Was a professional gunsmith for over 30 years. And I'll just say this. If one is incorrectly trying to install an integral part of a weapon like firing pins, springs and such, sure I'm going correct them. But scope mounts? Who cares? If it works and doesn't interfere with the weapon's operation, go for it. I couldn't care less. And those that call folks names because of innovation should just keep their teeth together.
In theory, a manufacturer could change the picture of the mount on the package to show it "backwards", call it extra clearance and upcharge five bucks for it. They'd make a small fortune. Also, one inch rings work great for mounting flashlights onto rails if you have a flashlight with one inch diameter.

OMG IT WAS "BACKWARDS"! You know what this means????????? It means Rex could still shoot your a$$ from low Earth orbit with a backwards scope mount😆!!!! People are so picky

I've got a folding front sight on backwards, it's the shame of the whole family. The flashlight head and the front sight's base/mounting screw did not get along. Easiest solution for me, was to mount it backwards, vs. buying a new light, moving the light forward or backwards, etc....
Putting the scope mount backwards WILL result in the bullets coming out backwards, however that is offset by the fact the bullet will then accelerate after leaving the barrel, nullifying the effect of flying backwards :)
Rex,Rex,Rex, you could have just turned your rifle around which would point the mount forward! How about that? Hahaha! Oh,you didn’t use a straight edge to make your arrow,it’s crooked. Love it!
As soon as I saw this, I was like I've done this before for the exact same reason. Even the exact same mount, but my OCD saved up for very high two peace rings 😅
I've never been here before,,, but THANK YOU!!! I've run zero cant mounts both ways but mostly backwards to clear my cheapy plastic Magpul buis!!!! I want at least something else to aim with if needed, and those are rather thick on the rail! Love your attitude!!!
I’m currently using a 20 MOA mount BACKWARDS on my Barrett M82A1 to counter the 27 MOA rail. With a zero MOA mount, it was shooting 2.5 feet high at 100 yards
As a structural product design engineer i can unequivocally confirm that it is backwards and it does matter. This is a cantilever base meaning it is designed to overhang the upper. In the structural support design recoil is considered and mounting it backwards is therefore incorrect and suboptimal. It is measurable how much less efficent it is, however that does not mean in a 1 off application such as this that it will yield substantial results. However just because something doesn't confirm itself as wrong immediately does not mean it is not wrong.
Made it to 4:28.... the function of a cantilever mount is to simply shift the foot print of where the mount makes contact, forwards, backwards IT DOESNT MATTER! Unless there is a +moa then obviously it faces a specific direction. Im with Rex, i use them in both directions on several of my rifles because the intended rail space and footprint dictates where the mount will be, andnif that footprint doesnt work, flip it around.
I love how the mount lines up perfectly with the back of the barrel shroud. Those that would "complain" about this probably shouldn't own firearms IMO... Looks Great!!

lol…I saw this coming from the second I saw that rifle. I literally spoke out load and said: “you have that mount backwards!” I wondered how many peeps would say this. Great explanation! I grabbed another Arken on BlackFriday and still used your code. Thanks for all you do bro!
When scope mount manufacturers said the offset is for eye relief, I was confused a bit because the offset mostly takes away rear iron sight real-estate, and the offset didn't even seem needed. Maybe it all depends on which rifle you have and what scope you're using, but I'd say mkst 1-4, 1-6, 1-8 lpvos don't need an offset.
I love those scope aero precision mounts. They’ve a nice short spacing between the rings. It allowed me to put a 12X on my M240 belt fed so I can hold 2 MOA at 600.
If it works for you, it works. As a matter of fact BEFORE they made canted vertical foregrips, I heated up the verticals to angle 30 degrees left because of a military related wrist break with a internal fixation, I simply cannot vertical my hand due to it.
I believe the reason for using a cantilever scope mount on an AR style rifle is to allow the mount to sit fully upon the upper receiver and not run out onto the hand guard which is not considered as stable and could cause problems retaining a zero. In that respect the correct direction would be what you normally see.
I'm 5'5". I've had to use a couple of 0 MOA scope mounts in reverse because the scope's Eye Relief was to short. I also preferred the tightening lugs to be opposite the ejection port. I now avoid scopes with less than 3.5 inches of Eye Relief at maximum magnification. 3.7" to 4.0" of Eye Relief is preferred.
Besides fixing the scope mount to the “correct” orientation, you should probably also double check that you have the correct winter air in your tires as well!
Good video, I mount the scope mount to fit my eye relief and scope knob locations. But I like the scope mount to extend onto the picatiny rail of the handguard a little. I like QD mounts and offset irons too.
I like your ways Rex. Good video and practical explanation. Leave it as you have it. If it serves your purpose and delivers the desired results that’s what matters. There always has to be one who finds issue against another out of envy.
Dudes like this are trying to say that they know better and are smarter and therefore superior to you. I get the same thing using SFP scopes. Emotional men say snipers only use FFP scopes therefore they must be the best for every application.
Not sure what you are talking about!!! OF coerce if the rings or mount is backwards the rounds are going to come out backwards. Just like if you mount the scope backwards the rounds will come out the charging handle. Don't you know how a gun works. But if you use the iron sights, not plastic sights the rounds will come out the open end of the barrel going forward. Laughing so so hard. Man Mount it the way you want, the way you shoot, and pay no never mind to the comments. People hated me for painting my AR pink and white. I love it and I only have to please me.

I believe the reason for using a cantilever scope mount on an AR style rifle is to allow the mount to sit fully upon the upper receiver and not run out onto the hand guard which is not considered as stable and could cause problems retaining a zero. In that respect the correct direction would be what you normally see.
That makes a lot of sense.
My friend Charlie Melton was a SEAL sniper and he used a 2nd Focal Plane NF optic very effectively in Ramadi when he relieved Chris Kyle.
@@TiborasaurusRex thanks for letting the public know. Respect to you and your brave friend.
So glad you put this video up. I have did the same for years. And got 😂 out. You make things work thanks Rex.
Did you take down your video about a pending ammo shortage? If not what's is called or the cotton oil or whatever precursor that is used to make powder? Thanks
The backwards scope mount is the reason why sKamala lost the election 😂
Well Done !
