Welcome Back! I totally agree with you! People in Japan are not as social with strangers and I do miss that part. However as an Introvert I really appreciate Japanese restaurants being Very introvert friendly. Also from what I have heard before is that you are not allowed to bring back the left overs back home because it will still be the restaurants responsibility if the customer get food poisoning from the left over. ( From my experience I was able to bring back some leftovers before in Japan but like you said the portions here are very small so never happens😅) All these topics are super great! Thank you for sharing! I recently moved to Tokyo/Chiba so would be great if you showcase cool places!
Thank you for the kind comment! With tourists re-entering Japan from next month, I’m planning to produce more videos about recommended spots in and around Tokyo:)
Haha… yes it is real. I am in North Carolina now. Flew out of Haneda on UA. Going back to Okinawa in a couple of weeks. I feel like a stranger in my home country.
i don't live in a foreign country, of course, but I feel exactly the way you do about the challenge of learning another language! when I decided to seriously start studying japanese it brought back a feeling of satisfaction I hadn't felt since I was studying italian in college. when I can intuit how a new piece of grammar works, or catch and understand a new phrase being spoken while i'm playing games in japanese, it's rewarding to me in a way that very little else is besides improving at art. it's exciting!
I’m so excited for you to start Japanese class! It’s going to be so much fun when you come back to Japan. Also, next time I’m home you and I can speak Japanese and nobody will understand us hehe
I still wear my mask. There's just probably 1 out of 20 people wearing their masks, unless they are old people or people genuinely still worried about covid. But Americans just got tired of wearing masks and worrying about covid, so they act like covid doesn't exist and rarely pretend to care about it.
I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your videos! :) I am an American currently living in Japan as well, and I am really curious to see the things that I will be surprised about when I visit home this summer xD
I totally enjoyed watching this upload. I am a Japanese ex-pat living in eastern Canada. Personally I do not think food portion sizes in North America are not as big as people say they are. I find some restaurant portions a bit too small for my taste even though those soft drink portions at fast food places etc. are huge! It is really interesting to see your perspective on both Japanese and American cultures!
@@OnTheWorldStage Speaking of perspectives, there are cultural as well as personal threshold differences between wit and umbrage, e.g. offering one's leftovers in any joke situation in Japan is not taken well.
OMG You're so right!!! The sweets in American are WAAAYY TOO SWEET!! I'm still not used to it! I used to live in Egypt a couple years back and when I moved to America, everything was too sweet and under seasoned! I dislike American food with every fiber in my body, I'm not even joking. That may sound extreme but the "desserts" in America are very very sweet, tastes like I'm eating blocks and blocks of sugar on top of gallons and gallons of artificial sweeteners. I'm so upset. The food in America is a big disappointment, honestly. (I'm American by the way)
I know, right? When I was in America this time, I didn’t even order any desserts (maybe only a few times) because I expected that I wasn’t going to like them…
Honestly, I feel how big our portions are in America when I don't eat out for a couple weeks and then I order food from a restaurant and I get through half of it. I'm always so shocked because I'm able to eat full meals at home but I realize I'm eating actual portions at home, regardless of what I'm eating.
I’ve always had a bit of social anxiety (even before Japan), but actually, my personality fits in perfectly with Japanese culture and people. Even when I am in Japan and meet a group of foreigners, I feel anxiety. Typically, I like to socialize with people one-on-one - foreigners and Japanese. Of course, I’ll always get along with my family and friends because they know me and I know them, but the noises and jokes can be overwhelming in a group.
@@OnTheWorldStage Anxiety… you mean, feeling the need to find topic, to talk to strangers? I guess… I'm the same but without the anxiety part… or maybe cus I don't meet enough strangers… 🤔 Before CV19, in the office, people who are close will come talk to me, or I share info with them. And when we don't have anything to share, we go back to our work. In the meeting... except presenter, most people are oddly quiet. Any question? **silent** Most Japanese mind their own business. Haha, guess, Japan is a comfortable place for people like us :p It's WFH all the waaaay after CV19. There are some newbies but... they aren't under my lead and they don't sit near me. Newer, deeper connections or encounters are just harder to come by these days I guess. Later on I find out I'm a INTJ-A. Guess It's in my DNA. I'm a lead game programmer btw. I enjoy my me time so I can focus on my study, experiments and build never-have-been-made tech aka my legacy (it's done and I'm using it to build my own game).
@@OnTheWorldStage btw, the restaurant story is so true. And in some restaurants, you don't even need to interact or say a word, you just grab a ticket, get a seat, eat, go XD I've been to LA for summer vacation when I was 9 or 10, cannot remember the portions size no more :p

So informative - and a good thesis topic! ❤

hope you can enjoy Sendai❗️
