Thanks for sharing! For anyone going through this - you can use a surgical face mask folded in half or in a third to hold the gauze under your nose so you don't break out with the tape

I had a septoplasty 3 days ago every day feels like a new type of pain. I felt pretty good yesterday but I've run out of pain pills and my teeth are hurting bad. This is the part that freaks me out!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Heyyy girl! Omg I was so scared of that too. I just remember them asking me about my holiday and then as I was talking she put the anaesthetic in and it burned. Nothing crazy, but like it was hot going through my arm and I remember saying “hey I can feel that”! I tried so hard to stay awake and keep blinking and next thing I know I was waking up. It was crazy coz I don’t actually remember falling asleep. It’s the strangest thing but not scary at all. They do their best to make you remain calm. You got this, all the best! Xx

Did you experience severe throat dryness when breathing through your nose after you could breath through your nose?
I have had surgery - septoplasty, turbinate reduction and sinus surgery, I’m now on day 10 of recovery. I can breathe through my nose now (although the inside of my nose feels very dry) but I’ve noticed that when I breath through my nose I get a very dry/sore throat (upper part of the throat that is linked to the back of your nose). Did you experience this? And if so how long did it last for?

    Hey there-Shornell,
I will be having the same thing, I have had sinus issues for 8 + half very long years-and whenever I did bring up about sinus issues not one of them mentioned about a CT/X-ray scan but when I had an MRI scan it did show my right side of my nose was perforated but nothing was said about that but about no tumours etc! 😡
BTW-I'm also from the UK in England so will be having th is all done via the NHS, Anyway had all these appointments cancelled due to Covid which was super annoying and would get burning sensation through my nose constantly for years-had my CT scan had my results from telephone today and said I have a cyst/Polyp in my right nostril under my eye and a misaligned septum!
So he was booking that and should be ready to sort out in a couple of months. 😁
I knew burning sensation was due to sinus infection but as it was constant for years and didn't go then knew that the crooked septum interferes with drainage of mucus from the sinuses into the nasal cavity, this can be a prime environment for bacteria to grow, leading to repeated episodes of infection and inflammation in these spaces!
Where in England you from- I'm in Kent between Dartford/Bexleyheath way!
Prob have it done at Queen Mary's Hospital-Sidcup or at Darent Valley-Dartford-update got told in a letter will be having it done at Darent Valley Hospital-how comes you got to go to a priv hospital?? lol

I had this all done today on the NHS, would have rather had the splints than dissolveable packing as dissolveablee just adds a really sticky substance of it's own to your mucus and dry scabs so the congestion is worse! I was told not to rinse by a doctor for a week, nearly 4 days in and I'm in A&E with an ENT doctor picking two hard dry blood scabs out of the entrance to my nostrils & secretions and debriment out of my nose that just sat there for days drying up under the packing, they told me I should have started rinsing as soon as! Suppose that's why you went private, you managed to avoid complications lol.

@@maryanndominguez9553 I’ve been really good, completely healed. The surgery itself went great but I ended up getting a fairly uncommon complication that made the first week of recovery utter hell. Uvular Necrosis, basically they cut off blood supply to my uvula when they put the breathing tube in. My uvula swelled up and then the bottom half proceeded to shrivel up, die, and fall off. Worst of all is that the anesthesiologist said that there’s good chance it’ll happen again when I inevitably get another surgery later in my life. Hang in there, after you get the splints removed and you can actually breathe through your nose, things get a hell of a lot easier.

I felt the same. Im one day 2 after surgery. I have bad anxiety too. Deep breathing helps alot. Try not to focus on it so much and you'll be okay. The days go quickly, and it'll be all in the past before you know it. Good luck

How quickly did your taste/ sense of smell come back? X

My sense of smell didn’t really go, it was more of the fact that the gauze was under my nose 24/7. Whenever that was off my sense of smell was fine. In terms of taste probably about a week
