I don’t know if pill form the best way to take in the 80’s and 90’s but I’m sure it’s easier on the nose 😂. Booger sugar aside I love his video’s! A sure fix for us Marshall enthusiasts 🤘😎
The jubilee was made to be darker than stock 800. It was refined to eliminate some tonal downfalls of the 800 when artist used pedals to push them. That midrange on the jubilee is built in to the amp intentionally. It's a boost notch. And works in conjunction with the treble. The jubilee option to be darker and smoother
Yeah this is by far the best sound I've ever heard from a Marshall. This recording and Euge's tone on "Crossing the Line" are by far my favorite Marshall sounds.
You know Euge, your description of this amp, and how it compares to the 800 is absolutely spot on. Opening up the master volume on the Jubilee is the key and for me, it functions better as a 1 channel amp. I now own an 800 2204, modded. The difference is night and day. Ok I probably have a bit more gain on tap, but inparticular the bass response for the 800 is exactly as you describe. The 800 is just in a league of it's own, but the jubilee also has its place.
Loved the arpeggio in the opening song. Awesome :D Also this is currently my favourite amp. Never lets me down, and the noise floor is amazingly low as well!
Some great shredding Euge. Really enjoy listen to your demos. The Marshalls have a great mid range crunch that most amps don't have, the jubilee is no exception. The Gibson LP standard is a killer sound.
Out of all of my tube heads, the 2555X got most playtime with my band. Now I have a 2nd band and I get to try them all again but I bet the Marshalls will be on top =)
I would have loved to see a comparison with an original Silver Jubilee from 87, but I guess is not easy to find one of these. Most people say the reissue is not woth buying compared to the original, because of the lack of tone and the excessive harshness of the reissue, but the original costs x3 times this reissue... Thanks for the video Euge!
Yeah they’re pretty rare but I’ve used an OG and they’re pretty much the same amp. Tube amps, and especially old Marshalls, could sound / behave quite differently from each other so it’s a bit like comparing apples to oranges. I’ve played with a few JCM800 2203x re-issues and they’re pretty much the same than my OG 800 2203s from the 80s; all different but in the same ballpark.
Hey Euge, it would be really cool if you could get your hand on & demo a Ceriatone amp. They have a bunch of modded Marshall style amps (for decent $) with clipping diodes for high gain like the Jubilee. Your demos are the best because they are in in/out the mix with rhythm & lead tones, showcasing what amps can really do. Love it! Keep up the good work!
I actually own Ceriatones version of this amp and the real deal from '87. They are VERY close. In a blind test, good luck trying to figure it out. Lol. Ceriatone makes some amazing amps for sure.
Man I love the hell out of my Jubilee. It started as a Ceritatone kit but basically all the components were upgrade internally and the builder opted for Drake and ClassicTone transformers. The thing with the EQ I've heard (not sure if it's how it actually works or not) is that the EQ knobs only subtract frequencies from the signal path. So running all the knobs at 10 is what the true sound of the circuit sounds like. Unsurprisingly, this is by far my favorite way to play the amp. I can get it sounding great in lots of other EQ settings but I ALWAYS end up with every knob all the way up and then Depth, master and gain set to taste. The presence and treble pushed really hard tame the otherwise woofy low end from the bass being cranked. I've currently got a Jackson Audio Goldenboy in front of the amp in the green tube screamer mode and everything just sounds so good.
You summed up the difference perfectly in this video. Jub would benefit from greenbacks. It’s great to hear ya playing with some passive pickups more often. 😁
My other guitarist had one back in the 80s. My 50 watt JCM kept up but when I got my Mark IV he was pissed. So he got another cab and that solved it. Then it was volume wars constantly pissing off my singer and bass player. Drummer loved it.
@@EugeValovirta230V have you played a Marshall Origin? They're supposed to get in the territory of a plexi, but I'm also curious if with some pedals if it can get close to the 800 sound?
Great video thxs so much Euge. Both are great, Jubilee is more flexibility I mean you can do everything what 800 do in a Jubi, but not viceversa, jubi has more power more punch, modern distortion and other hand great clasic sound and cleans, 800 is more clasic sound.
Your videos are awesome! Great sound and playing. One day I need to get Marshall head... and from your recordings I am sure it has to be JCM800, one channel 100W \m/
Great comparison! Love the sounds! Have you ever considered doing a 2205/2210 comparison to the classic 800 or to the silver jubilee since both feature optional clipping diode sound?
just stick a 2.2n cap inline after the first stage coupling cap. should be able to stick it on the input of the gain pot. it'll remove the honking bass
Because it’s the same amp 😎. I’ve had my two old 800s since ’90s and the two others I’ve bought in recent years so I haven’t found any need to search for a JMP since I already have four 2203s 😁. I used to own a JMP from ’79 back in the day and sold it to a friend ’cos I had five 2203s at that time 😎.
