Thanks! I always played with Autofire, I would get mad otherwise. Tried without, no fun anymore. I agree with the jumps, these are a weak point and I hesistated to publish because of that. Usually Im better but the recording made me nervous. And yes you are right, dying on purpose should gain a better time. The last wheel by the way was emergency insurance for lvl 11-12. I considered using them as time savers but I would have gained little time whilst becoming defenseless.
Impressive, mate. well, every time I`m playing a Turrican-Game I`m just searching each and every corner to grab all diamonds, lifes and stuff like that. Never thought to finish it in 30 mins. 80
I loved this game on the Commodore 64 and thought I was so good at it (once finished with 59 extra lives) but watching videos of it now I realise it was probably the easiest game ever on the C64... but so great, lots of fond memories :)
The final boss is called Morgul, not The Machine, who only appears from the sequel onwards. Morgul seemed a more interesting antagonist to be honest with the intriguing 'genetic engineering' storyline and multiple head appearance. The Machine, at least in T2, was just a big robot that looked nothing like the figure in the intro sequence.
Pretty nice for tool-free speedrun, even though autofire was used. Some jumps on this game are quite annoying, easy to hit ceiling and manouvering to next platform on first attempt can be difficult. I think dying In this game on purpose would give speed advantage with replenished stock of wheels, but you didn't even use the last wheel. Otherwise, quite solid looking speedrun strategy. Well done! :)
Very impressive! :) But one question: Your autofire seems to be much faster then every autofire I have ever seen before in Turrican. Is it played on an original AMIGA or in an emulation? And if you've used an original AMIGA, which model (A500, A1200, RAM, CPU, Kickstart version)? And last but not least: Which Joystick do you use? My personal favourite one is the "QuickShot II Plus" (and I have around 7 different Joysticks including the classic Competition Pro of course). But the autofire speed is somehow MUCH faster than on every Joystick I've ever used.
This is played in WinUAE 0.8.17 with keyboard, so this is WinUAE Autofire. After your comment, I vaguely remember that realisation of yours too, that Autofire in WinUAE seemed very fast. Im not sure. But on the other hand, I did not notice any gain in gameplay from that. It feeled identical to Amiga. So I tend to say that difference is irrelevant. Im curious to compare on a real Amiga. I also remember back then on Amiga some friends achieving very fast Autofire-rates with selfmade Hardware mods in their Joysticks with adjustable trigger rates. So really fast Autofire speed is possible with real Amiga as well, and it was more of a convention in the Joystick industry to limit it.
Ok, got it. :) Can tell you, I've played Turrican 1 and 2 a lot on an original A500 and A1200 with 030/50 the last 3 or 4 weeks (hey, it was still winter time here in Germany, haha) and also showed my girlfriend this classic AMIGA game (she likes it a lot). Have also an external hardware (connected between the Joystick and the AMIGA) with adjustable trigger rates for autofire - it's never that fast like in your UAE emulation. ;) As an example: In the first level you have these flying dragons hiding behind the small walls near the waterfalls - with "normal autofire" it's hard to kill them, normally it's easier and faster if you hold fire and use the laser to kill them. In your gameplay they are dead after 1 or 2 seconds and this is impossible with normal autofire on an original AMIGA. I like your gameplay a lot and it's really impressive how brave you are fighting your way ... but on an original AMIGA with some of the enemies you would get much bigger problems. If you like to proof it, you can get an original A500 for around 50,- € at the bay and try it on the original hardware (there are some nice solutions available to connect these machines to HDMI/VGA and also use CF-Cards as harddisks). But you could also buy an old TV (a Sony Trinitron for example costs around 20,- €) and connect the AMIGA via a Scart-AV cable. The most complicated part is to get Joysticks in good condition/health, normally you have to buy 3 or 4 to build your own nearly new perfect one.
Im not sure about the point you want to make. If you believe the emulator enables the playstyle, then I would disagree. I played T1 & 2 since release for endless times, for much too long. So, I can say you are absolutely able to do the same playstyle, running through the game, on original hardware. Due to slower Autofire you will statistically get hit a bit more often, but you are still able to run and instakill through it. You just have to play it often and at a point it does becomes easy. Also, if you compare Turrican it with Japan Shooters or even with Z-Out, it is really quite easy. I also would bet that the run could be done substancially faster on original Amiga as it is not too much optimized. But on the other hand, yes, after your remarks, I vaguely remember the initial surprise when I first saw the Autofire in WinUAE. Out of curiosity, how did you came to Amiga and these games? Did you use it back then? Would be nice to see some vids from you as well :) I still have my original A2000 here around, but without battery as I removed it 11 years ago in order to preserve the motherboard from corroding away. I dont have time for rebuilding it... These games and the early 90's... this was really the golden days of the Amiga, and this is really my favorite game from this time.
It depends a bit on his movements, and how quick you are able to finish him off, and this in turn depends on the state of your bonus weapons. I you really want to avoid all damage, you need to do as much and fast counterdamage as possible, turn into gyro at the appropriate time and wait into this form until you feel safe to finish him off. The boss takes some training, but it should not be too hard. No damage without gyro is also possible. Hit him right away with smart bombs, and just finish him off with the directional beam. Occasionally he doesnt open his jaw, if I remember right. To be fair, its quite a hard boss at the start. If your weapon system is not upgraded at all he becomes pretty much impossible.
I would agree with you there, with it's catchy final boss theme, better final world theme, and stage 3 blows T2's stage 3, I also think the title and ending sounds better too, but honestly I think T1 and T3 might have the better soundtrack compared to T2.
@@ChristianMiersch on most other ports of this game autofire was not possible. Even for the amiga, not every joystick had autofire, only the more expensive ones. As far as "what's intended" goes, it's hard for me to imagine killing the 2-3 boss with just 4 grenades and the laser primary was intended. The boss killer weapon with stable dps is the controllable lightning beam thingy.
I dont get your point Im afraid. Where I grew up, we all played it like that. I would get mad otherwise, no fun anymore. Kudos to the people taking pride playing without it, but at the same time I dont like being berated about my playstyle. Hot topic for teens back then, I just consider it "a bit" outdated by now.
@@ChristianMiersch I agree. My parents paid for my Amiga joysticks so I never got anything fancy, but they always had an auto-fire switch. All 3 Turrican games are lesson on how the Amiga could keep on delivering the goods over the years.

For me it is one of the best videogame music ever. The Soundtrack from Turrican 2 is even better than T1.

Yes, Turrican still uses tracks 80 and 81 on the disk. 79 tracks are normal.
