Notes: 3.Epithelial tissues Two kinds: PROPER/PRIMARY EPITHELIUM (covers & lines the outer and inner body) and GLANDULAR EPITHELIUM (forms the glands and secretes hormones & other substances). Epithelial tissues are Avascular (not associated with or supplied by blood vessels). They instead rely on the blood supply to the Connective tissues around them for the materials they need. Criteria for classification of Epithelial cells: Shape of the individual cells and the number of layers that they form in. THREE BASIC SHAPES: SQUAMOUS cells (flattened shape and flat nucleus, fast absorption and diffusion, making thin membranes). CUBOIDAL cells (spherical nucleus, cuboidal cell shape, absorb nutrients and produce secretions like sweat). COLUMNAR cells (Elliptical nucleus, column shaped cell with hexagonal cross-section, tall, thick & cushion underlying tissues, absorb nutrients and produce secretions). Usually the form (shape and layering) of the epithelial cell is related to it's function/purpose. Producing cells take a lot of time, energy and raw materials. So in places where we lose a lot of cells (like outer skin or mouth) we have squamous cells because they are biologically cheaper. TYPES OF LAYERING: SIMPLE EPITHELIUM: one layer of cells. STRATIFIED: Multiple layers set up on top of each other, like bricks. PSEUDOSTRATIFIED: Mostly one layer but formed with cells of different shapes and sizes. The cells nuclei can be at a lot of different levels (i.e they don't lie on the same plane- different heights). So it looks like multi layered. NAMING OF A EPITHELIAL TISSUE: First name: Number of layers. Last name: Shape of its cells. Example: Simple squamous epithelium. All Epithelial cells are POLAR i.e they have distinct sides. The boundaries of many of these cells are 'Selectively Permeable'(Allowing for some level of absorption, filtration and excretion of substances). Example: tissues lining the small intestine allows absorption of nutrients through diffusion and active transport. This is what makes possible all interaction we have with the world since Epithelial cells line both the insides and outside of the body (U Tube) . GLANDULAR EPITHELIUM forms two different types of glands: ENDOCRINE glands (secrete hormones directly into the blood stream or to nearby cells) and EXOCRINE glands (secrete their juices into tubes or ducts that lead to the outside of the body.
this might sound a little silly, but I'm going through a rough emotional time right now and watching cold hard science interspersed with cheesy jokes really helps me move my focus away from harmful things. Thank you, Hank.
My teacher keep trying to explain this to class for a month and while I get the basic, I don't get the whole idea but it only took you ten minute to make me understand wow, Hank... thank you so much!

DakuHonoo Then you're not being taught well, or just being told what to remember to do something, and not why it's used, or where in the real world it's naturally done. I'm studying Electronic Engineering, and the math and physics involved comes naturally, just as well as the coding and making of the hardware. And coding by nature, there's no natural rule to many things, ingenuity yes. Reason? Not so much. It was just a designer's nick to do it on one way or the other, and THEN you will be overwhelmed, unless organized, well divided, and calmly exemplified. Good luck though. :D
Draw dex that's very nice of you but you're wrong ... i used to be great at math, the numbers, formulas would dance around until they fit in their place and an answer would show up...that's not happening anymore... also, i'm not studying engineering but physics, there's a bit of a difference, like i had 5 math classes covering 3 different categories? at once...it's my fault that i don't try but i lost both motivation and confidence just before i enrolled and with the kind of approach i'm not fit for a university ... i have a distinct feeling that i'm becoming a failure....and it all comes down to me never being able to motivate myself on my own... i've never tried my best for myself, only for people i cared for a lot...now i'd love to be able to... i'd love to listen to all those people who say to try my best, to just keep on going... i can't ... that's why i'm going for IT, because from my perspective it's easy, i honestly don't know anymore where i found the confidence to even think i could become a physicist, especially knowing that i'd always go for the shortcut, to try the easiest way possible

I doing college anatomy and physiology right now. I’ve been so stressed just reading the textbook over and over again. These videos have really helped my understanding of the subject and made it interesting. Thank you 🙏
I really wish my teachers would have made use of these videos in class... Even if English is not my first language this still makes a lot more sense than my text books ever did. I'm in my first year of university studying BSc and I think the only reason I was able to get the grades I did for science and biology was (and still is) thanks to you guys !
