If you get tiered of the 6.5 NeedMoor then want way bigger I build and sell Highly custom AR 10 uppers in wildcat cartridges and noncommercial chamberings. So, if you like the 6.5 bullets I build AR 10 uppers in 6.5 -284 Norma and in 6.5-300 WSM I have an AR 10 upper coming up for sale in 300 WSM And if you want really Big! I build a Big Bore AR 10 in 375-300 WSM that is a match in power to the 375 H&H magnums. I hunt with my own AR 10 in 375-300 WSM and another AR 10 in 6mm-284 win and one more upper in 6.5-284 Norma. The next batch of AR uppers will be AR 15 in the Nazi German 7.93x33 Kurz then coming up in AR 10 is one upper in 6mm-284 Win and an AR 10 upper in 250 Savage and the AR 10 upper in 300 WSM. I have up for sale now AR 10 upper in 358 win. Coming AR 10 uppers are in 7mm WSM /// 6.5x51 jap /// 25 - 300 WSM I am using Pac Nor Barreling super match stainless barrels.
If you are in the Pacific NW, I often let prospective buyers, come to shoot my custom AR 10 uppers to see if this is what they might want. I am sure shooting the AR 10 in 375-300 WSM or an upper in 300 WSM or maybe the 2 uppers in 6mm-284 win and 6.5-284 Norma you will like just as everyone who have shot them and bought the uppers like them
Rex, I got diagnosed with cancer in late June. I had the kidney removed on the 26th of November. I've watched many, many of your instructional videos. Great video Nothing but the blood for me
I have enjoyed your channel for years. I’ve learned so much that I didn’t know, I didn’t know, if that’s not too redundant to understand. I just want to thank you for being a beacon of real practical knowledge.

I wish you could see how offended and fragile your ego is to go through such machinations to put down who ever it was who pointed out that is was on backwards according to design intent. we all have growth opportunities. Heed this advice from an older wiser man.
I mounted a scope like that once to clear the backup sights. I posted a review of the scope on RUclips, and so many people commented on how I was an idiot that the algorithm promoted the video.😂 It made it my most popular video!
I like a traditional AR-10 .308 with a 16 inch barrel and an LPVO. Aero Precision or PSA for parts availability. I can caliber swap from .308 to 6.5 CM, 16 to 24 inch barrel uppers. DD, POF and other high end rifles use a lot of proprietary parts.
Yeah i have all kinds of firearms and if you shoot 77 grain OTM's out of an 18" match barrel or other accurate barrel.. you're good out to 800-1,000 yds with 5.56. I'm out in Utah and there are vast expanses and lots of wind... BUT.... i have a lot of AR10's and they're not reliable. I've had firing pins sheer off... and i've had a lot of gassing issues causing reliability issues. I do have a SCAR17 but i can actually reach out more and more accurately with a lot of my AR15's and 77 grain OTM ammunition. Bottom line though... like you said... in the South East... an M4 is good enough for the most part. If i had to pick... i'd probably run around with my BCM 16" middy shooting 77 grain OTM's and an 8x LPVO.... or hell... even my Palmetto M16 with FN CHF barrel. Same optic.
@@ShotOnChristmasthere is definitely something magical about the AR-15 and 77gr OTM combo. I paired a 14.5” super duty upper with an Aero M4E1 lower (swapped furniture, buffer spring, safety, & trigger to my liking) and im getting 0.7 MOA at 100 yds with 77gr SMK OTM hand loads. Perfect 👌
@@sixpacjp I get 0.4" 5 shot groups out of my Noveske SPR which is an 18" 416R SS match barrel. With my BCM BFH and DDM4V11Pro i get about 0.75" 5 shot groups. That's great accuracy. BUT... i have a video on my page of me shooting a random 10 shot string of fire with my Palmetto M16 at 750 yards and that's 2MOA accuracy at best ... and i go 8 for 10 on the silhouette with an 8x LPVO. You can do good work with a 2MOA rifle and i think i do an effective job of showing that in that video. Some people can't afford the primo stuff but you can still get the job done with something like a Palmetto.
Encyclopedia Britanica, nice, grew up with that same set in the house, you have all those year books too. No wonder you're so smart. Love ya man, this was a great treat today, I agree with everything you said with this rifle set up. If I ever buy another one this set up might be it. Thanks Rex. Never stop.
Absolutely bro. Many people get hung up on the whole go to war aspect of a main rifle. Many forget that putting food on the table is a very very big part of it. A platform that will allow you to capitalize on a skill set such as yours is the way to go. Not for everyone but if they ever reach that level of expertise they will relate to this vid more. Level up!
