It took me a while to realize that Athena sent out Kokytos in particular because of its ability to gather raw material for her soul-manipulating projects.

    🎶Soul laid bare 🎶
    🎶Foul and fair🎶
🎶Unfold, one with the true divine🎶
    🎶By my guiding hand. 🎶
    🎶Perfected they stand 🎶
    🎶I won’t be denied.🎶
🎶You were mine, you were blind🎶
🎶A fool till the end, cast down forevermore🎶
    (I create)
🎶Manipulate your kind in my image🎶
🎶My chosen one, for you the time has come.🎶
    🎶The sun is setting.🎶
    🎶Say good night🎶
🎶To the weakness that you hide behind🎶
🎶Leaving the lies and the fear inside🎶
🎶Never once were you truly alive🎶
🎶So scream all you like, your God can’t hear you🎶
    🎶Pride. Greed.🎶
    🎶In mud thrive these seeds🎶
🎶Rotten and reeking, the fruits of your making🎶
    🎶Testify. Come take a bite🎶
    🎶Pride. Greed. Thirsty for war.🎶
🎶Twisted and Broken, and words left unspoken🎶
    🎶Journey’s end. As I ascend🎶
I don’t own the lyrics. Credit goes to hungrychad and Final Fantasy 14.

...why couldn't they have just ended it with Hephaistos...

    • @Hawkenwhacker
      @Hawkenwhacker Год назад +7

Which brings the question, why did you think the story was going to be based around Hephaistos? Was it due to the way he was introduced? Did that form an expectation in your mind on where the story was heading, only for that expectation to be shattered, leaving to a feeling of betrayal?

@@Hawkenwhacker What even is this comment lol? Expecting the story billed by SE and Yoshi-P themselves as revolving around Lahabrea to *actually* revolve around him is "setting one's expectations unreasonably high" now? A lot people see Pandaemonium T3 as lackluster tbh. Especially in the story department. Not letting Athena actually have agency for her actions with a making it a brainwashing via magick space crack rock was particularly egregious. Always gotta be an external reason, I guess....
How very much like a Lythism, this sounds. So very gaslighty.

      @@azatheeverchosen7615 Excuse me?
"What even is this comment lol?"
What? Do you find it confusing that I would ask him questions about something that I may be wrong about? Hmm. He has a voice. He knows how to use it and he's free to counter with what he feels strongly about. I may not agree with it and that's fine.
"Expecting the story billed by SE and Yoshi-P themselves as revolving around Lahabrea to *actually* revolve around him is "setting one's expectations unreasonably high" now?"
So we agree that it is, in fact, about expectations. Presumptions aside, I'll state the obvious. Is Lahabrea featured with this series of raid? Yes. Is he the main focus? Not quite. That distinction falls to the namesake of this raid and its facility, Pandæmonium; a facility where experiments are taking place on human and animals alike and the results thereof. Did this get lost on you, I wonder?
"A lot people see Pandaemonium T3 as lackluster tbh."
It would be erroneous to assume that a loud minority of the community equates to being a lot of people. This argument is otherwise irrelevant.
"Especially in the story department. Not letting Athena actually have agency for her actions with a making it a brainwashing via magick space crack rock was particularly egregious."
Terrible grammar aside, the overall raid can be boiled down to what happens when you give unlimited power to an object or an idea, and what happens when this object or idea, takes control. This is my perspective on it.
"Always gotta be an external reason, I guess...."
What does this even mean? Are you saying that external factors can't influence our behavior? Is this meant to imply that it's bad writing? Regardless of you're reasoning, there are a lot of examples in reality where external reasons do become the catalyst into why we take certain actions. I'll use a basic example to drive the point home.
In the US, school shootings are now common amongst young people. In certain cases, rejection by their object of affection brings up this anger. Unsure on how to resolve these conflicting emotions, they lash out causing lasting harm for themselves and others. This initial rejection may have spurred them into action, but it's the situation at home, an external factor, that has caused them such distress. It's possible that they weren't exposed to what genuine love looks or feels like. As a consequence, they intimately know how it feels to be rejected at their core and this can create a foundation molded by anger. We could go into a conversation about the morality of this situation but that's not the point. This is a situation where an external factor, the abusive household, hijacked the child's agency for self regulation. Alas, these truths are inconvenient.
*In the case of Athena, however, she gets **_high_** off of her desire to manipulate others' will. This feeling alone is enough of an extrinsic motivator to do so. This is reinforced in **_"Athena, the tireless one"_** when the lyrics for Hic Svnt Leones are used and the music reaches its crescendo.*
"How very much like a Lythism, this sounds. So very gaslighty."
      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@Hawkenwhacker no. in fact I expected that they'd bring out Athena to serve as the final antagonist. I hoped they wouldn't 'cause I greatly prefer incel Lahabrea over generic god(dess) wannabe scientist, and ultimately both of Hephaistos's boss fights were significantly more interesting than Athena's.

@@azatheeverchosen7615 To further elaborate, all the Heart of Sabik really did to Athena was break any constraints she had in regards to executing her plan. Her insanity and darkness was _always_ there in the background.
