Being born on an island and being the son of a light keeper I loved loved island living. It was a wonderful way to spend a childhood.
Wow that is very interesting!
It would be awesome to hear your story!
If you like being alone and hate people, then this is the job for you.
I like being alone, but I love people (except politicians) and I would love being a lighthouse keeper,
Then a pandemic comes along and your views on isolation change
Where do I sign?
@@ingibingi2000 true
they're not alone they have each other
I'm not sure which I'm more in love with, the idea of living in a lighthouse or their French accents.
Am so faccinated by light houses it's just give me this nostalgic type of feeling
Miles away from human stupidity, surrounded by pure nature.
My dream job
Very quiet , full of fresh air and nature, wonderful place for daily living...😍😍
Awesome life. Only people that are truly happy in themselves can live this life or with a spouse. 🌞
surronded by the sea could be the cure of depression

Back in the day, lighthouse keepers were elected to their positions.
Lol
One of the coolest experiences, I grew up in one
On the U.S. side of the straight of juan de fuca, there's a Lighthouse called Dungeness Lighthouse. They have a keepers program where you can stay there and take care of the lighthouse while acting as tour guide for visitors (only hikers, depending on weather). My family attempted to do it, but they don't allow kids under 6 years old. So we are holding that one for when kids are older. Looks like an awesome time though.
did you get to do it?
Very cool. I worked a little while in Victoria and after at least a 12 hour shift I would walk down to the sea every night. It was so engaging and interesting. I wish I could get a job to walk along the coast there.
2:27 that's one bright light bulb, even though it's supposed to be bright.
What a wonderful, wonderful life.
Qqa
Isolation...that's for me.
You must love what is happening now then
This aged badly 😭
I would love to do that! I would need teaching but I would love to learn

"Also home to some elephant seals, some tipping the scales at 4000 lbs"
Wow, way to fat-shame the seals bro 😒
Sign me up!!
Drop me of there n I would b so happy
Checkered landmark? Stripped surely...
Lmao!
If lighthouses were moved well inland and close to built-up areas then they would:
(a) be MUCH cheaper to build. Easier access for materials.
(b) provide convenient accomodation for the keepers.
(c) provide lighthouse services to the more important city dwellers.
I do not seek reward for this breakthrough, but perhaps some kind of recognition would be fitting.
You are welcome.
you have completely missed the point of a lighthouse - it’s out at sea to guide ships in - if it were inland they wouldn’t see it . Why the hell would city dwellers need a lighthouse genuinely have no idea what they would use it for ?
Can't tell if you're just a troll or if you're actually serious 🧐
gave me the keys im moving in lol
Danni Garland give*
spekusk No they actually gave him the keys and he moved in. They're in France now.

Too bad lighthouses are automated now
There are still 27 Lighthouses in BC and 23 on the east coast that have full time keepers.
