      I am not sure everyone would agree but it's the way I have taught myself and seems the most easiest way (if there is such a thing)!!!!! Been at it years now.

    I've been calling the Fats lick a broken arpeggio. If you take the first note down an octave, the first 4 notes form a plain old arpeggio. Then add the additional note down following the broken arpeggio.
    You can change the lick so the last note is the start of another broken arpeggio and keep following it down as long as you like.

      @@Beginnerjazzlessons the really cool thing i like about this lick is that you can start it from any chord tone (1,3,5,b7). you can also string a bunch of them together - make the starting note of the current lick the ending note of the previous lick. thats what i really find compelling in any lick is if it sounds good and has these qualities.
