@@mikecimerian6913 No, this was before the beginning of the Gorbachev era. Probably Brezhnev liked some of Elton's songs, and he allowed him to give several concerts in the USSR. But it was a real shock for all rock fans in the USSR.
In my opinion that was the best Elton's solo (I mean without whole band) concert ever! Absolutely perfection! Simply genius... Ray incredible too, as always. Oh, how I wish I was there!
@@ladyelton4373 this was Elton's first tour after retirement, so he had already sacked the original band once at this point (to which Davey would join for the Goaldiggers benefit at Wembley Pool in 1977, but was the only one of the original band to join. OK, look....I LOVE Ray Cooper. I've seen him in concert many times performing with Elton John. He's a friggin' percussion genius. Now, having said that, am I the only one who thinks he resembles Heinrich Himmler just a little bit in this video? Hmmmmmm?
Отличный концерт. Жаль его посетили в основном коммунистические деятели и прочий сброд. Билеты распределялись через партийные организации. Great concert. Sorry, it was visited by mostly Communist activists and other riff-raff. Tickets were distributed through party organizations.

It did, in facts you can see his Back in the USSR performance at the beginning of the documentary "To Russia With Elton". The only problem is that the performance is edited like most songs (only Your Song, Daniel, I Think I'm going to kill myself and Better off Dead don't have cut editing) included on the documentary :(.
