lol, ok, keep believing that Edit: apparently stupidity is a disease, my comment was directed at the comment trying to equate rockets to that of a electric motor.
@Bait28 there isn't much that can rival the speed, precision and/or torque of an electric motor. Diesel is garbage compared to a good electric drive, that's why everything big uses electric. The only time internal combustion is better is if you need a portable solution, and even then, sometimes diesel just powers a generator which turns electric motors.
What's crazy is that the motor is a synchronous motor instead of asynchronous (basic squirrel cage motor), which is incredibly rare even with motors far below this wattage rating. Normally you only see synchronous motors below 10kW.
Well it IS a fitting use for a synchronous machine. No load under starting conditions (except inertia :P), probably no frequent starts, more like once per day or once per week and enough power consumption that even a few percent more efficiency over an induction machine are a significant power saving. Furthermore, the sync machine can be used as a synchronous condenser to improve facility power factor and power stability. In some countries people now even use idling synchronous machines on the grid to add stability and stiffness that PV inverters do not have in their current form (electrical enghineering is working on better ones though :D ). SMs are really good news for everyone if you can fit em into an application.....

sounds like star delta to me, gets a kick right at the end of windup to waver a little before it smooths out, also...is there other electric chippers like this on here? im only able to find the commercial portable street units, if theres a log grinder like this one that runs way faster...
Bevan Wilson I guess with 'direct online' they only mean that it runs on distribution voltages. It might still switch between star and delta. Though that have to be pretty robust relays then. But it should be possible. If they can switch it on and off, they can also switch it between star and delta.