That is the reason I am doing so well building and selling AR 10 uppers in wildcat cartridges and noncommercial chamberings. I am doing all of the WSM magnums in the AR 10 and old cartridges of the deer camps the old 250 Savage and the 257 Roberts in the AR 10 uppers for sale. My AR 10 uppers in 6mm-284 Win is a fast seller for reloaders who want a fast 6mm. I currently have for sale the 358 win in the AR 10 upper in an 18 inch barrel. very soon will be another 300 WSM AR 10 upper for sale. Someone wants their AR for plinking targets then go hunting Big game they can switch over uppers in just minutes.
@@klintonodonnell3318there are plenty of people here on youtube that will tell you about the Waco incident n their connection - I wouldn't give them 1 penny for anything
@@klintonodonnell3318 When you type in "TROY" firearms controversy into Google... the following comes up: "Troy Industries received criticism when its former law enforcement training partnership (Troy Asymmetric) hired Dale Monroe, the partner of former FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi." Horiuchi is the FBI sniper that killed either the wife and mother or the son in the Ruby Ridge incident... hell, maybe even both... i can't remermber... it's been a while.
B4 watching: I focus on caliber utilization. .308 has many projectile designs, and some of the most impressive for the 300AAC were from TROM. If I don't need to snipe Afghan sheep, then this cartridge can serve 90% of my needs. A barrel swap gets me an alternate solution.
If only 1 gun, I would like an 18" barrel custom AR-10 platform in 7mm-08. One and DONE! (Note: alternate caliber choice would be .260 Remington. Both .308 parent case based for SHTF / RWL scenario for handloading, easy to find .308 brass at reasonable barter prices. just my $0.02 cents and imho. lol)
@7mm-08 have fin finding those loads in a shtf or ammo shortage times Just learn .308 ballastics and stack ammo to the celling. 6.5cm and 708 are more expensive and far less common in every situation
@@REDNECKROOTSyou nailed it. I agree 100%. Im building out a 308 bolt action right now. Was gonna go 6.5 creed but decided 308 for the reasons you mentioned and there’s also a huge difference in barrel life in favor of the 308.
As I am on a tight budget, so my rifle combo is a 1905 Swedish Mauser with a SH-4 Gen 2, and a Norinco RPK clone, very heavy receiver and barrel..... IHMO, the Swedish Mauser is a much better battle rifle than commercial 6.5CM rifles. As the max pressure is 46,000 CUP and it is a 24 inch medium heavy barrel, it will out last a modern 6.5CM barrel that can run at nearly 62,000psi. It would be hard to find and expensive to buy a pristine 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser with a pristine and original barrel. It was God's gift to me for only $200.00. It is a 1/2 MOA rifle, bedded, nice trigger etc.
Very nice setup with the 6.5. I just don't like 223/556 because of the wind factor. For me as a defensive weapon I choose a good MOA 7.62 x 39 AR upper that is very light with a 16 " barrel. A nice light weight front focal variable illuminated reticle scope with parallax. I wanted the light weight SWFA Ultra light, but they discontinued them. A Lions Gear bipod. A M2 flip up front sight, and underneath between the magazine well and bipod, a detachable A2 rear mount carry handle which is bullet proof as a back up. Several quick release sling points with an adjustable sling. For night time a DNTOPTICS ThermNight scope. AR handle with storage. I choose this instead of a 300 Blackout. I am not out in the open unless in highly populated areas. And agin this is a defensive weapon. And the Monarch 7.62 x 39 has some good advantages. I did find the AR platform improves the accuracy for the 7.62 x 39 round. For distances and accuracy, I still have my VT11. Any feedback is welcomed.
My favorite upper is a 10.5 x39. Everyone swears that they are unreliable. But mine has been perfect with good mags. Uni mags work good if they fit the receiver. ASC mags have been trash in my experience. Need to try some c products can't ever find em. If you don't intent to pay the extortion fee for a can. X39 ballistics are just about identical to 300 with no disadvantage so long as it's unsupressed. Also short barrels don't cut the velocity with 30cal like it does with 5.56.
@@matthewbeaver5026 Thank you for the feedback. Mine has been very reliable. Thank you about the ballistics too. Also for me a it hit the S#t moment, weight and limited space of supplies, like cleaning equipment. 30 cal for 308 long gun and 7.62 for personal defense with steel core, and one cleaning kit. And the DNT optic can be programed for multiple platforms. I shoot long distance competitions. Many used the 6.5. But during C19 I noticed 6.5 was not on the shelf like 308 or 7.62, 223. I don't reload. Because one can't bring the equipment if Ione has to go to a place of larger similar people. One run what one find in a it hit the fan moment. Just like for long distance multiple non bench rest, I prefer a belt rig, not a chest rig. And 20 round AR pouches work great for my 308 VT11 Savage magazines for easy accessibility. And I am old, so my strategy is either defensive or offensive by distance.
