Flyfishing on Baum Lake, 10/31/24 - 11/2/24
The temperature was at the low 50's with fish rising mid afternoon when it warmed up. Fun catching rising trout, rainbows and browns about 10-13in. The last morning was colder and trout were taking nymphs on the swing and slow strip back.
The beautiful fall colors and rainbow over Baum Lake was a sight to take in! Fishing with my friends George and Eric made it even more special.

Fly Fishing on Hat Creek, October 30-31, 2024
Просмотров 5721 день назад
Donna O'Sullivan drove up to fish Hat Creek, and it was getting quite windy in the afternoon. Donna and her friend Georged decided to fish at Cassel, where it is more sheltered. To our surprise there were trout rising. My friend George had a lot of success with his floating nymph, while I fished dry and dropper. For Donna, the trout took quite a range of dries and nymphs and it took some time t...
Flyfishing on Hat Creek, CA - 10/30/24

Beautiful autumn colors on Hat Creek made fishing a pleasure, despite slow activity due to the drop in temperatures. Dry and dropper setup is always effective and resulted in a pretty brown trout about 10-11in 1st thing in the morning. Mostly small trout were caught most on the droppers with some of Donna O'Sullivan's newly tied nymphs used for the first time, it's so rewarding to test them and...

Steelheading on the Rogue River, OR - 10/24/24

The weather turned cold all of a sudden to the 50's, and not much activity swinging flies. Fall colors were amazing on the Rogue, and around 1pm, there was a may fly hatch with trout rising. My guide Nate changed my Zalt 7wt to a dry fly setup, with the one and only PMD emerger in Donna's fly box that matched the hatch. A welcome surprise for almost 2 hours of dry fly action catching cutthroats...

Drove up to the Upper Sacramento and fished a few hours in the afternoon. Fall colors on the river made for a beautiful setting! There were a few sporadic rises and Donna O'Sullivan could see a few baetis, pmd and even a trico. A trout finally took a #20 trico, it was a pretty rainbow only 8 inches but Donna was so happy to catch one on a dry fly. Fished another 30 minutes in Dunsmuir and the O...

Donna O'Sullivan fished the Stanislaus River late morning. The river was at 221 cfs and wadeable, but there was not much insect activity. Fishing a dry and dropper setup on the LTS Finesses 8ft6 4wt fly rod with LTS Polyline WF4F, LTS Color2 3/4wt reel, Donna got a nice trout that took the light Cahill dry fly. This was a beautifully pink rainbow trout about 14" that made Donna's day!

The 5th and final day of fishing in Slovenia on the River Idrijca started off slow with the low water and spooky trout. Really thrilled to catch a nice hybrid marble/brown trout and a couple of rainbows in the morning. Later in the afternoon, some rain and mist changed the dynamics of the river. Trout started feeding actively on nymphs with some rises to dry flies and emergers. Uros and I final...

A fun and relaxed afternoon of grayling fishing on the Ljubljanica River, Slovenia. It is only a few minutes drive from where I stayed in Vrhnika. The river was really low, but there were many eager graylings in skinny water. Missed a really big grayling, but had fun catching the smaller ones. Thanks again to Uros Kristan, Urko Fishing Adventures, who always gets me into fish!

Donna O'Sullivan wanted a more relaxed day of fishing, so Uros took her to fish the Bistra River, which is a local river only 5 minutes away. Despite the conditions, Donna caught several nice graylings on dry fly and some on nymphs. Huge thanks to my guide Uros Kristan...

Soca River, Slovenia I thought it's some unknown river and town in Montana then I noticed the guide guy has an accent and realized you're in Europe... Slovenia is a country broke away from former Yugoslavia. Seems you're having a ton of fun catching nice rainbows and those marvelous Marble trout... when water is that clear the fish will see you or the line as rising it's so difficult to present dry flies. My dream fishing destination is Kamchatka, Russia for Salmon and arctic char... Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks for watching Jason! The river is super clear and the presentation needs to be perfect. I was very fortunate to have Uros Kristan as my guide, in my opinion he is one of the best guides for Slovenia rivers! That was why I caught so many fish :-) Last year I caught about half of this year's trout, and only 2 marbles from Soca. The river gods were smiling on me on this trip! Russia will be out of reach for sometime. You could fish Iceland and get atlantic salmon, artic char, seatrout and big browns. It is also beautiful and pristine!

You may want to play those bigger fish on the reel, rather than leaving line floating all over the place. Could cause some heartbreak one day. Gotta love the way a GoPro lens and a 4-weight turn 8" fish into epic-looking rod bends, though! Fun stuff! Hat isn't always so generous with her gifts!

    • @dmosull1
      @dmosull1 10 месяцев назад

Thanks for the advice Bill! However, it's not always possible to get the line back on the reel to fight the fish, I have lost fish trying to do that and I just strip the line, if it's not a really big fish. The LTS Finesse 4wt rod makes fighting those smaller rainbows a lot of fun, although it has handled 20+in fish really well too. Hat Creek is definitely tough at times. Hi Reid, there are not many spots to fish from the shore. You can fish at the riffle that comes into Baum Lake from Crystal Lake, or right off the car park where you see me in the video. You need to be careful of the mud when wading there! Best way is to have a float tube or water craft, you will have access to way more areas for fishing. Good luck and tight lines! Week days are better for less pressure.
