  • In this video, I take you on a two-minute journey of underwater forest bathing at one of the coral reefs in Soma Bay on the Egyptian coast of the Red Sea. Soma Bay in the Red Sea, Egypt, is considered one of the outstanding snorkeling destinations worldwide, seamlessly blending vacation and water sports. The Red Sea, connecting the Mediterranean with the Indian Ocean, is renowned for its numerous reefs, providing ideal conditions for snorkelers.
The coasts of the Red Sea stretch along Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Israel to the north, as well as Eritrea, Sudan, and Yemen to the south. While a significant part of the coast belongs to Saudi Arabia, Egypt is better developed as a tourist region.
The water temperature in the Red Sea is optimal throughout the year. In summer, the average temperature is around 26°C in the north and 30°C in the south. Even in winter, it only minimally drops, rarely going below 22°C.
These consistent water temperatures promote the formation of corals, providing a home for numerous animals such as turtles, parrotfish, pufferfish, and moray eels. My snorkeling experience led me to Soma Bay, an Egyptian bay south of Hurghada and north of Safaga.
Soma Bay is formed by an approximately ten-square-kilometer peninsula called Ras Abu Soma, originally a habitat for rare bird species and turtles. An ideal place to explore the fascinating world of snorkeling in the Red Sea.
