  • In a sudden but urgent event, I quickly made my way to Lynch 3 after receiving a phone call that 2 locomotives were on the ground! A train bound for US Steel was in its runaround process at Lynch 3 when a broken rail completely derailed the lead unit and partially derailed the trailing unit. RJ Corman had a quick response and had both engines back on track by nightfall, all of which you can see in this video!
    Though the incident was unfortunate, it still made for a fantastic learning opportunity and gave me the chance to bring the actions and consequences of these type of events to you!
    I hope you guys enjoy this action packed adventure! I know that this video is off of my normal upload schedule, but take it as my treat; I couldn't wait to get it to you guys! I have worked nonstop to put it together and so here it is, I hope you all enjoy!

    Hi Micah! Great video!
    Yes these sorts of things happen
    It’s a part of railroading
    There’s a local channel I follow
    CCRX that’s railroading
    There’s a local coal mine that has a railroad to transport the coal from the mine to the Monongahela River where the coal is transported onto barges and then to CSX for transport
    Have a great day!!

    That looked like very shiny rail for track that hadn't been used for decades. Great work by both the R J Corman and CSX crews.

    Nice catch! I see there is a new breed of side boom tractors? All very flash compared to the old CAT's.? I assume the rail stayed upright and just broke.....would of been a mess if the rail was on its side :-) Nice work by RJC as usual.
    Cheers Gregg.

    What is sprayed in the hoppers before they are loaded?

    • @railfanmicahturner
      @railfanmicahturner  5 месяцев назад +6

      A type of antifreeze that prevents the coal from freezing in the hoppers during the winter months

    That is interesting but when did you take the video, I though USS had quit working this line a long time ago and I know that the whole Cumberland Valley, Div is up for sale if anybody wants it. I'm retired from CSX and train simulations for ORTS. This division is in progress.

      Recent, as in a month or so ago. Though it was up for sale at one point, it is no longer up for sale and is actually very busy. The original steel train ran to the original Lynch, yet US Steel still receives coal via Lynch 3. This line isn’t going anywhere anytime soon

    Track Maintenance looks Horrible in the Area of the Derailment. 🤔👎

    • @BlackMan614
      @BlackMan614 5 месяцев назад +3

      With the way the coal business is now, mines open/close based on the price (that has NOT changed over the years) but their market has shrunk. The railroads have pulled back in the coalfields - closing branch lines and staging yards; neglecting maintenance. You see more deferred maintenance than I've ever seen. Yet... the export market is booming right now. No one has ever accused the CEO's of NS or CSX of being super geniuses.

      This is no excuse cut back maintenance on track pure simple csx miss boat big time.the market start and go on cheap is no no.i work in coal se bc canada and cprail all keep track in shape even market was going south in japan.they should cut dividend 10 - 15 % make big difference yup.thanks video😮