Great demo Euge!!!Had a suggestion from a player to try the Friedman Buxom boost with the Jubilee. It is a clean boost with massive amounts of gain .It seem to push the front end really well into scream mode. Please try one on your channel for comparison.Ps,Cool piece you wrote for the video!!Cheers,Wendell.
Fantastic as usual and loved the rhythm chops. I have a question? I use a 5150 peavey combo and a classic30, I would like a delay and a chorus pedal, how important is stereo for your use? Stereo is better sounding but not really sure how important it is. I’m a home player. Thank you.
Thanks! I’m recording guitars always mono and all my rigs (live, studio etc.) are mono. I used to have a big ”refrigerator” stereo rig with a few different preamps and a stereo power amp but realised after a while that I only need a simple Marshall JCM800 with SD-1, CE-5 chorus and a wah in front 😎.
Interesting to compare your thoughts on the 2210 and the Jubilee, just watched the 2210 video as well. Seems the Jubilee comes out better than the 2210 but the 2203 is always top dog?!
Hey man! Been watching your videos a lot 🤘🏻 and have noticed that you really don’t care for the settings on the amps. I wanted to ask you or anyone reading my comment. Do you guys have issues with settings from day to day. Like day 1 I set my amp thinking this will be the forever setting and love them that day. Then day 2 comes and the sound of them has changed (in my mind) or at least I don’t like the sound as much. Have you ever had this issue before? Seems like everyday I have to fight with the amp to dial the sound I want. But just the day before I had it dialed as I wanted. I truly can’t understand why is this and how to fix my approach. Since I’m spending more time dialing the amp than actually practicing 😅
Glad to hear! Thanks! The positions of the knobs are totally secondary to me. I just dial amps (and gear in general) by using my ears to get what I want for any situation / song / production / sound I’m looking for. Changing a cab/speaker or even a mic/mics in front of the cab/speaker changes the tone a lot like does changing a guitar. I’ve never understood the ”settings” thing ’cos the knobs are there so that you can tweak the right tones for any given situation. What worked for the previous song might not work for the next one. Or what worked yesterday might not work for today. I never practise with amps or any gear but just with the guitar. When it sounds good just like that it’ll sound good no matter the gear. I had a an original silver jubilee 2555 from 1987 (gold faceplate, black tolex) back in the 90s. Sadly I was poor at the time and sold it for little money as I wanted a 5150. The prices for these used amps after the 2000 skyrocketed. Little did I know back then how to dial a good Marshall. sound.
Thanks for another great video Euge. Can I ask how you like your Tectake chair? I am needing a new chair that I can play guitar on and do some work? Many thanks again.
Marshall uses those plastic jacks on everything from the MG to the dsl up to the made in England stuff. I guess they’re reliable but they sure look cheap in my opinion, surly they could find a decent switching jack with a metal barrel and nut. I just think a metal sleeve and anodized metal nuts would look more high quality. I’ve always been interested in the Jubilee since I heard Slash used one in the early GNR days. People didn’t like that they had clipping diodes in them, but everyone had a modded plexi with clippers in many cases, so I think the Jubilee was Marshall’s first attempt at a modded Marshall. I still don’t understand why Marshall has done a factory modded plexi based on some of the popular mods that amp techs were doing back in the day. I think they would sell a buy of them. I still think the Bad Boy just sounds meaner , bigger and more complex than any amp you ever demo, you get your tone out of anything but the Bad Boy is the holy grail 800 sound people used to say a Marshall sounded different every time you plugged them in, and it’s true for about any tube amp due to the wall volts, but also parts spec drift and the inevitable stack up of the parts falling within spec but towards one end or the other and the pure blind luck of someone grabbing caps and pots out of the dunnage and you get a few re😢exceptional examples like Euge’s bad boy . The jubilee probably has the best clean channel of any Valve driven Marshall until the JVMs . Marshall had some incredible sounding clean channels on their solid state amps like the fifty split channel reverb had amazing cleans , I think they were trying to make a SS version of two channel 800 with it, but I never liked the dirty channel but the clean side was sweet and a pretty good pedal platform.
Love this composition! I love the dark interwoven with the bright. I'm always interested in how the amp sounds without the pedals and I'm also interested your take on distortion pedals and the idea that they are an imitation of a distorted tube amp, so if you could get that distortion without the pedal is that better? In setting the pedal is it better to add alot of distortion to a clean sound or a little boost to a distorted sound? Are you back from tour or did you record this before you left? Too many questions! Thanks for your music, your amp comparisons and the benefit of your experience!
