    Hi Dave....
I have watched many videos here on RUclips from various guys like Fritz and others who live for HVAC.
I wanted to take a minute to applaud you for something I noticed in every single video you make.
You say at the end that if someone has problems to call you.. You realize that thousands of people may watch this and your willing to help them even over the phone.
That says a lot about a person, and I really like that. Please never change !
RUclips needs more good honest people like you and the other pros here and I commend you sir on your videos and tutelage!
    Best regards,
    Adam

Hi Dave, I am in the process of wiring up a new single stage hvac system. I will be using a honeywell T6 pro thermostat. I noticed it doesn't have O/B connection. Trying to figure out where to tie my reversing valve wire to. Should I tie orange wire to W2 ?

You are correct in everything, I never use theX terminal. Thanks or your comment.

Blue wire is usually common, hook it up to C if you have heat pump.
Do not if you have gas unit,

    Hi Dave
I wanted thank you for explaining complex concepts in simple terms. I srtade looking up HVAC videos as my heat pump acts funny in ac mode. I have a lennox heat pump 14hpx series. Every few hours it blows warm air even in ac mode. Air is hot enough It will actually raise temp of rooms from 80 to 85. I looked at outdoor unit and when this happens the outside unit fan blows cool air from top.
I then change setting in my thermostat (honeywell focus pro th6000). I make fan to 'on' from 'auto' and set the system to cool till 'cool on' sign comes on.
    Any insight will be appreciated.

Not sure if you are watching this I'm having issue with a goodman packaged heatpump rooftop model. Last summer I installed a honeywell wifi thermostat I connected up the extra 24 volt wire everything worked okay. Now that it's winter when I turn on heat I get AC not heat. The reversing valve isn't activating I connected the yellow wire to Y I don't believe my HP has a 2nd stage heating strip because with my old thermostat when it got below 40 degrees it would blow cold air. I didn't have that extra wire.

I figured it out ill leave this for anyone else to read the problem was the honeywell wifi thermostat has to be configured for heatpump in the system settings. I must have missed that when I installed it. There are several settings for different types so make sure you set that under system settings.

And in case you are very green (new to the field) G terminal is what powers the blower motor aka indoor fan, don't get confused when u hear fan to mistake it for the condenser(outdoor) fan. Condenser fan comes on with compressor

Hello Dave I have a heat pump unit by Heil company, and I'm trying to figure out why my unit outside be cover with ice after a long time running on heater. It would cycle on and off when it reaches it's set temp, but later in the evening it starts to fill with ice outside. Now the fan blower stays on and it still cycle heat to the settings but the blower stays on putting out cold air. Do the heat pump suppose to work this way. I don't remember it working like this. So in the morning I would go outside and hose the ice off of it to make it cycle on and off like it suppose to until it freeze up again. Please Help me !!

Chris you only need from your thermostat ,the G, and the W ,the W for the electric heating strip, and the G for the fan relay, and from the indoor terminal block the Common from the thermostat C connected to both electric Heating strip relay, and the fan relay.make sure both Rand ,C are connected to the thermostat, but the C is optional with battery, some thermostat works only with Batteries, C is not used.do not use E, or W2 for your unit, only use W, emergency therm is used as a supplemental heat, for a heat pump unit, not for a first stage or single heating system.once the thermostat is satisfied the Electric heat relay is de-energized by the W.

Why didn't you explain to use the labels on the outer part of the terminal strips on this heat pump. You use the labels on the inside of the terminals for a conventional set up. dang David. `

Confused...orange is only hot in the cool mode....unless its a rheem/ruud they energize RV in the heat mode (B terminal)...a heat pump contactor is energized all the time...the RV determines if its heat or cool....the W1/W2 sends control voltage back to heat strips to bring in on when in defrost or if it can't keep up with demand...unless it has does no BACKUP HEAT at all...still confused with your interpretation....wired up many of York 10 wire heat pumps in my day....what does the X terminal do....status light.....old school here....

He accidentally said orange is y1, he meant to say w1, reversing valve sometimes marked as "O". Nice video otherwise
