Bucovina ~ Female Eagle Brings In 5TH ROE DEER! Long Feeding & Massive Crop On Eaglet Again 6.21.21

- Mom comes through once again and arrives with her 5th roe deer fawn (Capreolus capreolus) ~ her chick rushes over and mantles it fully! Mom is quite pleased with her delivery and seeing the aggressiveness in her chick now in mantling and claiming the incoming prey. She leaves and allows her chick so learn how to self feed on this mammal. The chick is smart and stands on it and pulls and tears small bites. Of course, the chick is not strong enough to totally self feed yet - Mom returns 50 minutes later and picks up the deer fawn and begins to feed her vocal & hungry chick!
This is a long feeding that continues on well past the length of this video. The chick's crop just continues to grow & grow as Mom serves up this nutritious iron and protein clad meal. Watch as the chick swallows more bones and big bites. At the very end of the video Mom will swallow one of the deer legs 33:44. The female golden eagles is an excellent huntress and this substantial meal was a much needed turning point as the eaglet had very little sustenance over the previous 5 days. In fact, the last time the eaglet had a large crop like this was on June 16th. Well done Mom! Dad will also bring in a hooded crow - will be in a subsequent video! Thank you for watching!

This nest is located in a remote area of Bucovina Romania where a pair of Golden Eagles have been nesting and raising their young. The Wild Bucovina Association is a non government and non profit organization that has set up a new webcam recently to observe a rare pair of golden eagles raise their chick. This pair has been observed locally for the past 6 years. Setting up the cam has spooked the male and he had not been back to the nest. On 6/13/21 the male returned to the nest with prey for the first time since the cam installation.The female is hunting and taking care of their chick.The male has been seen and photographed flying with the female close to the nest and is also hunting for the family. Due to the sensitive nature of nest disturbance & the consequences involved, caution is advised while viewing this wild golden eagle nest.

This is also a cautionary tale as placement of the cam did spook dad.. Took him away from the nest and left all the rearing responsibilities to mom.

I am so happy this chick has been generously fed. I was beginning to fear the worst. Wow, what a beautiful site to behold as this chick has a crop that is very, very substantial. The feeding was needed and came at the perfect time. Our little one was getting hungry and I was getting crazy!! Way to go Mom, you saved the chick and most definitely saved this day. I love this chick. Those long gorgeous legs are amazing. I hope and pray this day's delivery will be a constant from here on out. My poor old heart cannot take too much.

@@adotintheshark4848 I was referring to the eaglet! One year ago this chick in Bucovina went for DAYS without being fed. The parents were having a hard time finding it food. To be clear, it hurts my heart when another animal becomes prey. It took me a long time to make peace with "nature". In many cases, an animal dies so another may survive. When a baby roe deer was brought to the best, I could not watch.

Super Mom came through with another roe deer fawn, she's incredible . It was so satisfying to see the baby with an enormous crop again, certainly needed after the scarcity of food the last few days.
Mom is so gentle with her baby and the eaglet responds with satisfied chittering and snuggling in Mom's feathers.🥰 ❤️

Watching two golden eagle nests and Perle the chick at the other nest is so quiet compared to our sweet one here. This chatter box is such a delight to watch. And the difference of food between both nests is interesting as it is different prey. So happy our little bit here finally has a good meal. This shows the statement Feast or Famine in reality doesn't it.
@Tamara Gonzalez I don't think Perle is a golden eagle. I believe she is a Lesser Spotted Eagle. She may not be a chatterbox but she is a snappy eaglet! It's cute watching her bonk her mom

So wonderful to see baby with such a huge crop! One of many! Such wonderful parents. Mom is amazing and even though Dad is still a little leery of the cam, he still brings food. Baby is doing amazingly well self-feeding. Gosh, I love this sweet baby! Thank you, Lady Hawk!

Are all Golden eagles as good as This Huntress Mom?
I remember watching another golden eagle and it was her first time being a mom and did not bring food (probably didn’t know) and this Mom is superwoman! 🌸❄️🌿💚
Hello Cr Kwon - usually it is the male golden eagle that is the main provider for the family and the female takes care of the chick. It seems that this female is indeed a very good huntress and that is fortunate. If she wasn't, the chick would not have survived after the camera was installed because the cam installation scared the male away from the nest for four weeks. If she would not have taken up sole responsibility for bringing in prey, Zenit would have starved to death.
The other nest you are referring too was in Latvia and Spilve was a first time Mom. She was dependent upon her mate Virsis for bringing in prey. When he suddenly went missing (and we presume he was shot and killed) she waited and waited for him to return with prey.When she did start to bring food to Klints it was too little too late.
Zenit left eye looks dilating towards left more.
Hope he can still fly later when his able to fledge. Any information to this(?) LadyHawk?