Thanks! I guess I pretty much answered / showed those in the video but I dial a good basic mildly overdriven sound from the amp which cleans nicely when rolling down guitar’s volume and then adding an overdrive to boost the preamp tube(s) into more distortion = overdriving the tubes with an overdrive 👌😎.
Awesome video and great amp sounds as always, I would love to ship you my SL2555 Jcm Slash to do a comparison with the 2555x but it's heavy and it will cost too much. 🤘
I prefer the SJ, much more, over the 800. It just seems to have a much more articulate gain structure. It's not as compressed and fizzy as the 800, and there is definitely a more mid-focus on the Jubilee. It almost reminds me a little bit of the mid-focus of a Soldano (just a hair). Is the EQ as incredibly sensitive as the Mini Jubilee??? Wish I lived closer, so I could take advantage of the discount. That's a great amp. It sounds a little bit "nasally" in this case, but it sounds incredibly articulate. The mini Jubilee was like that. You had to be careful with the presence, treble, and mids or the tone would thin out, and get really "nasally", which is a tone killer. But, once that's dialed out, there is absolutely no fizz to it, and its articulate and crystal clear.
@LTM Yup! I've got one going through a Friedman 4X12 (two V30's & 2 greenbacks), and it's such a badass little amp. Not a big fan of the clean, given I'm a plexi/bassman clean guy. But, the gain channel, if not over-used, is just spectacular, and worth every spent. I have it with my Little Sister which I love just as much, just in a different way. The LS, just can't get that mid-focused, supper articulate, throaty-growl that the Jubilee get's. I'll definitely check out tube swap, as well. Any chance you got a demo of that? 👍
As always, another great video. I was thinking of investing in a silver jubilee. Now I think I’ll stick with the JCM800. It’s never let me down, and does exactly what I want. 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
I guess you will never like any amp but the 800 and I am kidding. I strongly recommend trying Joe Bonamassa's setting on that amp Pre 4 Bass 10 Mid 6 Tre 4 Out Master 10 and Gain 6 them setting do sound amazing with greenbacks :)
Damn!!!! Immediately impressed, i freaking love that Marshall tone! American guitars and British amps has always been the perfect marriage imo

Marshall had some incredible sounding clean channels on their solid state amps like the fifty split channel reverb had amazing cleans , I think they were trying to make a SS version of two channel 800 with it, but I never liked the dirty channel but the clean side was sweet and a pretty good pedal platform.
👌🙏
I've wanted one of these for years but now the GAS is unbearable
😎🤟
Hi. Is this amp similar to the one used by Slash ? Thanks
Yes.
I have the silver jubilee , the slash afd100 and jvm410h. Love my jubilee. Try the afd100 out though. It totally rocks !
Cool! Yeah I’ve played with afd back in the day and it does the job 👌.
Please please write a song to the Jube song! Been having this vid on repeat just for the song jam!
Yeah it's on my latest solo album HARDTONES: lnk.to/hardtones
@@EugeValovirta230V got it! Gone without a Trace!!! As you say, Rock and Roll!
Awesome video and great amp sounds as always, I would love to ship you my SL2555 Jcm Slash to do a comparison with the 2555x but it's heavy and it will cost too much. 🤘
Thanks! Too late anyway since I already returned the amp to MusiX and it’ll most likely sell quite fast since the price is really good 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V Very cool, That's a great amp
What studio desk are you using in this video ?
Jag gillar innan när det gäller dig ☺️
Jag vill ha 20 watts combon och släpa till replokalen.
👌🤟
Could you demo a mesa boogie Fillmore head !! Just got one want to see what you can do tone wise!!
If I ever get my hands on one. Boogies are quite rare in Europe atm but hopefully someday.
You Rock dude
Thanks!
Drop D - the best default tuning.
Rocking!

🕺🤟
Hello Jedi master , how good is the jubilee, how does it stack up against a jcm 800 , Plexi 4 whole and a 5150 ? Nice demo 👍
Comparison to 800 is in this video 👌. Plexi is a plexi and 5150 is 5150. Different amps in so many ways that won’t even start to write anything 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V your right , to much info. To share .
As far as I remember the mini Jube was like the big bro 😎.
@LTM Very cool of you to share....thank you again for the tube-tip. I never would've thought of that on my own. 👍
The sound little bit reminds me the soldano with more something “rage” 😂
Euge, did u get the Tonex pedal yet? Would like a capture from you 😊
Nope. You’re not the only one 😎.
Pure rock and roll
As always, another great video. I was thinking of investing in a silver jubilee. Now I think I’ll stick with the JCM800. It’s never let me down, and does exactly what I want. 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
800 2203 👊🤟
I get it. Thank you!
Oh I like my Plexi, 5150 Block Letter and Boogie Mark V a lot too 😎👌.
Already returned the Jube to MusiX.