I live in Utah and we have wide open expanses and lots of wind. I shoot lots of different stuff but i'm still rolling with a 16-20" 5.56 set up shooting 77 grain OTM's and an 8-10x LPVO. I feel confident hitting out to 800 plus yards and while the 5.56 isn't going to be devastating at those distances... it's still lethal. In my experience with AR10's in .308 and 6.5CM... they're just not reliable. They're FUN to shoot.. and you really can reach out there but they're just not reliable enough to bet your life on. Now i have a SCAR17 but i can shoot more accurately and at a higher volume of fire and out to greater distances and hit what i'm aiming at with 5.56 shooting 77 grain OTM's. If you're on your own, navigating through the mountains in a SHTF scenario, maybe the best way to go would be a smaller 20" folding stock bolt gun in 6mm CM on your back for scenario's that warrant that and your fighting rifle that i suggested above as your primary. Handgun of choice as final back up solution. I'd take 6mmCM over 6.5CM because barrel life isn't going to matter in a. SHTF scenario and those rounds haul ass. You're getting about 10ft less drop at 1,000 yds with 6mmCM and you can take game with that no problem.
My 16" spr is wearing a 4-14x PA scope rex recommended some years ago. I regularly take it out to 800 to 1000 with 69gr smks or 68 hrn BTHP, it will do it, but not as reliably or with as much authority as a 308. But it sure is a lot lighter.
You need the AR 10 upper I am almost done with in 300 WSM, it will sell for $1700 in a kit with 5.3 once buffer + X power buffer spring and longer buffer tube. Or you can order another AR 10 in any of the WSM magnums or wildcat cartridges like the 6.5-300 WSM. I actually often hunt the Utah coyote bounty program using one of my AR 10 in 6mm - 284 win and another AR 10 in 6.5-284 Norma. Another really slick AR 10 upper I build is in 6.5x51 Jap for the steep tapper case for excellent case extraction on firing. I have a new AR 10 coming up for sale soon in 250 Savage or you can order one in 257 Roberts. Two more AR 10 uppers I offer can be in 25-300 WSM that is a match for the 257Wby or in 7mm WSM. I use the Pac Nor Barreling Stainless super match barrels and uppers range from $1200 to $1700
@@highdesertdrew1844 I can only go about 33% hit ratio at 1,000yds with my SCAR17 and good ammo... while with my Noveske SPR in 5.56 i can hit a milk jug in 2 or 3 shots at that distance. Just saying. Same thing with the DDM4V11Pro. The 77 grain OTM's make all the difference.
The synchronicity of this video is uncanny. I had the realization over the weekend that if I had to do it all over, I’d have built one rifle; a 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 with a 14.5 inch, chrome lined barrel. The point is not to maximize the ballistic capability of 6.5, but rather to have something vastly superior to 5.56, yet small enough to tote around. However, due to my region I was just considering an Arken 1-8 LPVO with a pistol red dot on top.
How many AR10's do you own ? i own multiple. They're not reliable. If you shoot 77 grain OTM's out of a 16-20" AR15, you're still going to be able to take medium game. A small, 20" folding bolt gun on your back for game is even better if you can work that and 10mm side arm for game and bear protection. I'd roll with 6mmCM for the bolt gun as it's a faster round with 10ft less drop at 1,000 yds.
I will soon be retooling to a his and hers AR10s. There was debate between 6.5 Creed and .308 win. (I have both). Daniel Defense does a 18" barrel in 6.5 Creed, and I was hoping for 16". Not a deal breaker... We started using bolt guns in 6.5 Creeds a couple of years ago, and they work well. I used the Hornady 143 gr precision hunter ammo and have had good luck. Only one time have I recovered a bullet that did a weird fish hook bend and did not open. Still killed the deer. I'm not sure why. Other than that, we have been happy.
