Hi Darren! thanks for this awesome lesson. I was wondering if I can get the materials for this video in Bass pitch? Thank you!
These aren’t available as yet but if you look through the other videos you will find one called ‘Bebop lines the easy way’. The resources are available for that one.
bravo! from japan
Thanks 🙏
Great Solo, thanks from Germany
Thank you too!
Fantastic. Thanks again super helpful. 😊
Happy to help!
6:35 noice
So nice to hear Clark’s influence in your approach!
Thank you. I live Clark!!
Excellent! Thank you so much!
You're very welcome! Hope it helps
wow, cool, I just discovered this standard a few weeks ago. ❤
Hope you enjoy it!
GREAT JOB!
Thank you
Lovely simplicity - played with feeling and taste. A marvelous teaching example that stands on its own!
Excellent content! When you apply a rhythm (I got rhythm for example), you still think on landing a chord tone on the DB1 (downbeat1) and DB3, as Hal Garper says? As the rhythm may vary, the DB1 or DB3 could not be available. This could be named ADVANCE FORWARD MOTION, but the idea remeans the same right? DB1 and DB3 eventually , will be the release beats right ? So syncopation should not affect that politic. Syncopation creates interest and looks for resolution, but going from the chord tones half notes in 1 and 3 to the 8ths with syncopation… the idea it’s the same right? I am sorry for the length of the question,
Not sure what the question is???
Maybe the exact DB1 and DB3 may not be available when applying a syncopated rhythm. How do you think about it, regarding placing the chordtones in Beats 1 and 3?
You should just have a "buy me a coffee" no strings attached, just a donation type deal
I want to learn your jazz lessons on alto saxophone. It's so relatable to me that I'm going through them in order from the basics. Thank you.
Glad it's helpful
what a great collection ❤ So many styles and endless vocabulary ❤
Hope it helps, thanks for your nice comment.D.
I wish all the professional jazz players would take this as an example of how to play beautiful music instead of showing of their shredding skills
I just hope it helps you in some small way. Thanks for your positive com ment. D.
very helpful. thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great
🕺👍🏻🎺
Once again Darren, you've laid it out in a way that's very approachable. How about some stuff on minor 2 5 1's.l
ruclips.net/video/5LRJc-K-Z8A/видео.html
This is fantastic! Really helps me understand how to approach this part of my practice :) Those "chord" sounds are terrible though... I can't hear your melodies at all! They completely overshadow all your hard work :(
Glad it was helpful!
your trumpet skills are spot on my friend.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for checking it out.
Excellent my friend 👏
Thank you
Please comment on what jazz improv topic you want me to cover next
Thanks a lot I’m going to practice right now and give them a try! Great help.😊
Good stuff! I’ve seen a few recommend this way to practice and it makes sense. At the end of the day Jazz trumpet players aspire to play tunes and changes, no more and no less so why would we get so far away from tune based learning in our practice? Playing chord tones can help range, flexibility, dexterity, and it’s the best ear training you can do. And it’s fun. Bravo
Thanks. Once you’ve got this under your belt it’s much easier to start adding more complex vocabulary too. Works for me
😊
12:30 I love all of your stuff cant wait to practice all of it
Great to hear Ed.
Hi Darren, with such a tsunami of information on Jazz practise out there, it is so refreshing the way you put it in context. Beginning simply and gradually building up complexity, to get that genuine authentic jazz sound. A boat to grab and jump in too and ride the ways of information! Out there.
Thank you, not sure everyone agrees with you Anthony. I appreciate your support and nice comment
great lesson
Excellent lesson 🎺 🙂. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the lesson Maestro
My pleasure!
Hi, Great lessons that you provide. Wondering if at 2:55 you mention playing melodic minor for the V-i. Did you mean harmonic minor? Thank you for all of your great material.
yes i did, apologies
Yes, 👍🏻

Me encantó, está Super. Hermoso solo 👍🏼🔥
Thanks 🙏

God damn, Chet really was a motherfucker, wasn't he? Almost everything he played came out so effortlessly. I remember in his documentary Jack Sheldon saying how he used to fuckin pissed because Chet would just "push buttons" and the hottest shit would come out. On Jack's end though, he really had to work at shit, play everyday and concentrate with counting the bars of the of tunes, as he would frequently get lost. But Chet would walk up to the mic and just proceed to give him a nice ass whoopin of a lesson in jazz trumpet.
Chet’s great. The book ‘Deep in a dream’ is worth a look
Espectacular Darren!!!! 👏👏👏 Thank's!!!! ❤
Glad you liked it!
Excelente!!! Simple, eficaz, musical, jazzero. Con muy poco lograr mucho!!!! 👏👏👏👏
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Which mic do you use? Love your sound btw!
The cheapest one from thomann
Wow, finally a great, SIMPLE, explanation of what exactly is going on and how to practice it... damn, thanks
Hope it helps, it does take a while to get everything internalised I warn you! Patience is key
Mouthpiece Warburton? Model?
I think an 8xd in this with a 10 backbore
What mouthpiece do you usually play? It looks like a Warburton. Acronym?
I’ve got loads and I’m always switching. In this video it’s a Kelly 7c
Muito bom! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thank you.
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Sou fã, não perco um vídeo.
