  • Caste discrimination has existed in South Asia for centuries and now increasing instances are reported in the United States too. It’s prompted Seattle to ban any discrimination on the basis of caste. It's the first US city to do so and it's divided opinion across the diaspora.

Great move by Seattle 👍 In fact, as caste is the backbone of the Hindu arranged marriage system, it should also be recognised as a form of institutionalised eugenics (genetic discrimination) that prevents natural genetic mixing of humans within India, and wherever the Hindu diaspora has carried on with this practice. Intercaste marriages are discouraged by Hindu families even in 'modern' India, and intercaste couples often face social ostracism in rural India. In extreme cases intercaste couples are killed by their own family members for bringing the shame of individualisic thinking upon their conservative collectivist-oriented traditional families.
Those who oppose intercaste marriage in principle clearly do not accept individual choice in finding one's life partner.
Hopefully the younger generations of Indians will eventually be able to think independently about this discriminatory system.

They have done very well and they are a peaceful community but inside the community there are these divisions which are not apparent to the bigger society as a whole and hence such discrimination keep happening. Awareness is the first step to mitigate and overturn ills of a society. Hopefully Hindu expats keep their peace, tolerant nature not just while dealing with other communities in the West but also among themselves.

Actually there is complete mixing here ....
And Here They have Actually played with caste ....
      There are Two Solid Categories
Brahims General and SCs and ST's
      Now
      There is a 3rd Category of OBC's
My Surname is OBC in India's Uttar Pradesh
      But
      General in Another state Uttarakhand
The People who may share common surname may belong to completely different Caste group .....
But surely couple of surnames can definitely help you to identify a particular caste
      Paswan - Dalits
      Sharma - Brahmin

She says that caste is a non-issue in the US and that she has never experienced or seen caste discrimination in India. If it is a non-issue then why oppose the regulation?? Just because she has not experienced it (considering that she is from the upper caste the chances of her experiencing it is nil) does not mean there are others who haven't experienced it.

In all fairness caste system is banned in the U.S. - it's simply an issue that hasn't had to come before the supreme court before to be clarified. It's utterly illegal to discriminate, it's simply that no one has made an issue of it in the courts so far. That said it certainly can't hurt to have the law on the books as it could encourage injured parties to come forward and sue to set a precedent.

Cast discrimination still exists and practiced in India. You can go anywhere in India you will find it. Wherever you go in India, you will find people who are more interested to know about your caste and then their behaviour towards you automatically changes. This discrimination training starts from home at very early stage of life by elders. This discrimination is like a cancer to the society.