@@jack3927417 I have bought plenty "as is" AR10's from competent manufacturer's as well as put my own together. Many times the gassing becomes.a problem. The rifles are finicky. Pressures are higher and i've had two firing pins sheer off as well. Manufacturer's can over gas to try to "force" reliability but that may lead to less reliability in the end. The DD is probably pretty reliable but my DDm4V11Pro doesn't run well dirty... how about that DD5 ? You may not always have oil with you when you need it. Some AR15's run great with just a rub off of internal components. I even remember a guy complaining that his PWS Mk216 was having reliability issues because he put HOPPES cleaner on the piston and it gunked it up. (that's a long strong piston system). I'm just wary of AR10's since i've had about 5 and even the best ones had some issues. If you KNOW yours is good to go... run when semi dirty... runs in freezing cold weather.... runs with different ammunitions of varrying strengths just fine.... go for it... who am i to tell you different ? But for me.... in my expereince.... i'm not trusting mine to save my life just yet. Maybe i need a Noveske.... lol
Don’t forget Marty Daniel supported gun controls few years back and due to backlash , back peddled and said he made a mistake. I can’t support him or his company and what they stand for.
@ very true, but more than that, I cannot fathom someone holding a grudge like this. Like, if you hold an opinion, you want others to hold the same opinion, right? It makes zero sense to continue vengeance against someone who has changed their mind to agree with you!
Several years back I built out an ar 10/lr 308 off the aero m5 and the only reason I went with.308 was ammo availability at the time, if I were to do it today I would definitely go with 6.5,
In a SHTF situation I would want a weapon that will be easy to aquire ammo for. The easy calibers are 22LR, 9mm, 45, 357, 223, 7.62×39, 308 and 12 Guage. I would be hard pressed to stray in a SHTF scenario.
I dabbled with this in 2020. Savage msr10 hunter, faxon 16" match gunner 6.5CM, Law folder, PA slx 3-18 308 HUD. Bdc was within .1 to 1000y using hornday 140gr bthp. Balisically identical to a 24" 308 with 175smk. The rifle was just too heavy still for a one gun solution.. mainly to loadout. Coming in at 14.5lbs fully dressed. It didnt make sense for my AO being the Appalachian mtn. Now my go to is a supressed 12.5 5.56. Fully dressed with vortex 5x prism, 12 o-clock mrds, tlr-vir II, sling a 30rnd mag of 855. Its 9.5lbs and lethal from 0-500y daytime and 0-200 under NV on a clear night.
Hey Rex, I bought an old pair of Tenebraex M22b-ARD bino covers off ebay and popped the honeycomb out then cut it up to fit in my sunshade. If your not worried about chopping up the shade you could cut it down "depth" wise also. It makes a nice screw in ARD for any scope that came with a sun shade for $10-$20.
I have a five pound 16" Barrett with Super sniper on it in 6.5CM. Super sniper 10x (wish it were 8X), tally rings, magpull pod, and a magpull simple sling. Basically a go fast machine. Nothing on it is not needed. Would also like a thermal clip on but $. I tuned it and it shoots inside dimes at 100m. it does very well out to about 900m.😁
Nice setup Rex! Got almost the same thing but in 5.56. That milspec color is great, mine Ddm4v7 in fde. I even got the Troy canted iron sights in fde with HK front, DFT turbo, blue force Vickers sling, ssa-e trigger,no scope have the exps with g33 magnifier. That’s my end all of ar15.
If 6maxx becomes popular and more available that what I will switch to as my "do all" right now my do all is still 5.56, but i often go to 6.5 creed. I dig your setup. Thanks for sharing
Perfect world, one rifle to do it all, plenty of ammo availability would probably be something very similar to your exact rifle. TEOTWAKI rifle would be a nice AR 5.56 lower with a few different uppers in a backpack to serve different roles.
I did a similar build but use a side-charge upper so I can build a really good cheek rest. Also, switch to gaffer tape, you will never go back to duct/100mph tape.
Got a savage MSR-10 LR in 6.5 with a cronus 30x although its hefty its accurate and a hammer out to wherever i can see. It pretty much covers everything from big old ohio woodchucks to deer. That kind of accuracy at distance is scary.
"Use enough gun." -Ruark Carried a .223 as "bakkie" gun for 12 years, saw just enough wounded animals to realise the old sages were correct, great assessment and choice!
Rex have a dd5 v4 in 6.5cm rifle set up is almost exactly the same as yours except I’m running a huxworks suppressor, optics I went with a eotech 5-25 with the tremor 3. Rifle is still in vetting I have had it about a year and 500 rounds accuracy has been exceptional, I have had some cold weather reliability issues but think that is a fouling issue from the suppressor. Also I’m in central nd so same conditions you will be testing in.
I would never rely on a barrel burner cartridge like 6.5 CM for serious use, however having it in a Daniel Defense Chrome-lined / Cold Hammer forged barrel wouldn't be so bad...
If I were forced into only one rifle, it would have to be something already in my safe. The jury is still out on caliber selection. The rifle in question would absolutely be one of my 20 inch semiautomatics.