TY Lady Hawk for all your videos here. I was wondering about the chick's left eye. Seems to have that white area in the inner corner. It has looked odd to me for a week or so. What are your thoughts? Good to see the full crop. Last year with Spilve still hurts.- although she made me see that these birds can grieve.
Hello momma bear and nice to see you again! I believe the white in the left eye that we see every once in awhile is part of the nictitating membrane that seems to be caught in the corner at times. The inner eyelid closes like a wiper blade from left to right when it covers the eye. There does not seem to be any sign of infection or irritation of the left eye. Initially I thought there was a downy feather or something that got caught in the eye but then it goes away completely. I know what you mean about the hurt with Spilve and Klints - I feel that same sadness too. I think those of us who watched Latvia last season all are hoping that this GE chick will fledge and live a long life! ♥
@@ladyhawk I so hope for that. This chick is so adorable. Mom has been doing a fantastic job, especially since dad is still wary of the cam- much work has fallen to her. She obviously loves her chick.Life is tough for these animals- food is a constant challenge.

Listen Im only being silly when I make this comment but I couldnt be a bird parent and come home bringing food or coming gome to rest between trying to get food for my baby and it constantly makes this chirping noise the whole time Im there. It is amazing that a bird can kill a deer? Even killing a small deer is still surprising, no matter how many times that i have seen it in these videos. Also, how do birds of prey kill their prey? Do they stab one of their talons into the back of it's neck or the back of the skull? How do they do it?
I just hope that eagles and other wildlife is ultimately able to co-exist with the giant wind turbines that are popping up all across the globe.

To everybody wondering how the bird can digest that huge leg bone. It doesn't. It regurgitates it in something called a pellet. A pellet consists of bones and feathers and other indigestible parts of prey items.

I'm not sure if I am the only one that had gotten to the point of seriously limiting my viewing of this family the last few days. I could not stand seeing the struggle. I cannot think of a time since I have been watching raptors' nests that I have felt so much anxiety awaiting the future and the outcome of a period of famine. The absolute relief is overwhelming. I fell head over heels for this family immediately and want to see success so bad I feel it in my bones. Nature is beautiful and brutal to my fragile human mind. It is my responsibility to realize and accept I have no control over what happens in nature but it is so hard sometimes. It is a blessing to see this family overcome these last few days triumphantly. All this said, I must still realize there could be more troubling times ahead, but for now we celebrate a victory with a full crop and hope for more to celebrate in the future. Hi Edison....I totally understand your comment, and you can express yourself anytime you want which is a good thing:) As a raptor, the GE food source is not fish....it's actually birds, deer, mammals, etc...Sometimes, hunting may be difficult for the GE because of the weather as the hunted animals seek shelter! Both, Mom and Dad are working together, and I believe this little one will become a beauty like Mom and will have the strength of it's Dad! Surviving raw nature is powerful, and to watch Mom preen her baby as it chitters is amazing to watch. Edison...stay safe and be well, too. I wish the best for this GE family:)

Thank you Edison for your poignant comment and I have felt many of the same fears and worries as you and many others. We always want to see abundant food sources brought in to the nest and the chick well fed each day but we also know that this is a wild eagle nest and finding prey each day may be difficult. For the past 5 days, I would turn on my computer when I first wake up and check on the nest hoping to see a full crop on the chick from a delivery - and when I saw a flat crop and the chick crying out I would feel a sadness because I hate to see hunger or suffering. I have been watching raptor nests for a decade so I also have patience and hope that things can turn around on a positive note very quickly and sure enough today we experienced that blessing! It is very easy to get attached to watching and we are human with human emotions - this chick captured all our hearts ♥♥ I felt relief and a tremendous sense of happiness to see not only a full crop but an overflowing crop all day long! I hope & pray this eaglet will find the strength and good fortune to fledge and live a long life!! ♥

So relieved to see this first substantial meal in days. I've been worried and gradually staying away from the live stream. The memory of Spilve and Klints from last year is just too painful to not have learned to keep a psychological distance... Very happy for the eaglet though, well done Mom! Such a great huntress!!