About to enlist into the Air Force and will be taking on the Aerospace Medical position. I failed A&P about 15 years ago and wanted to get ahead of my studies before I ship out to base. This is SUPER helpful and actually interesting. THANK YOU. This makes me feel confident that I will succeed.
+Rafael Stevenson They mentioned physics is going to be released several times, including in youtube comments and their tumblr page! I also think they said end of March but I could be wrong.
I can't stress how much you guys help! I was reading my book, labs, & PowerPoints and I still just wasn't really getting it. You guys take it to a whole new level. I now have a better understanding of all this. Thanks so much. Now back to rewatching all these videos!! :-)
Man, this would have been good to have 5 months ago when I actually had this class. Sigh, this always happens, I finish a class and a month later, crashcourse episodes start coming out for that subject. Oh well, I loved this subject, it's so interesting learning how you body works! The human body is amazing!!
These videos have been so helpful in classes. As soon as someone mentions a type of epithelium, I picture these animations with ease! Thank you so much!
i`m not a native english speaker, I do know how to understand it though. However, he speaks so fast that I may only understand what he is saying when the video is on speed 0,75X... but the content is the best ive ever seen!! thank you for it S2
yes they are same and as well they protect like stomach epithilium (simple collomunar epithilium) secrets mucous to protect from acidity that gastric glands are secreting.
You guys should make study apps. I'd be willing to pay for one with the graphics and everything I'm sure you do. Your videos helped me in LPN school and now I'm using them to refresh for RN school. Thank you so much!
If a dropout student watched all your videos 3x a day every day then he/she would most likey have a higher IQ then 82% of the public high school students....
Not IQ. He'd probably be able to understand the information presented here really well than a lot of people in bog-standard school around the world. HE'd probably also feel really bad about dropping out and would wish to study biology if he's genuinely interested. (Why did I not take biology dammit)
***** what can you do with a biomed degree? I've heard bad things (such as, there are very few carer options and your options for further education aren't that many either) but i am really interested in things like this >_
I Genuinely enjoy Crash Course's content and I have learned and retained more information through these courses then any classes of my formal education.
My ems instructor just sent me a 46 video Playlist 😂, and said "make sure you learn this". Thanks for making it easy to understand.... My head would explode otherwise
I love the animations of all your videos!!! Like the little you being thrown out... Right on your desk! Hilarious, makes me enjoy what I'm learning. (or rather reviewing) Thank you!

Thank you 🙏
Thank you God for giving me unique tissues that protect my body. Again, thank you My Lord.
I really wish my teachers would have made use of these videos in class... Even if English is not my first language this still makes a lot more sense than my text books ever did. I'm in my first year of university studying BSc and I think the only reason I was able to get the grades I did for science and biology was (and still is) thanks to you guys !
Im from Poland and Im learning with it :) its really helpful! thank you so much!
And here I am to bring this playlist into limelight again. Sharing the playlist with my medical college groups. May they all be blessed with this.
Pushing on the balloon like that made me so nervous, lol
I'm a big visual learner and crash course is really helping me through A&P.
That laugh after the "you tube" pun was amazing, So freaking adorkable.
About to enlist into the Air Force and will be taking on the Aerospace Medical position. I failed A&P about 15 years ago and wanted to get ahead of my studies before I ship out to base. This is SUPER helpful and actually interesting. THANK YOU. This makes me feel confident that I will succeed.
glee gym teacher :)
favoite "cameo" finn from adventure time in psycology
kyle humphreys Nice catch :)
yeah i was like, "is that sue?"
+kyle humphreys at first I thought it was Hillary Clinton.. then was wondering if it was on purpose or a coincidence....
It was sue i saw it too (and that rhymes)
I just cant thank this channel enough for making me love biology
Brilliantly done.
as a first year medical student thank you so very much this is literally so great and meowy i love it
please do a physics crash course
+Rafael Stevenson good idea
Yes!!!! Physics would help a lot if they start now. :/
Physics is going to be released *soon*, I think end of March!
silas qwerty reallyy? How do you knoww
:-)
This entire series is literally just a whole truckload of happy nuclei. :D
I'm so glad you guys decided to do a segment just on H&P. I love y'all.
