Rimworld with mods does it but it is a different genre with similar difficulties though(hard as hell). Both futuristic, complicated, rng based and has absurd amount of difficulty but rainworld is more aesthetich, and unique way of introducing alien ecosystems
I love how each and every creature you encounter actually feels alive. Each lizard having unique colour shades and spikes, scavengers having unique personalities.. It all just is really great
Also 2 things I wanna also add 1) the “yellow” lizards hunt in packs and are very coordinated, but once you kill the leader they become uncoordinated 2) the leaping lizards can also make mistakes which can cost them their life, it’s very noticeable and I like it as it shows even the strongest may slip up
Also every creature doesn't feel like they want to kill you, they feel like they want to survive, they're not trying to kill you because they hate you or something but because they are just like you, they get hungry, they need food, in rain world everyone is the same, everyone has the same needs and you're just like every other creature, making the player not have any kind of advantage over the rest of NPCs is hard, but fair. You're a slug cat, you're on the bottom of the food chain, and everything around you is hungry
What I really like about Rain World is the fact that it really feels like actual survival. It doesn't feel like a video game as much as it feels like a fight to the death. The real world is unforgiving and unfair, just like Rain World.
Just started playing rain world Found this dumb little bug with tentacles Grabbed it, it helped me jump higher Found it's nest Stole it's baby Used it to parachute down Fed it to alligator things Great game 10/10
what do you mean it's baby? The first thing was likely a squidcada, but they don't actually have babies. The alligator things are lizards, likely green ones, and you can tame lizards by giving them enough food, the food has to be big enough for the lizards, so fruits and batflies won't work.

So glad you’re covering rain world, one of my favorite game’s of all time, I think the reason why you(and most people) quit is because rain world most of the time needs an explanation to fully enjoy, being that it’s a game focused on creating a realistic version of the wild while still being an actual game, the reason why it doesn’t tell you everything is because nature doesn’t either, that’s why videocult worked so hard to make such a realistic ai, and that’s why you are given little direction on where to go, because Mother Nature doesn’t tell you that the red berries are Poisonous and blue ones aren’t, and rain world doesn’t tell you that the daddy long legs rely on hearing, when you understand that rain world becomes sort of a trance of experimentation and adaptation
I'd disagree that it requires an explanation to enjoy. To me, the most enjoyable part of the game is finding this stuff out. The game rewards you when you stop trying to play like you're a god, and actually be a patient observer, which is how the game completely makes you feel like an animal.
That’s what I meant, if I explained it badly than that’s my fault, when I said explanation I didn’t mean linking the tech doc, I meant that people that I’ve met don’t understand that the fame is based on adapting to the circumstances and learning without being led by the hand, and just think that they died to bad rng( as did video man) sorry if I confused you
Fun fact that tutorial at the start that teaches you how to eat and sleep wasnt supposed to be a thing the creators wanted you to learn EVERYTHING yourself and thats cool
The composer said that the music and levels were designed alongside eachother in an interview, and imo it's top-notch. Shoutout to James Primate for his work in emphasizing the harshness and emotional aura of the game. With that said, the game has few words given to you to describe the lore--I'd say it heavily relies on the environments around you to tell it.
Thank you foekoe. I never knew i wanted rainworld untill now, But after watching your video about it i spent a good 3 hours watching rainworld videos. Im planning on getting the game soon to! Thanks for informing me about this!
honestly this is why you are one of my favorite youtubers, most other "commentary youtubers" just complain about something for 12 minutes with csgo in the backround. but you actually put effort in to your videos instead of just complaining for 14 minutes.
Once you get to know Rain World's lore, it gets 100x better. It takes a bit to get it in game (you can also find it on the Rain World wiki), but it adds even more depth. Definitely one of my all time favorite games!