I've had a 6.5cm now for quite awhile and hand load I use to use the Hornady 143eldx they are very accurate but in my opinion they are not a good performer on bigger game like deer so I switch to 140AB's and just use the eldx for target and smaller game..
For me my go to my fav. gun was My Dad's 22. But alas in 2011 at the age of 57 I grew up just a little and moved up to what I call little Pinky (My pink and white AR-15). So now it is one of my top two guns. If I could only have one it would have to be Little Pinky.
Funny how I have zero SOF experience, never served , never shot further than 300 yds. But I decided on basically the same configuration. However I made it two rifles LR 308’ both in 260 Remington, Aero Precision Upper and lowers and hand-guards, one with a BHW 22” Standard profile and a Magpul Moe rifle stock, one 16” with Magpul UBR stock. 22” has a Burris XTR 2. 5-25 x50 and the 16” has a old Nikon proStaff 4.5 18 x40 mill dot. Not set up for ELR but for any sane range’s out to 700 yds it can be dialed in. So it gives something up but 17.1 oz. The 22” has hard 45 deg offset flip up sights. The 16” has a Vortex venom red dot. Both are Viking V tac slings. The 16 with no magazine just at 10lbs , the 22” without magazines is 12.5 lbs I have an olight I can stick on them. With 140’s I get 2,590 out of the 16” which at sea level 70 degrees it is transonic at 1,225 yds. At 1,000 yds, 9.32 mils drop 1.78 mills drift . In the 22” I hand load 140’s at approximately 2,785 fps , at sea level it is transonic at 1,350 yds. With a 200 yd zero it is 7.5 mils drop, 1.62 mil drift with a 10 mph cross wind at 1,000 yds. So it is hard to decide, out east with woods and such shooting way out there is not as practical. So the 16” get the nod. The only thing I would change on the 16” is add another 5 oz and go with the Arken LH 4-16 MIL VPR, Arken does make a great affordable scope I have several Arken 5-25 x 56 scopes. For varmint fun , I load up 100 gr Hornady ELD VT’s. In the 16” it gives you around 3,050 fps. Smoking from a 16” barrel.
I've come to the same conclusion about a decade and a half ago, but after having torn tendons on my shoulders, my semi auto rifles are now too heavy to hold and shoot offhand. So a year ago I got a 20" RUGER SFAR which is much lighter. After doing some tuning and adjustments it's hovering on one MOA with handloads. I decided to stick with a 308 WIN chambering because it's what I got the most of, and it's more ubiquitous. I accepted a reduction of effective range from my 260REM Armalite AR10 of 1200 yards to 800 yards of my 308 RUGER SFAR. Although my 175gr loads can touch 1000 yards.
I had a 16in sfar that went back to ruger 3 times and they refused to replace it ...biggest pos I've ever bought and was stuck with...sold it for next to nothing bc I don't keep stuff that don't work
@Gmny1MOA Yeah, I knew about the 16" problem before buying mine, that's why I got the 20", they were much much less problematic with the standard length gas tube/barrel length. The SFAR was much more affordable than the alternatives that I was willing to throw the dice on what I get and fix any problems myself. So after I got it I immediately started running rounds through it to test reliability and accuracy. It functioned flawlessly, but it was shooting 8 MOA or bigger. After examining it I noticed the gas block was slightly rotated and touching the handguard. After centering the gas block myself with an Allan wrench the groups dropped down to one MOA with my handloads; making the purchase completely worth it for me. Most people don't like fixing problems themselves and that's perfectly understandable, but I do. If there's something I like about a particular arm, I'm willing to work on it myself to make it run and run accurately.
He says it in another comment, but yes they can. For proper eye relief while allowing for the canted back up irons, it had to be done. As long as its a zero degree and doesn't have built in cant for more elevation, it makes no difference.
No issue but the caliber. In a one and done scenario only a military chambering will do regardless of ballistics. You can’t shoot what you can’t acquire.
I’ve been tossing around the idea of ditching my LRB M14 for an LMT 308. The LMT has the modularity going for it, as well as being able to swap between 308 and 6.5CM with a barrel change.
That’s a pretty based pick, dude! If I had to seriously pick just one, it would be similar. Thankfully, I don’t, although I do just have one hunting rifle, and one “tactical” rifle now.
Almost every rifle I have revolves around the same idea...I'd prolly have to change some things around but mine would probably be my sig spear in 308...308 is that perfect round that's always available and can go do work anywhere on any animal...and deer don't typically run 200yrds w no bld trail
Thanks for the tape idea for a non wood stock. I just put together a 6mm cm for fun. For my area of living shooting past 500 is not very realistic so I guess I will not be in the cool kid group. Call my round the rainbow projectile, the 175 match king 308 is my everything girl out of my Howa 1500 18 inch for a bolt, or an M1A if I am feeling a bit more errrgh, errrrgh.
