Hi Michael. I’m new to orchids and have just found myself with this one in my collection. My first non-Phalaenopsis :) this is the first time I’ve seen an explanation of its history of the hybrid and how the name came to be. Very informative and a great video thank you!

I had this orchid, this is big plant. But in terms of fragrance it was the best orchid I ever had! Fragrance was so strong that when blooming ended I made sachet from dried flowers! It is still fragrant, seven years later! I will get this plant again!

I love the look of this flower. I find this plant to root *very* vigorously in s/h. Mine is a backbulb division so I don't expect any blooms on the current growth but I am hopeful it will bloom on the next one.

I think you're right, it would have performed amazingly from the start if I had any clue what I was doing back then, haha! I'm sure it will reward you with beautiful blooms

I bought my first orchid today! I'm already wanting to repot it into a semi-hydroponic pot. I watched your other video where you cleaned up an orchid and was using a tall glass vase. Did you drill your own holes? I remember in the 80s I used oblong hydroponics stones. Back then there wasn't a lot written about needing a reservoir. I'm glad I found you and @missorchidgirl

hi Michael...i have this orchid.. and when it blooms it blooms.. it to me has a spicy scent... its a strong upright flowering plant.. but mine has suffered from being moved from indoors last year to outside under cover and then inside again... it did not like it one bit... and then it is in a glass vase now with small pebbles in the bottom and little water.. i could not keep up the moisture to my omcid types.. .but hoping for better results...

I love your videos and growing style. I got my mom's mini phal set up in this style so hopefully it does a lot better in her environment. I prefer to grow mine in a more natural style that mimics how they grow in the wild, so i use a lot of mounts and rocky-type medias. I've successfully gotten my caulaelia mizoguchi cutting to re-bloom bare root after taking a few pseudobulbs from the mother plant! But I guess it's a lot easier to grow stuff in Hawaii because of the humidity and such 😅 But anyway, it would be awesome to see more bloom profiles in the future! It would also be cool to see a video where you explain why you chose the ones you have and/or which ones you really wish you had or are planning to get.

I'm so jealous, Hawaii is orchid heaven!!! Maybe I'll move there when I'm older and retire just taking care of my plants, haha. Great concept for a video, I definitely will!

I wish I could stay just for the plants, but unfortunately it's terribly expensive to live here and I just got a job in North Carolina. I hear there's some awesome orchid nurseries on the east coast. I'll have to check them out ;) Oh, I recently obtained a bunch of keiki's of epidendrum radicans 'pink powder puff' (a small reed-stem epidendrum with tiny clusters of lavender/pink flowers) and epidendrum 'lake view angel' (a larger reed-stem epidendrum with sort of yellow/orange and pink blooms). Would you like to try some luck with this genus?

THAT SO.CAL BRONZED YOU FOR GODS THO 👏🏽☀️✨.
speaking of bronze, I just ordered a Cattleya velutina. Beautiful yellow and bronze flowers with a waxy appearance. She stands very much apart from the typical cattleya's which tend to feature cool whites, blues and purples. Please give her a look and christen your new move with a warm-mood Cattleya velutina!

Great looking plant! I haven’t watched all your videos. Any Zygopetalums? I have one that has not rebloomed for me yet and is now starting to produce its second set of pseudo bulbs since I got it in the spring of 2018. They too are growing much higher than the original pseudo bulbs.

Michael I have one of these that seems to not be adapting very well. I got it out of its pot and put it up in a tree that has some nice coverage. Is there anything I can do to help it along a little better?

I have just purchased one of these orchids and I can’t wait for it to arrive, do I treat it like my other Oncidiums which I keep in bark mixed with higher % sphagnum moss ?
Thank you for the video xx

Hi Michael, please help me?.. I have this exact plant, I inherited it off my mum along with all her other orchids but mine looks nothing like this and is constantly on the verge of death. One tiny little shard of leaf at the moment, the best it ever got was two or three leaves about 15cm long. I just don't know what it wants or how to care for it, can you please offer me some advice? As it's such an amazing orchid I would love so much to be able to get it to the stage of yours.

Hi Micheal, I bought the same beautiful orchid yesterday. I'm just starting my collection. However, the orchid leaves have many small round black spots on the leaves. The vendor explained as calcium deficiency, but I'm concerned its a fungus. What do you think?

Congratulations on the rebloom! It looks great! Mine is growimg like crazy in semi hidro and I can't wait to see it again in bloom. Did your plant start a new pseudobulb before flowering?

  • @jochenkrebs9685

The MM smells like cinnamon, behind the watering it gives you a very strong fragrance and when sun goes down too.
I cut some old bulbs without leaves and put it in hydro and they give new growth 3 month later. It takes a while the MM is not the fastest grower. I give them a constant fertilizer with 350-500 µs all over the year. Strong LED light is recommended and gives more flowers. But they don´t like to dry out.
Best Regards from Jochen Stuttgart Germany