This game is a master piece to say the least. Kinda weird that it's VideoCult's first commercial release but then again Stanley Parable was Galactic Cafe's first as well
I'm N E V E R gonna play this because I suck at video games XD but I looooove the lore or Rain World's with all it's mystery and ITERATORS WHAT THE FRI- Edit: I got it for my birthday, I've played the tutorial to many times, I've developed shortcuts to the best paths, I saw Moon, screamed because shoreline, downloaded jolly co-op and taught my friends how to play, created 18 OCs for the game, and now I'm in chimney canyon getting bullied by lizards and vultures.
A little tip for anyone who's played the game and is having trouble progressing because of karma gates trapping you: The devs implimented cheat codes into the game. You can remove karma gate requirements by placing a text file called nifflasmode . txt in your game directory. This only works for PC, but Rain World is best played on PC.
I love rain world because it’s slightly realistic, like if you are an actual wild animal, you don’t get any pointers on what will eat you and what won’t, where is safe and where isn’t, you’ve got to figure that out yourself. It’s also very unforgiving, like real life is too. Everything wants to survive, and to do that it might have to eat you.
@@rompevuevitos222 what's conflicting design? And what is the barely functional mechanics? The game gives you a overseer that literally guides you through the best path for beginners, once you make it to looks to the moon, the game makes that overseer useless, because the game is confident in you being good enough to explore on your own Also your the same guy who complained about the movement system right? Even though the only thing you need in that movment system is the long jump, and maybe the backflip, which are the easiest things to do in the movement system
@@Cringe89563 Ok some conflicting design choices the dev explained in his stream: Encourage slow advancements and exploration: this is directly countered by the time limit, you can't take your time when every second wasted time not only means having to redo an area, but also being set back karma-wise. Maybe you have enough time, but since you don't know where the next rest spot is nor the time left, this isn't something you can rely on Feel like prey: as soon as you become good enough at the game to play it as "intended" enemies become rather easy to kill outside of some bigger threats. Making this feeling go away. This is why horror games like Amnesia don't give you weapons Tight controls vs alien feeling of the creatures: creatures tend to move erratically, and this is mostly due to the dev not really caring since the objective is to make the creatures feel alien in nature, the feel was put above the controls and NPC behaviour
I remember seeing this on a twitch stream a pretty long time ago from a funny red man and I thought it looked pretty good, haven't thought about it until now
This video was my first exposure to this game. After it gained some popularity, I decided to buy it on sale. Within an hour or so, I died at least a dozen times, got depressed, discovered this game's version of hollow knight's shade mechanic, and had to squeeze by a lizard who was blocking the path to a shelter mere seconds before a deadly rainstorm approached. This game is perfect for me.
Honestly doe, it's the unrelenting grip of curiosity that kept me coming back. Just so strange yet fascinating the world is. Keeps you wanting to know more and put the pieces together. Kind of a masterpiece Subnautica is.
Ive been playing this game for in a few months 7 years now. For most of that time I thought this game would never be recognized (and kind of cherished its nicheness) but over the past year or two rapidly became more popular (possibly due to a video by Curious Archive). It doesnt really make the game more accessible though, and I think new players might have a slightly spoiled experience if they play the game after watching a video explaining its mechanics. As good as it is and as much as its public awareness has increased, I havent recommended it to much people in the time ive played it. Though it has gone from this game being incredibly obscure to pretty mainstream in a way I just never thought would happen. Im studying Games Design at university at the moment, Rain World is partially one of the reasons why I ever got interested in the industry. The fact that in about 3 years from now the game will be almost a decade old is a little weird, I remember playing it when it came out. I partially cant help but dislike the community a little nowadays, now that its full of people making kind of cringey slugcat OCs and shipping characters, etc kind of what I remember the Hollow Knight community being like. Back when the game first came out its community was almost entirely adults who were enthusiastic about the games mechanics and unusuality. Thats always a side effect of popularity though i guess.
This was such a good game. You could immerse yourself in animal foraging, participate in the ecosystem, and learn some of the more intelligent things such as trading. Taking pearls to Moon was always fun and challenging, trying to manage how far you could go without trading with the Scavengers and managing how fast you could go in one day without starving. Often I would put berries in the burrows ahead of time, rely on bat hunting to top off for a day, then fill up on fruit the next morning all with a green pearl in my cheek pouch and carrying a diamond-colored pearl in my secondary hand so I don’t give scavengers the wrong pearl. The vultures, the natural apex predator for most areas, always kept the game interesting, and taking a vulture’s mask made the game something entirely different. I’m sad that the game never grew like I hoped it would, but sometimes it’s better for a game to go quietly on into the future as a hidden gem.
