Really happy to see you checked this one out. Its their first, of three, Grammy wins. All three were won in their earlier years. I think its logical to start from the earlier years so that you get to know the original members, see where they started and how they got where they are today. PTX won the season 3 of the tv singing competition the sing off which was the season before Home Free. The original basso profundo Avi Kaplan (pronounced Aahh Vee/guy with the beard) was featured in a Home Free video (Ring of Fire) and they know each other very well. Avi is my favorite. His range is crazy. He also studied classical and majored in opera. I always hear his warm lows and he has an amazing emotional tone in the higher baritone range. He also helps Kevin (beat boxer) with sounds such as overtones and whistles. The trio, Scott Hoying (the blonde baritone), Kirsten Maldonado(mezzo soprano) and Mitch Grassi (counter tenor) grew up together in Texas. Scott wanted to compete in the sing off and right before the competition they found Avi (through reputation and friend of a friend) then Kevin Olusola (beatboxer) from a you tube video. Kevin was about ready to do pre med at Yale. The video was Kevin playing the cello and beat boxing at the same time. He coined this as "cello boxing". Avi left the band in mid-late 2017 due to family illness and personal reasons. He left the band and his pals on good terms and even helped them find his replacement Matt Sallee. Avi now has a great solo career. All these members are exceptional and they bring a cappella to an entirely different level. They are magical. The PTX fans, Pentaholics, are the best. They will support you on your journey. I would suggest watching and reacting to covers such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Say Something and Can't Hold Us. They've also great originals such as Love Again and Run to you(both written by Avi and Kevin) and many more. Their second Grammy win was Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy its amazing too and the third win was a colab with Dolly Pardon of Jolene. Sorry this is so wordy but I hope its helpful. Thank you for your reaction. Looking forward to watching many more PTX reactions. ;)
Avi Kaplan (the bass) collaborated with Home Free in “Ring of Fire.” Definitely worth a listen if you haven’t already. Their original “Love Again” has this club vibe, and their video to “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” (yes, really!) is also outstanding. They have so many great songs, and the Pentaholics will definitely steer you in the right path. Great reaction. Daft Punk medley is one of my favourites. Avi’s solo work is also fabulous, and “Change on the Rise” should probably be your first sampling of his
Well, not quite. The $400 budget was for supplies on the shoot, including the contact lenses and the makeup. That didn't include the actual videography and editing costs by FifGen films. It was still a shoestring budget, but it was more than $400. The exact cost for the production has never been made public.

Thanks for an enjoyable reaction! This was a Grammy winner for Pentatonix. Ben Bram and Ed Boyer are major influences in PTX videos, and the PTX members are heavily involved in the arrangements also.
Change On The Rise is not Avi's first solo work. You need to go back to his EP released under Avriel and The Sequoias in 2017, including Hey Ya, Quarter Past Four, and several other tracks, some of which he wrote. Change On The Rise is from his second EP I'll Get By, mostly original tracks. Both EPs are excellent and can't wait for his third one to drop.

