Having a supercharger for the low down and the turbo for higher speeds makes it a rather quick car. I've not driven one, but as an owner of the 122hp single turbo I know it will be really quick in comparison lol.
He should stretch the gears a bit more. He shifts too early 4-5 and 5-6. Better to stretch to about 6300-6400 rpm. Don't be fooled by the "the power is already dropping there", that is only half the story, because even being so, it pays off, as in the next higher gear you lose a big amount of wheel torque. The shorter the gear the higher wheel torque you have that helps accelerating. You want to change when the power drops too much. But going up to 6300 rpm in cars like this, you gain acceleration time and helps attaining a higher speed before upshiting

Gang schafft er nicht die Höchstgeschwindigkeit. Maximale Leistung und Drehmoment hat er nur im 5.Gang und da schaffe ich etwa 227km/h mit 18 Zoll 235er Reifen. Das Interieur vom 6er Golf ist dennoch schön anzusehen. !!
I was looking on purchasing a similiar car in Northern Ireland for around 5000£ I have done some researching and found that there has been frequent problems with that generation size engine have you found a problem? people say get the 2.0 but the insurance is ridiculously high as I am a new driver. Some help would be really appreciated

Get away from it. Better 2012+. Prior you will have to change chain, tensioner and that stuff at about 1000-1200 €, and the CAVD is more prone to piston failure, which, if happens, only solution is new engine. 2012 card have another engine code with revised pistons and also probably have the revised chain tensioner. Choose also a manual, get away of the dry-clutches DSG7. A 2.0tsi is better, much more performance and will have only the chain/tensioner problem if < 2012
ich sag halt nur Stahlfelgen mit Winterreifen: ist ja noch alles gut,aber dann fährst du mit denen vmax, obwohl die wahrscheinlich für solch "hohe" Geschwindigkeiten nicht zugelassen sind...vermute du hast am Reifen kein H, VR oder V stehen? :D
+s.tanic Der Besitzer des Scirocco hat tatsächlich Winterreifen mit Geschwindigkeitsindex V aufziehen lassen. :-D Andernfalls hätten wir die Vmax-Fahrt nicht unternommen. Gruß

On the needle. About 215 at the most for real. Going solo without passenger would have been better, he would have hit 235 or so on the needle, depending on the slope, for a bout 220-222 real. The oficial real top speed figure for this car is 218 km/h. But slope changes greatly affect the result you can obtain on a public road

This engine has some problems with pistons and the chain... If they are changed and the car is serviced then yes.
