    This.
    This short alone is a representation of why I love animation so damn much. It's limitless possibilities as a tool for storytelling. This short tells us SO much without many words actually spoken. I was especially moved by the sequence of the mother seeing herself grow, remembering her young years, and then seeing the whole process again but with her son. Makes you see immediately that she understands him. And completely supports him. And it's all done with pure imaginative animation. Not a word spoken.
    Also, don't know if many will notice, but there are so many winks to Japanese animation in this short. From "My Neighbors the Yamadas", to the style and looseness of Masaaki Yuasa, to the similarity of the Character Designs by the ones of Taiyo Matsumoto (a Mangaka and Yuasa's frequent collaborator). This short is really an ode to animation itself, and to many of the works and artists that make it so rich as a medium. One of my favorites now.

    Love how they used the image of the sea and this guy leaving on boat. In french, we have lots of expressions (linked to the concepts of sea and sailing) to convey the idea of growing up and leaving one's home and family. "Nager dans le grand bain", "se jeter à l'eau", "larguer les amarres", "prendre le large"... very nice metaphorically.
    Also these dance moves are freakin' sick x'D

      @EctoplasMan 2 года назад +8

      @@MoonFantasizer C'est clair que ça rend le truc encore plus intéressant. C'était assez frappant, au début je me demandais si j'extrapolais pas un peu quand même mais y'a d'autres passages qui ont vraiment l'air de faire référence à ça (l'éclosion des mini-gars / tortues marines sur la plage par ex). Pour montrer que le gars est prêt à "mettre les voiles" et faire face aux obstacles... Y'a sûrement d'autres métaphores sympas à relever !

    Everything that comes out of Gobelins is unique and special and full of detail and energy.
    But this one...I can't pinpoint it. It moved me in ways that I didn't expect at all. It's was like, while I was scrutinizing the style and deconstructing the story, someone came up next to me and gently put a hand on my shoulder. It took me back to a different time in my life.
    Congratulations on breaking through an old critics obsessive analysis and making me feel something for a moment. This one really is art.

    Apakah ini kisah tentang seorang anak sulung dari sebuah keluarga sederhana yang tinggal didaerah yang jauh dari pusat kota, dan si anak sulung ini memiliki impian tentang merantau ke kota?
    Awalnya keluarga mereka memiliki keraguan untuk melepaskan si sulung, takut kehilangan karena anaknya akan pergi jauh dari keluarga, takut akan rasa rindu terlihat bagaimana si ayah yang bahkan memiliki niat untuk membuang jauh2 koper si anak sulung dengan tujuan agar si anak sulung tidak jadi berangkat, yang akhirnya digagalkan oleh si kakek.
    Ibunya juga mengalami kilas balik tentang masa kecil si sulung, dan...wajar jika keluarga ini cukup berat meninggalkan si anak sulung.
    Tapi, di adegan terakhir, tarian si kakek menjadi simbol perpisahan terakhir yang seolah-olah mengisyaratkan bahwa semuanya akan baik-baik saja.
    So warm. I do miss France-language animations though.

    I feel like in order to enter Gobelin's world, I have to exit the real world. Its such an experience and it never disappoints!

    This was such a technical marvel. The creator/s were showing off with so many of these shots and I'm so happy that they did. Gorgeous in every sense

    Celui m'a surpris et emporté émotionnellement graduellement. Le grand père est juste extra, et je n'ai pas pu m'empêcher d'avoir les yeux humides en même temps que le père de famille, étant loin des membres de ma famille. Beau boulot, j'ai beaucoup aimé. :)

    It's ncredible, made me cry inmediately and felt so related to it. Now, after almost two years being apart from my family.
