Nice to see a video of someone who isn’t using pressure pot / vacuum ! Really puts me off having a go with resin / silicone as im just worried it’ll look trash with no step to de-gas the liquid
Helpful video! Learned a couple tricks i didn’t know before. 👍🏼 However can I suggest wiping the camera lens w a lens wipe/clean part of your shirt before you shoot. Ive just made it a constant habit to ALWAYS clean my lens before taking a pic/vid that it’s just 2nd nature now. It would have been nice to see this without the finger smudged/hazy overlay. Blurred the small details for me and made it hard to see things clearly but maybe im the only one who noticed 🤷🏻♀️
Lol. Thank you for watching it. I made this video on my shitty android phone actually. Ive definitely got better at the video process but this one was when i first started filming. Thank you for the suggestion on this. Greatly appreciated actually. I plan to do more video in the future.
Dude badass vintage TMNT styles Slash! Also please do a video on the magnet technique you mentioned. I was literally just think about how to do that with my figures.
@@flanagancreations1673 Thank you! Your videos are really great and informative and straight to the point btw. Looking forward to the next one whenever you have the time to make one
Hi! Do you have any tips about how to cast doll shoes (like a fully enclosed high heel barbie shoe)? Wracking my brain about how to cast them as they have an inner cavity... much appreciated if you can help 🙏🙏🙏
Really enjoyed the tutorial, however my question would be would this work with other materials like maybe a plastic topper wear or a paper cup or a material that is able to hold its shape/ mold of what you're doing like in this video? another example would be you removing the bottom base of the Legos and removing the moldable putty underneath how would that apply with the things I mentioned
Hey great video, exactly what I was looking for. I have a question though I hope you can help with, maybe do a video on? Using these 2 part molds, how would I go about putting "things" inside to cast in resin, like for example I used this two part mold to make a cup, but I wanted my cup to have letter beads for spelling out a name/dried flowers/crystals etc in it would I just shove them in the spout hole and hope for the best or is there a method to do this that you know of you can share with us? Thank you!
Connecting air vents to each other, or to a pour spout, is generally a bad idea. If one fills before all the air escapes the other, then it's trapped. If you have a base, connect the vents there. If not, just feed them directly upwards to the top of the mold. Notice how one of your vents didn't fill all the way. That's because air was being pushed upwards into an already filled spout (your handle) and it had nowhere to go. It worked out for this cast, but it is a hugely unnecessary risk when you can avoid it completely, easily, by not connecting vents/spouts the way you did. Others may not be so lucky. This is something people attempting to mold and cast for the first time, or are still inexperienced, should know.
Thanks for the tutorial!! I am wanting to try to make a straw topper mold for my custom tumblers. Any pointers on how to get the hole part that the straw would go through? TYIA! :)

Hello, my new discovery of your youtube channel. the best i've been looking for :) Great contents and detailed explanations very nice thanx a lot! I am new to this customizing projects and want to try it. Can I ask a few questions. How long does the resin dry? At what stage is the pressure pot used? In this video, the ax's handle looks a bit soft. Is it necessary to apply a separate process to make resin hardness like stone?
Great questions. This resin is a 15 minute cure but they make all different cure times so you can find something that works for you if you need longer to stir and pour. I use the pressure pot right after i pour the resin so it can push all bubbles out of the cast. But you can also use a pressure pot when making molds to remove bubbles from the silicone while it cures. And last the handle is soft because i took it out of the mold at exactly 15 minutes it will fully harden in about a hour but not tacky to the touch after 15. Thanks for commenting, let me know if you have other questions.
@@flanagancreations1673 Thank you very much for your answers. Now I understood it in more detail. one last question. I will ask about the pigment you mixed with resin. I use Vallejo's pigments while my kitbashing models. Is it the same pigment you use?
I tried this for the first time. I used original Sculpey. It stuck to the Lego base plate and the Mold Star 15 Slow. It's such a mess I didn't make the second half of the mold.
using lego to contain the silicone was a pretty clever idea, never would have thought have that.
It’s super effective and can control the shape easily

Awesome. Glad you found it helpful.

Excellent tutorial! Going to try substituting the extremely expensive moldstar for some other materials
Dude, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I'm ready to attempt to make myself some custom Scare Glows.
Forsure, and if you questions ask away. Trying to produce more videos too

Will totally do a magnet video. Slash was definitely a fun sculpt, hate that they didnt continue the giant line so i took it into my own hands lol.
This was very helpful, thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful. Just trying to put out what i wished i knew when i started.
Very informative video. Can you tell us why you had to spray mold release again to the silicone molds before casting? Thanks!
It helps the mold last longer. The cast comes out easier

Watch the video on my channel called xray. I put a skeleton in a mold. Its a one part in that video but the idea is the same

how was it the same silicone from the first layer? how did you keep that from curing?
Two different batches

I would just drill a hole. Buy a drill bit the exact size of the straw.

Did you use mold release between layers?
@@flanagancreations1673 I did, but apparently it wasn't for silicone...
@@supermanscott You definitely make a split mold and open in with a razor blade.

Thanks for this.. what kind of clay did you use?
Any thing sulfur free works.
