Fly Fishing the Sava Bohinjka River, Slovenia - July 1, 2023

My last day of fishing in Slovenia! I asked my guide Uros Kristan, with URKO Flyfishing Adventures, to take me to a scenic river that is somewhat easier to fish, so we are exploring the Sava Bohinjka River, a beautiful alpine stream.
A storm was forecast to roll in, so as expected the fish were not too active early in the morning. Some rises started and Donna caught some fish on dries and nymphing.
After the rain came through, rainbows started to feed and Donna landed several nice ones, really made the day!
Uros showed me a small pool full of meter long and bigger huchen, or Danubian salmon,. What an amazing sight and lucky to see so many huge submarines swimming around. I will have to return in winter to fish for them in the near future. What a blast it would be to catch one of those monsters!

Uros is absolutely amazing as my guide, I would recommend to anyone who wants to fish in Slovenia! He can spot every fish in the river!