To answer your question if they've performed with Home Free, only Avi to my knowledge had a guest appearance on their video of Ring of Fire. Though theyve been together much longer, Home Free also won their season of the Sing Off in 2013 and competed against Voice Play.
Actually, Avi also "appeared" in Home Free's Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget. He doesn't sing in that video, but does "appear" three separate times. 1. the obvious photo bomb. 2. he sets the champagne glass on the table. and 3. he is sitting on the mechanical bull above Tim's shoulder at the end.
They filmed and produced this in Avi annd Kevins Closet and Kitchen for $400 and won their first Grammy for it they write and produce all their videos themselves and all accapella no instruments but kevin will bring out his Cello on a few songs and beat box too
People already spoke about their rangers but I did not hear anyone mention this Fact about avi. He is a basso profundo Which is the lowest of the low in range. He has blown out speakers. If you like this particular setup I recommend Love again wenches in original. I'm not sure what all you've done of them but hallelujah, amazing grace, imagine are all really good Videos to cut your Keep on. In imagine the harmonies are out of this world and you will see what they mean when they talk about the wall of sound. Mary did you know also has the harmonies. Avii left the group in 2017 for personal reasons, on good terms and helped the find his replacement Matt Sallee, check out change on the rise.
The bass singer in this video, Avi, has an insanely low range (he left in 2017). He has been known to break speakers at concerts. Once you've gotten more familiar with the group, you should watch Aha live at the Star Vista. It is considered one PTX's best live performances. Mitch was on his A game and popped off and Avi sings so low you can hear the speakers breaking.
I’m just wondering how they do this live. This obviously required a lot mixing and production. I read below where this was made in their home. I wouldn’t mind living next door if that’s true.
There's a video of them doing this live as a sort of backstage private performance, and despite the fact that they don't even have mics (so you lose some of the bass and beatboxing) it sounds *remarkably* like this version.
I have Sub'd I am here for PTX. I am sharing this on Facebook Group Pentaholics (yes that is what we the fab club, call ourselves). I think you should do Love Again it is one of their originals and is filmed/makeup in a similar vane. Also, if you really want to get to know PTX and their origin story, watch (and React) to their performances on the Sing Off Season 3, that is where the got their start as a group. If you do react to these, please also react to the judges comments. YOU WILL LOVE IT. Also, I beleive Home Free won season 4 of the Sing Off, and there was one episodes where PTX came on to mentor them.
It's not really better or worse than the original. That's not the idea. It is a celebration of their appreciation of Daft Punk's work. So they made a more "singing" style medley of 7 or so Daft Punk songs. Daft Punk's work is quite a bit more electronic and also the songs would be longer with much slower build-up to support dance clubs where people want to get in a groove and keep dancing. This is more of a mad cliff notes summary blitz compilation. That is not a put down at all. It is wonderful. It has also been described as a creative DJ mix of Daft Punk songs, then sung by Pentatonix. The technical composition work is amazing to match or transition the keys and tempos. So they won a Grammy for the composition itself. Pentatonix and Home Free do know each other. They both won the Sing Off, but on different years. There are YT videos of them interacting at the Sing Off where I believe Pentatonix were the returning champions. They've done some cross training with voice techniques to help advance each other's development (harmonic overtones, bass subharmonics and such). Avi guested with them on their Ring Of Fire, which most reviewers comment as being too short - that's a good sign.
Avi and Tim Foust became close friends after that encounter on The Sing Off, which led to Avi's guest appearance on Ring of Fire and why Avi makes non-singing cameo appearances in several Home Free videos. Avi and Tim now both live in the Nashville area as well.
If you want to continue to react to Pentatonix (PTX), check out the video "The Beginners Guide to Pentatonix". It will fill you in on their history, who they are, and what they are about.
Avi's range as a Bass gets lower with age. The last I saw was C1-Eb5. I have heard thag the C1 was debated but definitely D1. Here is a link to his vocal range check out that C1 for yourself. ruclips.net/video/xAT73Ctld9o/видео.html
Avi was still several years away from leaving Pentatonix when he recorded with Home Free. He has not performed with them again since leaving the group, but still remains good friends with Tim Foust.
I don't know why so many people are requesting that you react to the Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix video. The video includes clips from all of the videos you will be potentially reacting to on this channel. In my opinion, that video completely spoils reactors on PTX.
I think it's better to react to one song at a time and learn the history as people comment on your videos. There are always people happy to tell the story. You don't need it all to be condensed into a 15 minute video.

Once you've gotten more familiar with the group, you should watch Aha live at the Star Vista. It is considered one PTX's best live performances. Mitch was on his A game and popped off and Avi sings so low you can hear the speakers breaking.
It’s a bit sad that Daft Punk split up. My favorite is their Discovery album. 😊
Yeah, I was sorry to hear about that, especially after being together for so long.
I would love to react to bohemian rhapsody, mad world, sing (original for there fans),imagine and love again. Thank you I love your work.
Try their original "Love Again" - another great club tune.
For a really good dance club song, PTX did an original song called Love Again.
No, not post production tricks, see their Hollywood Bowl performance last November, it sounds exactly like this
The original can’t touch this. Kristen, Scott and Mitch went to High School together at Arlington-Martin High School in Arlington, Texas.
Try with original song Pentatonix(PTX for short) "Love Again" 🤯
Kevin, the beatboxer, couldn't join the others with the contacts, they irritated his eyes so the cool glasses became his look instead.
Come along and Papaoutai are bangers also
I have Sub'd I am here for PTX.
Here is a link to his vocal range check out that C1 for yourself. ruclips.net/video/xAT73Ctld9o/видео.html
hello , loved your reaction .... have u seen the Pentatonix - Can´t hold us ?? also very interesting =)
First Grammy
Avi has done some songs with Home Free after he left.
He is base
Avi was still several years away from leaving Pentatonix when he recorded with Home Free. He has not performed with them again since leaving the group, but still remains good friends with Tim Foust.
Please watch Beginners Guide to Pentatonix.
You will learn everything about the group.
Better!!!
We definitely don't do spoilers around here! I appreciate the heads up!
It's far better than the original. The original sounds a little tone-deaf compared with this 😀
the video was recorded in a small closet...it's true
You lost the beard. That's tragic. ;-)
PTX is better than the original.
