    Gareth its said that God loves a trier, well so do we😊 For a first attempt you did well. As a retired chef I'll offer just one or two tips for the next time😊 Always have some flour handy to dust your hands when touching the pastry AND the sausage meat.If using the same sausage meat,when you open the packet, turn the S.M out.And upside down.Marks on the under side great guide to follow and cut into 6 pieces. Don't cut the pastry, just unroll.Dust both the pastry & your work top lightly with flour. Roll the sausage meat with floured hands, until it's the length of the short side of pastry. Place it on the pastry, about a quarter inch ( I'm old school😅) in from the edge.Egg wash to the main part ,then roll,using the edge until it covers the sausage, press down on the egg washed side. Then cut along the edge to separate from the rest of the pastry. Repeat until you have 6 large sausage rolls, These can be cut in half 😊 egg washed then baked to perfection 😊 Again mate a belting good video, and take it from an old professional, you did very well ❤😊 See you on the next one Cheers Allan&Family

    My wife makes her own sausage rolls using the exact same ingredients from Tesco except she mashes up the sausage meat and grates in some apple, the resulting sausage rolls are absolutely gorgeous😋👍

    Just poured my second glass of wine! To heck with tea! That being said I am just going to take some puff pastry out of freezer and some mild Italian sausages and make some rolls! I’m gluten and lactose free intolerant but I do enjoy watching and listening to you! I’m a 77 yr old ex pat from Lincolnshire and you make me feel so at home!🇨🇦💕

    Nothing better than making your own pies, pasties and sausage rolls, so much better straight out of the oven and the lovely aroma that fills the kitchen. Biscuits/cookies are the same - makes your house smell like a good old fashioned home. Lovely to see.

    My old mum used to make them with Cumberland sausage meat from the butchers and her own pastry oh how I miss them I'm a lifelong sausaholic Gaz sausage sandwich Saturday tomorrow yum😅😅

      Hope they use the All Butter versions as why ruin it with ultra processed toxic marg in the pastry which most brands are unfortunately. Hard to find all butter now as 'it's all about the money money money"

      Most likely a cheap filler - meat is more expensive so it’s probably more profitable to fill it out with fibres and other fillers

    I make steak bakes using puff pastry cut into squares and add tinned stewed steak pop a square lid on and crimp edges with a fork score top with knife and brush with egg wash when pastry is golden their done very tasty 😀

    What you should've done is made one big one length ways, slice it into quarters once its rolled and pinch the ends together to seal. Learning curve! I've made them before but added some caramalised onion (my version of flare). Theyre lush!

    It doesn't matter if you are only assembling, using pre-made pastry and filling. The end result is always going to be better and cheaper than buying overpriced pre-made product. Plus you can choose components and ensure that, for example, the filling isn't rubbish. It is also fun watching you do it, so yes please do more. Other suggestions to try are pizza, fruit pies, chicken and bacon pie, kedgeree, heck even try a making curry using a bottled sauce, or if you want to a small extra challenge, a pre-mix spice pack. Biscuits and cakes are also good fun - so here's to the next project!

    well done, nice one. I jazz mine up with a handful of bread crumbs a teaspoon of mustard, grated nutmeg, one fried onion, sage and some dark beer -you should try it next time

    Hi Gareth, My wife is a qualified cook and was cringing watching your attempt. She has a secret recipe that has been passed down by her family. She has updated it and does use shop bought pastry. She suggests that if you place the sausage meat longways in two rows, it is easier to fold over the pastry. You then can cut them to the desired length. She says that you did very well for a first try. She added it was better than I could have done . We both love your videos and like the way you do something different every now and again. Well done mate.

    Everything in life gets easier, the more you do it. My Saturday job as a child working in the Marina café which was close to the promenade in Blackpool. Home cooking on a grand scale, I haven't forgotten the morning when the boss said, "First thing this morning we are making 1000 sausage rolls.

    You're not cheating. As I've said before I work for one of the largest commercial food distribution companies and we sell a huge amount of pre made puff pastry to the professional restaurant trade. They're not nice to pick, the biggest boxes weight 20Kg and when you get a big chain ordering 20 of the buggers you get knackered out picking them.

    Try some Chilli flakes \ powder in the mix next time its lovely, if your doing requests, how about a nice Cornish pasty next, a proper sized one fit for a Tin Miner 👍

    Love making my own sausage rolls, skin some linolnshire (like the sage and other herbs) with good pork sausages with ready roll puff pastry. So good hot out of the oven. Looking forward to more simple recipes for everyone.

    I was shouting "stretch the meat to the end of the pastry, Gareth! 😄 But you did really well - I've been making sausage rolls for years, and they still come out a bit different every time! I liked the "open" sausage roll - could be a thing! Cheers, Gareth, I'd have eaten them!

    Next time you want to cut pastry into four, cut it in half, and then cut those halves into half again. Much simpler, and far more accurate!

    Boil 3 or 4 lots with half a grated onion and boil until soft,mix in tin corned beef,wrap in puff pastry and bake 180 for 30 mins. Corned beef pasty. Another project? Thank you for your videos Gareth.xx

    Good for you. Nothing like some home made sausage rolls. I always use shop bought pastry, tastes fine. They looked very tasty, I have a special recipe but these days can’t be bothered I’m too old.

    I bought the same pastry to make cheese n onion rolls so this gives me an idea how they might turn out. I'm sure I'll be just as ham fisted as you were but they do look very nice, well done 😀🙌

    That looks great!!! I use Sainsburys chilled puff pastry, with my local butchers sausage meat (I usually chuck a bit of garlic in mine too). Or you can buy your fav sausage but then take the skins off. I make two long sausages in the length then cut them in three. Then, as you did, brush egg wash on and I sprinkle on a teeny bit of salt on the top. Perfic. Enjoy !!!!!! 😁👍

    As a chef many years ago, three of us were tasked with a buffet for 100 people. Two of us were to knock together 400 sausage rolls. I had all the minced pork, onions, herbs, etc, ready to fill the pastry and shape it, etc. I looked over, and the other chef had made loads. WTF? How's he done that? He was simply wrapping the pastry around actual sausages. No one noticed at the buffet. Genius LOL. 😂 there is nothing wrong with your sausage rolls. At home mine are often overfilled and open. They still work and taste fab.

    I love making sausage rolls and yours look spot on. Cheese and onion rolls are good too, just cheese, onion and breadcrumbs to hold it together.

    I always use frozen ready made pastry it makes it all easier I get my sausage meat from the butcher and I mash it up with diced onion and dried sage well done they look alright