Nice, there is a reason I put my new Zulus with the night vision and ballistics on my Savage 6.5 Creedmoore AR-10 style whatever it is... LOL CARRY ON!!!
If I could only keep one rifle, I would most likely choose my Sig PE90/550, extremely reliable, solid, accurate and plenty of good ammo available. Without a budget limit, I would go with the SG750 in 6.5.
Love you, Rex...but if you have an unlimited source of ammo..6.5 ok. But if you only have one rifle, I assume the shit has hit the fan. So access to ammo is king. Your M4 is the correct choice
Actually building same concept now. But 13.5” in 308. 308 will always be more common then 6.5CM. If SHTF ever happened. Plus 5.56 will have alot of people hunting it down vs not as many grabbing 308. 13.5” is chronographing at 2560 with federal 150gr box ammo. Some hand loads would probably get me to 2625 if I worked at it. Carrying 1000ft lbs energy out to 425yrds with federal. Honestly I can’t shoot good enough to really run past that, nor would you ever really need too?? Nothing that far away is a threat to you unless they can shoot 500yrds; but they’d already have you down by that time anyways so it’d still be pointless. Really built to be a great 0-300/350yrd, GRP rig. Red dot/3x magnifier. With a clip on thermal that can be added if needed to help at night. So far it’s 30.25” OAL and weighs just 14oz more than a 16” 5.56 with same red dot/mag combo with shorter OAL! Hard to beat the extra energy gained for just less then 1lb of weight. If I sacrificed 1.5” of OAL I could change out muzzle brake and drop weight down an extra 4.5oz even. But it honestly shoots great at the 8lbs 9oz that it is now. Good balance between weight and felt recoil. ….anyone want a basic 16” 5.56 by chance, got one I’m selling! Lol
With all the extra scope add ons Arken has(bubble level, throw lever)I really wish they would offer ARD's as well,as all my current scopes & future scopes would have to be outfitted w/one. Maybe you could put an ARD bug in their ear,for them to think about
I'd have a 6.5cm ar10 a long time ago, but i have trouble justifying the price. I put together two bolt actions in 6.5cm for probably less than the price of just the AR10 w no accessories. "Spend some time with those before I drop the big loot," seems to be a rational approach.
Rex...that's a nice piece of kit. Thanks for sharing. Keep us posted on that Aero mount. I'm curious if it can stand up to the extra punishment of the Creedmoor. I think you just sold another Arken scope.
I wonder how it'd group the Hornady light grain varmint rounds. Do you think the .277 Fury would be a viable general purpose cartridge if it becomes popular and available enough?
I will leave some advice over odd balls brand scopes. I was selling my custom AR 10 uppers with Sig Brand scopes them came reports from the buyers of my custom AR 10 uppers the scopes no longer can hold point of aim just from some 500 rounds fired. So, if you know your rifle is accurate you start to see bullets landing all over the target look into the scope often is the problem on budget brand scopes. So, for full kit AR 10 assembled uppers I sell I am now buying the Burris scopes
Here are the links to the EXACT EQUIPMENT I am using on this Daniel Defense DD5V4. This combo of kit works for practically any AR tyope rifle.

I feel like it’s hard to argue against the value per dollar of Primary Arms optics
If you get tiered of the 6.5 NeedMoor then want way bigger I build and sell Highly custom AR 10 uppers in wildcat cartridges and noncommercial chamberings.
So, if you like the 6.5 bullets I build AR 10 uppers in 6.5 -284 Norma and in 6.5-300 WSM
I have an AR 10 upper coming up for sale in 300 WSM
And if you want really Big!
Coming AR 10 uppers are in 7mm WSM /// 6.5x51 jap /// 25 - 300 WSM
I am using Pac Nor Barreling super match stainless barrels.
Great video
Nothing but the blood for me
Rk n roll! Hang in there.
I have enjoyed your channel for years. I’ve learned so much that I didn’t know, I didn’t know, if that’s not too redundant to understand. I just want to thank you for being a beacon of real practical knowledge.

Lol. I was annoyed the whole video even tho it seemed to be correct.
I wish you could see how offended and fragile your ego is to go through such machinations to put down who ever it was who pointed out that is was on backwards according to design intent. we all have growth opportunities. Heed this advice from an older wiser man.
Gotta love u Rex. No matter what the subject - all videos turn into a scope commercial! God bless you - you a marketing genius…

Phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range🤠
I feel old now after reading this
I mounted a scope like that once to clear the backup sights. I posted a review of the scope on RUclips, and so many people commented on how I was an idiot that the algorithm promoted the video.😂 It made it my most popular video!
