What great fun to ride the strassenbahn again! Lived in Frankfurt/Ginnheim (Platenstrasse) 1976-1979. Watched the "Ginnheim Asparagus" being built, went up to top shortly after it opened!
I spent my childhood in Ginnheim. We were among the first families who moved into the former housing area after the US Military left. I can't imagine how the area would look like without the "Ginnheim Aspargus".
When we first got to Frankfurt in '76, the "asparagus" looked like a fair size chimney. Watching it grow and the crane go up as it went was fascinating, watching them bring the crane down was an equally interesting bit of engineering
