
I think in Age of sigmar the game is faster the rule are more solid. And like a real battle the turn is fast cruel and raw. And the 2 turn give you the idea how much can be real , lose your strenght in 15 minuts.
Probably in 40 k this work less. Too much rules... Too much stuff.. The people want fun and action.
Necromunda has the best miniatures and setting.
Underworlds has the best game mechanics.
40K has the most epic battles
AOS has great models, lore and books.
Until AoS drops the double turn it will remain the worst, least fun, pointless table top game ever.
I don’t play AoS, but I was watching a game at a small FLGS tournament... One guy lost the initiative roll, I think on turn 2, giving the opponent a double turn... he just started packing up his models in preparation for the next round. He didn’t seem angry, but it looked like the players agreed that the game was over at that point.
You are dead wrong.
@@earnestwanderer2471 sounds like he played an Alpha strike list and went all in on the double. That’s not a fault of the game that’s the risk he probably took.
The initiative roll is a non starter argument. Anyone who actually plays AOS knows this
@@elias1579 no, I'm absolutely right. AoS is trash. It's boring, bland, and has no redeeming qualities beyond models.
The double turn is the primary reason people don't play it (ignoring GW prices of course). Anyone I know who does play doesn't use the double turn rule specifically because it ruins games.