How does it not clear the rear iron sight? Is there cant built into the scope mount?
I like a traditional AR-10 .308 with a 16 inch barrel and an LPVO. Aero Precision or PSA for parts availability. I can caliber swap from .308 to 6.5 CM, 16 to 24 inch barrel uppers. DD, POF and other high end rifles use a lot of proprietary parts.
Keep up the great content Rex Followed you since the 101 days God bless you and your family!
Dandy set up. Here in the southeast rarely do you get a shot more than a couple hundred yards, so I'll stick to 556.
I wanna build a 6 arc
@@spldrong I do too but i wouldn't use it as my SHTF rifle most likely because of ammo and bolt life of an estimated 6k rounds.
Encyclopedia Britanica, nice, grew up with that same set in the house, you have all those year books too. No wonder you're so smart. Love ya man, this was a great treat today, I agree with everything you said with this rifle set up. If I ever buy another one this set up might be it. Thanks Rex. Never stop.
Agree with you on the 6.5. Like to have redundant scopes and same systems across my rifles as well.
Good choice… I had the DD5V5 in the 20 inch 6.5 Creedmoor
Still haven't forgotten about Troy.
I guess I am petty but I am allowed to be.
Very nice rifle.
Don’t forget about Marty Daniel either.
@@Justin31789 I haven't forgotten about either and i no longer buy either. Even though i have an old Ranger buddy who works for DD.
I'm out of the loop, where should I go to find more info about Troy?
@@klintonodonnell3318there are plenty of people here on youtube that will tell you about the Waco incident n their connection - I wouldn't give them 1 penny for anything
@@klintonodonnell3318 When you type in "TROY" firearms controversy into Google... the following comes up:
"Troy Industries received criticism when its former law enforcement training partnership (Troy Asymmetric) hired Dale Monroe, the partner of former FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi."
Horiuchi is the FBI sniper that killed either the wife and mother or the son in the Ruby Ridge incident... hell, maybe even both... i can't remermber... it's been a while.
B4 watching: I focus on caliber utilization. .308 has many projectile designs, and some of the most impressive for the 300AAC were from TROM. If I don't need to snipe Afghan sheep, then this cartridge can serve 90% of my needs. A barrel swap gets me an alternate solution.
Please turn that scope mount around. You can move that rear off-set iron forward of the mount and it will work just fine.
If only 1 gun, I would like an 18" barrel custom AR-10 platform in 7mm-08. One and DONE!
(Note: alternate caliber choice would be .260 Remington. Both .308 parent case based for SHTF / RWL scenario for handloading, easy to find .308 brass at reasonable barter prices. just my $0.02 cents and imho. lol)
Yup
@7mm-08 have fin finding those loads in a shtf or ammo shortage times
Just learn .308 ballastics and stack ammo to the celling.
It is a 1/2 MOA rifle, bedded, nice trigger etc.
well there you go.
Very nice setup and well thought out. I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs and your opinion further down the road.
Man, the Daniel Defense rifles have been very accurate these days. They have the precision AR game figured out!!!
My go-to rifle is a AR10 Aero Precision 6.5 Creed, 20 inch barrel with a 16x variable mil dot scope. This rifle does it all for me.
77gr on 10x at 800yds is epic for 223win. I run my 9x out to 500yds on a 12 steel with 77gr. Can barely hear the hits. But 300yds is damn fun.
They can be made to be perfectly reliable. Find a competent gunsmith if you’re having issues. Use PMAGs.
Maybe i need a Noveske.... lol
I’ve yet to find a manufacturer that does a 14.5 or 16 inch chrome lined barrel.
I wish POF would make one in this length and caliber.
My Scar 17 chambered in 6.5 CM Schmidt Bender 3-20 x 50 PMII FFP Mrad Ultrashort in a Spuhr qd mount 20 moa cant.
Don't those have reliability issues ? MAC did a video on it some time ago.
Solid run down. Do the offset sights ever get snagged on anything in an annoying way? Or is that an exaggerated issue people tend to regurgitate?
Don’t forget Marty Daniel supported gun controls few years back and due to backlash , back peddled and said he made a mistake. I can’t support him or his company and what they stand for.
Gotta allow somebody to learn and grow. Let's not be cancel culture.
So, he came around to your point of view and now you want to punish him. Good job. I bet you’re amazing at parties.
Yep... all the best stuff is made by faulty humans. Colt, Smith & Wesson, Danielle defense, etc..