For some reason I never truly enjoyed Hollow Knight. Never actually beat it. I think once I was half way through, but then just completely lost interest. Kept trying to reply it, but no luck. Rain World on the other hand was one of the few games I ever 100%. It’s a magical experience, nothing compares really. Yeah it’s hard and little unfair at first, but once you somewhat master the Slugcat movement style, he’s hilariously broken. Predators don’t stand a chance, well as long as you see them coming that is
i recently got the game and one of the first things i accidentally did was a back flip and i was like “wow thats really cool” and ended up spending an hour trying to figure out how i did it in the first place

That’s what I meant, if I explained it badly than that’s my fault, when I said explanation I didn’t mean linking the tech doc, I meant that people that I’ve met don’t understand that the fame is based on adapting to the circumstances and learning without being led by the hand, and just think that they died to bad rng( as did video man) sorry if I confused you
I was also trying to say the animal thing with the Mother Nature bit, again, my bad
2:41 I like how you provided a factual description of the DLL as an insult.
By just watching this I can tell how alive this world is
I'm gonna get this game as soon as possible
Fun fact that tutorial at the start that teaches you how to eat and sleep wasnt supposed to be a thing the creators wanted you to learn EVERYTHING yourself and thats cool
It’s honestly my favorite game, the world just feels so ALiVe
Rainworld is so amazing holy crap, the publishers, videocult, are working on something new, definitely check out their youtube channel
I always wondered where this game went after I stopped hearing about it. I love the style and it looks really fun so I'll probably try it. Good video!
Foekoe make a video on factorio now that it’s out of early acces
your pfp is beautiful
sleepy crusader thank you I don’t know how to change it
@sleepy crusader I would say its cursed, but ok.
Cursed with the absolute zenith of beauty and glamour
@@The_KingDoge LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Definitely one of my all time favorite games!
water go gulp gulp yummy
Yes he finally played
Hopefully rain world get the recognition it deserves

Dellor: first time?
i remember watching a full playthrough of rain world the person playing was so happy that he managed to beat it and the ending was worth it
can you find me the let's play?? I'm just asking.
@@kaexewires7531 im sorry i can't the person was streaming the game and it has been atleast a year or two (may have been on the year of release)
well another reason for me to keep playing it
I'm thankful RUclips recommended me your channel recently! I bought the game and this is really something
This is a silly nitpick, but just so people know, the blue circles do not mean general activity. They mean food :D Knowing that will probably help.
This game is a master piece to say the least. Kinda weird that it's VideoCult's first commercial release but then again Stanley Parable was Galactic Cafe's first as well
Love the new approach they took with the ori series.
yeah man, will of the wisps is actually the third game canonically speaking
Oh my gosh why does everyone have to compare this to other games, just buy it and play it man
i did buy ori, and it was amazing
@@owosinpan The main character looks nearly identical, I'm pretty sure that's the only reason for this joke.
I'm N E V E R gonna play this because I suck at video games XD but I looooove the lore or Rain World's with all it's mystery and ITERATORS WHAT THE FRI-
Edit: I got it for my birthday, I've played the tutorial to many times, I've developed shortcuts to the best paths, I saw Moon, screamed because shoreline, downloaded jolly co-op and taught my friends how to play, created 18 OCs for the game, and now I'm in chimney canyon getting bullied by lizards and vultures.
