    Great video. I just picked up my folks 1988 big bear . I have many wonderful memories riding that old quad . It is in really good condition for 36 years old and needs minor repairs and maintenance. The videos on your machine have been very helpful. 👍

    You should do a video on adjusting the clutches. That'd be a good one

      Yes I do. It's part of another video when I was working on the old faithful. I can't remember exactly what it was. Maybe I'll make one separately

    I found another oil leak on the Vstar. Front cylinder above the exhaust pipe. I dumped out the gas and replaced with new. Probably going to flush the brake fluid, change the rear gear oil, and order some parts this week.

      Sucks to hear about the oil leak. Replacing all the fluids is a good idea based on mileage and year. Gonna be a fun ride next summer!

      @@thehonestmechanic yes. You should get a bike too! I might do a couple oil changes.

      I have made a Shorts video to showcase how to start a Big Bear with the manual recoil. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/user/shortsDplFDu8Alpg?feature=share

    Just curious my big bear runs and starts fine, adjusted the valves to spec. But the timing chain sprocket is slightly clockwise from the timing mark. If I tighten the chain adjuster it'll push the line more clockwise away from the proper aligmnet.

      @thehonestmechanic  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your support! I'll do some investigating and try to find out what you may have here. It sounds like the chain is worn and causing a slight offset. If memory serves, the chain tension is set automatically. I think if the marks are within a few thousands, it should be good

      @@thehonestmechanicah makes sense, thank you.
      If I’m replacing the chain would it be worthwhile just doing a whole new top end? Since it’ll all be off anyways

      I would definitely inspect all the components. I would do new rings and reseal the valves if they are good. I wouldn't change the piston unless necessary. New valve seals and new gaskets of course. Every build is different and it depends what you are after. My builds are usually more budget friendly....😉

      Another note, the top end does not have to come apart to replace the chain

      I would do a leak down test. Sounds like your piston rings may be worn excessively