@ very true, but more than that, I cannot fathom someone holding a grudge like this. Like, if you hold an opinion, you want others to hold the same opinion, right? It makes zero sense to continue vengeance against someone who has changed their mind to agree with you!
@@calebdonerbut did he sincerely change his heart or did he notice the immense backlash & decreased profits?

Several years back I built out an ar 10/lr 308 off the aero m5 and the only reason I went with.308 was ammo availability at the time, if I were to do it today I would definitely go with 6.5,
It was South Carolina me and my father took that class, Charlie is an awesome guy! Honored to have been a part of his class!
This recce rifle is mountain deadly certified 💯
In a SHTF situation I would want a weapon that will be easy to aquire ammo for. The easy calibers are 22LR, 9mm, 45, 357, 223, 7.62×39, 308 and 12 Guage. I would be hard pressed to stray in a SHTF scenario.
I like it. If i had that kinda distance I would likely go that route. However at under 300 yards max range around my AO, I'll keep with M4.✌️
That's a good looking rig.
Very nice choice.
Great choice. My one rifle is my AR10 custom build in 6.5CM.
Great review
If 6maxx becomes popular and more available that what I will switch to as my "do all" right now my do all is still 5.56, but i often go to 6.5 creed. I dig your setup. Thanks for sharing
Good video, thanks!
"Use enough gun." -Ruark
Carried a .223 as "bakkie" gun for 12 years, saw just enough wounded animals to realise the old sages were correct, great assessment and choice!
The backwards scope mount is the reason why sKamala lost the election 😂
Well Done !
I built my 10 in .308 because of limited visibility in my local terrain...but that DDm4 is a great choice...
LMT CQB MRP 16 in. piston in 5.56/6.8spc. Just swap the barrel, bolt, and magazine. Eotech with magnifier or Razor 1x6 lpvo.
If I were forced into only one rifle, it would have to be something already in my safe. The jury is still out on caliber selection. The rifle in question would absolutely be one of my 20 inch semiautomatics.
Roger that: thank you, Rex. But REEE! The scope mount is “backwards,” REEE!!!!
I've had a 6.5cm now for quite awhile and hand load I use to use the Hornady 143eldx they are very accurate but in my opinion they are not a good performer on bigger game like deer so I switch to 140AB's and just use the eldx for target and smaller game..
The ELD-x is constructed like an SST. Stay off the shoulder.
Love the fact that people don’t understand theres more than one way to do things and the fact that movies actually creates that mindset😅
Thank you 😊
I don’t mean to be “THAT GUY” but is the scope mount backwards? Can it be backwards?
I saw it too.
🤷♂
He says it in another comment, but yes they can. For proper eye relief while allowing for the canted back up irons, it had to be done. As long as its a zero degree and doesn't have built in cant for more elevation, it makes no difference.
Got it. F(x) > Form
Ohhh an arken ad!
Almost every rifle I have revolves around the same idea...I'd prolly have to change some things around but mine would probably be my sig spear in 308...308 is that perfect round that's always available and can go do work anywhere on any animal...and deer don't typically run 200yrds w no bld trail
Rex you the man
mine would be my ar10 in 308 with a burris XTR2 4 to 20 scope. i know 6.5 creedmore has better ballistics but 308 is always available
13.7 in barreled aero precision m5. Carbon fiber rail and arken ep8 1x8 6.5 creedmoor
Ruger 6.8 spc,razor 1-10,AAC suppresor
Scope mount backwards ❓
Please do a long range video on this rifle
Good to see ya still kicking, good stuff...Marry Christmas 👍☕️☕️✌️
Rex...that's a nice piece of kit. Thanks for sharing. Keep us posted on that Aero mount. I'm curious if it can stand up to the extra punishment of the Creedmoor. I think you just sold another Arken scope.
Have you fooled around with the goon tape at all, Rex? Pretty good stuff, although it can be tough to get in colors that aren’t black, sometimes.
I agree, 6.5 for me too.
Not often you see someone say I have this 3G rifle with a 3 hundred buck scope.
Wondering why you put the scope mount on backwards?
Hey it's Mr Lazy Mount!!! LOL.
I'd probably pick a 6arc for the do all roll
Why did you mount that one piece cantilever mount backwards?
I only have one rifle. It’s a 14.5 SOCOM dressed up like a URGI with an ACOG and a rein 3.0
Question why do you have the Aero scope mount backwards?
What are your thoughts on a riflespeed on a SHTF gun? What about adjustable gas in general if no to riflespeed for “duty” grade.
Rex, do you have any experience with LMT rifles?
Limited, but yes.
@@TiborasaurusRex What do you think about the monolithic upper concept?
You have a nice one!!
