Thank you so much for this video! Just watched your reviews and ended up getting the Gaming Trunk Frost Tavern (the one that had the sus website, though as of October 2024 I had no issues with it). I got both the Frost Tavern and the Lion Jaw organizers, and both came in at very high quality. I habitually sleeve all of my cards, so having an organizer that would hold sleeved cards was huge for me. I figure I can give you my opinion on the organizer as an end user. The laser cut is very precise, and each piece has two small contact points sticking it to the wood frame, so you need an X-Acto, but only for a very small amount to separate the piece from the board (by design to keep the piece connected until you're ready to separate it). Everything went together with a rubber mallet, and I didn't need glue (though I used some at strategic points just to be safe). Both are very well engineered in terms of construction/tolerances and just efficient use of space, and the JOTL has separate cases for each character (something you'll like). I'm very happy with my purchase!
@@filmprofmark The general organization is very well thought out. All overlay tiles, monsters and tokens are divided very well with their own compartment and having the tokens in seperate trays makes the handling quite nice on a already filled table. Also not having to use the character tuck boxes and instead having a character tray for all your cards and modifier decks is awesome! The main downside in my opinion is how the boss standees are just all thrown into their box and having no real separation between boss stat cards/monster stat cards and the big stat sleeves where you collect the monster damage. Also one minor thing, yes you can use the card dividers provided in the main game.... mostly ^^" You can only use those printed in landscape format, those printed vertically like the "available town guard modifier" don't fit into the organizer. It's only 4 cards or so, but still, it bugged me a little. Btw your point about the monsters with only one card deck being separated isn't how you might thought it is. There are 3 big monster compartmens and 2 smaller compartments. Those 2 smaller compartments hold all the monsters sharing a single deck, so you find them very fast because they are right next to each other :) So for example one of those containers holds all 3 imps and all 3 scout monsters nonetheless i think from your review this is the best organizer out there for this game. Also it is very cheap with only 60€ compared to almost double the price of the laserox :p Assembly took a while and it can be a puzzle, but the quality of the parts is great!
How are you feeling about Frosthaven and the organizer now, months later? I originally backed everything - including the LaserOx organizer - and made the "mistake" of sleeving almost everything right away, so that the cards are _very_ tight in the organizer and I've actually got some overflow into other containers. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I preferred both the Broken Token organizer for Gloomhaven and the old official app (I use the new official and/or X-Haven now), and without those two things for Frosthaven I've found the game way more frustrating to manage. I think I'll wait for the next haven game to hit retail, skip sleeves, and do more research on organizer options.
Interesting question, how I feel after extended playing time. I'll preface my comments with the reminder that my situation is not everyone's, particularly in that I have a permanently setup FH table so am not putting everything in and out of the box all the time, and unlike when I played GH have the same people playing the same characters so we're not swapping characters every session (in that area my GH experience was probably the outlier while sticking with the same party is probably more the norm). So because I leave everything set up, I don't really have much experience in getting the game fully in and out of the box. I am still generally liking how the monsters are laid out in the LaserOx organizer, have found this pretty convenient and quick to set up new scenarios. And I also like how most of the other tokens are organized, particularly the damage and condition tokens where it's always pretty quick to find and grab what I need. The more I play the more I'm missing my GH go7gaming organizer in terms of how it handles the *cards* (esp. items) as the LaserOx one I feel like every time we need a card it's kind of digging through to find the right section and right thing. Maybe I need to make my own tabs/dividers to improve this, but it's noticeably worse than the go7 one I had for GH. My other learned-with-use minor gripe about the LaserOx organizer is that while it went together easily without glue and basically held together initially that way, with more use I found a few of the organizer boxes started loosening or completely coming apart and DID need to actually be glued to stay together. On the one hand that's a bit obnoxious when I've had to pull out glue and repair a few boxes after I thought I was done making the organizer; on the other hand most have held up and it got me going in the first place a LOT quicker than the go7 one where I had to glue everything on the front end before they could be used at all. So maybe a wash overall on that aspect, but worth noting. The last thing which is probably independent of which organizer you use is simply that there's SO MUCH that it's cumbersome regardless of organization system. To be honest I think in terms of gameplay and balance, and particularly to the sense of an ongoing campaign and world-building, FH fixed what needed fixing from GH and made a lot of improvements... BUT I think it also went with a "more is more'" approach and could've been as satisfying with a few less pieces/parts, closer to the size of GH rather than going a full 50% bigger on, well, everything. Can't say that I'll still feel that way for sure after completing the whole campaign, but so far I've found a couple things where it feels like maybe that added component makes the game 0.01% better but that marginal improvement is not worth the added storage / organization / just-being-able-to-find-what-you-need difficulty. Hope that's helpful. TL;DR is that I'm still overall fine with the LaserOx organizer, and having reviewed all the others I'm not sure I would've done anything different if I had it to buy over again, but the more you play with any organizer the more aware you are of both its strengths and weaknesses.
@@filmprofmark The construction wasn't a great process, but I can forgive that. My biggest issues are: 1. Sleeved cards are packed incredibly tight. So tight in some instances that I broke the glued portions just to make my life easier. 2. The monster ability decks are frustrating to use. No markers. Tightly packed. Unwieldy. 3. Vertical storage of the map flair isn't great but not as bad as the cards. 4. Maybe not a fault in design, but because some cards are stored vertically and some horizontally, buying extra dividers can be costly. They do a lot of things right, but the annoyances are on a per game basis rather than per session, which is a bit easier to deal with
17:15 Actually, the back of the setup pamphlet tells you to put the monster ability cards in the baggies with the standees and initiative markers. "add the initiative order tokens and the eight-card sets of monster ability cards with that name to the bag containing the monster standees with that illustration." This makes fitting all the plastic baggies a fair bit harder if you don't invest in some external add-on storage solution.
good point. So that sorts of solves one problem while creating another. I'd also worry about the cards getting bent up being just in baggies with the standees and the baggies thrown on top of everything.
@@filmprofmark Yeah, I could even see someone explicitly choosing not to put the monster ability cards in the bags for that reason. That E-Raptor one looked pretty nice, but between getting the Folded Space organizer from kickstarter and our group deciding to use X-Haven Assistant to manage monster abilities, status effects, and the like, I can't justify buying another one. Thanks for the overview! It was super informative.
Super disappointed with shelfsides organizer review. Gave zero usable info and spent the whole time hating on the idea of organizers. Love to see this video answer all my questions
Yeah I was kind of hoping not to make a Frosthaven organizers review that someone would've already made a good one, but that was one of the ones I watched and then was like "well I guess I do need one for people who actually want info about the organizers instead of just someone ranting with what seemed to be a personal vendetta against the whole idea of organizers."
Tried to run this through Google Translate and *seems* like the comment is that the included organizer is the best option? I definitely think it has it's plusses which was why included here, but would argue depending on your specific needs and preferences other options may be better for some. I'm personally glad I got another one that provides more organization than the included insert alone. Now whether it's worth it to someone to pay for another potentially better organizer when the included one is sufficient to play the game is more a question of value, and everyone will have their own calculations there.