A little tip for anyone who's played the game and is having trouble progressing because of karma gates trapping you:
The devs implimented cheat codes into the game. You can remove karma gate requirements by placing a text file called nifflasmode . txt in your game directory. This only works for PC, but Rain World is best played on PC.
i really loved rain world
but damn, i love how moding comiunity makes it better
Totally accurate battle simulator: Wacky physics Making strategy games exciting
I like that game
I can't play this because if I get eaten I'm going to miss The Croods, premiering March 22nd 2013
Except you get pointers, which point nowhere useful, but you still get them
@@rompevuevitos222 Is all you do complain about a game letting you explore instead of hand holding you?
@@Cringe89563 i complain about the game having conflicting design and barely functional mechanics
@@rompevuevitos222 what's conflicting design? And what is the barely functional mechanics? The game gives you a overseer that literally guides you through the best path for beginners, once you make it to looks to the moon, the game makes that overseer useless, because the game is confident in you being good enough to explore on your own
Also your the same guy who complained about the movement system right? Even though the only thing you need in that movment system is the long jump, and maybe the backflip, which are the easiest things to do in the movement system
@@Cringe89563 Ok some conflicting design choices the dev explained in his stream:
Encourage slow advancements and exploration: this is directly countered by the time limit, you can't take your time when every second wasted time not only means having to redo an area, but also being set back karma-wise. Maybe you have enough time, but since you don't know where the next rest spot is nor the time left, this isn't something you can rely on
Feel like prey: as soon as you become good enough at the game to play it as "intended" enemies become rather easy to kill outside of some bigger threats. Making this feeling go away. This is why horror games like Amnesia don't give you weapons
Tight controls vs alien feeling of the creatures: creatures tend to move erratically, and this is mostly due to the dev not really caring since the objective is to make the creatures feel alien in nature, the feel was put above the controls and NPC behaviour
I remember seeing this on a twitch stream a pretty long time ago from a funny red man and I thought it looked pretty good, haven't thought about it until now
yes finally give the slug mews more love
This video was my first exposure to this game. After it gained some popularity, I decided to buy it on sale. Within an hour or so, I died at least a dozen times, got depressed, discovered this game's version of hollow knight's shade mechanic, and had to squeeze by a lizard who was blocking the path to a shelter mere seconds before a deadly rainstorm approached. This game is perfect for me.
I'm so glad someone actually loves this game other than me 😭
there are 6k people on the discord server though
I have loved rain world for so long. Its one of my favourite games and at least in my top 5.

It certainly succeeds in making you feel like the small, helpless animal that your character is.

The redeeming quality for me was being ale to pin lizards to a wall and watc them struggle

Hey guess what
*_it's raining lizards_*
I bought this game seconds after seen the trailer in Adult Swim channel, definitely worth it, sad it crashes now on my Ps4
aw man I feel you :(
I love this game as well, it's merciless, unforgiving, punishing and it doesn't apologise for itself.
you really need to make a vid on the henry stickmin collection
Rain World is an IQ test
Unforgiving? Tells you nothing? Death is punishing? I recognize that.
That's right.........Mario world is just like that
Seriously guys... play this game it is so fucking good!
"With most games you at least have an idea of what you're doing"
Nearly all of games that Foekoe likes: 👀
... That game actually looks much more interesting than Hollow Knight hah
True
For some reason I never truly enjoyed Hollow Knight. Never actually beat it. I think once I was half way through, but then just completely lost interest. Kept trying to reply it, but no luck. Rain World on the other hand was one of the few games I ever 100%. It’s a magical experience, nothing compares really. Yeah it’s hard and little unfair at first, but once you somewhat master the Slugcat movement style, he’s hilariously broken. Predators don’t stand a chance, well as long as you see them coming that is
It may look more interesting but i can say that both are really good games
i recently got the game and one of the first things i accidentally did was a back flip and i was like “wow thats really cool” and ended up spending an hour trying to figure out how i did it in the first place
You should play a game called subnautica. It’s kinda dead but is still fun for me 😁 It’s a survival game and is kinda boring at first but the more you play it, the more fun it is. You should really try it out.
I don’t think it’s really dead, not yet. I haven’t visited it in awhile, but I’m pretty sure things are still going on with it and it’s DLC.
I guess it’s still not dead but I still play it
It's also a low-key horror game
it's just real life but better