"Haggling over tater tots"
Lunch every day at school
Man, this would have been good to have 5 months ago when I actually had this class. Sigh, this always happens, I finish a class and a month later, crashcourse episodes start coming out for that subject. Oh well, I loved this subject, it's so interesting learning how you body works! The human body is amazing!!
Oh, for me its the other way around.
Anyone else just have a flashback of Offspring's Come Out and Play (Gotta Keep 'em Separated)?
this is legit THE best explanation ever omg
I'd love to see a European History or Crash Course Ethics
These videos have been so helpful in classes. As soon as someone mentions a type of epithelium, I picture these animations with ease! Thank you so much!
so is proper and primary epithelium the same thing???
yes they are same.
oh.
*changes notes*
Tony Winters xD
Sherlock Watson same hahaha
I didn't think another video on tissue would be so interesting
"You gotta keep em separated" - the Offspring.
gosh! I am obsessed with the animations. SO CUTE!
Poor thought bubble Hank! I was kind of hoping someone would help him when he was thrown onto your desk in a trail a goo.
i`m not a native english speaker, I do know how to understand it though. However, he speaks so fast that I may only understand what he is saying when the video is on speed 0,75X... but the content is the best ive ever seen!! thank you for it S2
So, wait, are proper and primary epithelium the same thing?
But if it is to line, then it would protect as well, right?
yes they are same and as well they protect like stomach epithilium (simple collomunar epithilium) secrets mucous to protect from acidity that gastric glands are secreting.
men, you saved me in high school and you continue to help me in university. thank you so much. you are way better than my bio-science lecturer
bro, i love you
I would die without Crash Course. Thanks so much CC! You are the real MVP.
hahaha...... That laugh after "youtube"
I LOVE these videos! You don't speak too fast for me because I'm listening to what you're saying. Very informative!! You're hilarious too!
I wonder how it'd be like if my brain was squished between my kidneys😮😂😂
You guys are amazing! Studying for Nursing School entrance exam. Off the hook helpful! Mahalo Nui !
2 hours before the exam. Here I am!😂
You guys should make study apps. I'd be willing to pay for one with the graphics and everything I'm sure you do. Your videos helped me in LPN school and now I'm using them to refresh for RN school. Thank you so much!
Took my teacher 3weeks and im still lost, 10min with u n im a freaking wiz
Let me tell you i haven't studied nor looked at anything with anatomy for 5 years, since high school. This is an amazing way to catch up! Thanks!
If a dropout student watched all your videos 3x a day every day then he/she would most likey have a higher IQ then 82% of the public high school students....
That's not how IQ works.
Not IQ. He'd probably be able to understand the information presented here really well than a lot of people in bog-standard school around the world.
HE'd probably also feel really bad about dropping out and would wish to study biology if he's genuinely interested.
(Why did I not take biology dammit)
Still great videos.
Writer Shard If you do, go for biomedicine instead of marine biology! XD
***** what can you do with a biomed degree? I've heard bad things (such as, there are very few carer options and your options for further education aren't that many either) but i am really interested in things like this >_
new crashcourse videos are the best things to wake up too!
3:33 Layers... OGRES HAVE LAYERS!
Can't argue with that
Lol shrek
Glad others thought of saying it.
I Genuinely enjoy Crash Course's content and I have learned and retained more information through these courses then any classes of my formal education.
why is there tater tots on taco Tuesday
You should always have tater tots, no matter the occasion!
because it's totally trendy
because it's totally trendy
My ems instructor just sent me a 46 video Playlist
😂, and said "make sure you learn this". Thanks for making it easy to understand.... My head would explode otherwise
As a mushy pile of unarticulated goo, I found this video offensive.
What? They assumed your...uh...hmmmm...that is pretty offensive.
😂😂😂
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Are you high on meth?
I don't get it
I love the animations of all your videos!!! Like the little you being thrown out... Right on your desk! Hilarious, makes me enjoy what I'm learning. (or rather reviewing) Thank you!
