I’ve always done well at this venue in the area you moved to for the Carp. It is snaggy, but that’s why the Carp seem to frequent that area. Regarding the ‘line discussion’, fully agree with what you’re saying about diameter. For me, stretch is an important part of using mono, and unless you go to extremes, diameter is fairly irrelevant. Tackle companies spout so much bullsh*t about renewing certain items (of course, it’s in their ‘profit’ interest to do so). Their ‘experts’ & ‘sponsored anglers’ recommend you renew your reel line at least (depending on amount of use) once a year? I’ve had line on some of my reels for 10yrs (stored in a reel case, with no exposure to sun/daylight) & the line is still perfect & meets the quoted breaking strain. If only more anglers sat & thought about some of the rubbish they hear from tackle companies & reasoned it logically - instead of spending/wasting unnecessary money. As the saying goes, rods/reels/line/hooks/general tackle accessories catch more anglers than fish!🤔 All orchestrated by the sales teams of large/profitable tackle makers. Anyway, great days fishing, & great video as always. Wrightington is one of my favourite North West venues.👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎣
Carp will definitely love being in and out of those snags. I agree a lot of big company RUclips channels are designed around getting you to spend money on things that you don’t need. We have all fallen foul of it at one point or another. I tend to change my line every year but that’s because of how often I’m on the bank! But they would have us changing to 5/6lb line in the winter then 8lb in the summer 😂 your not telling me that a fish can see the difference of 0.03. Fishing is such a touchy area everyone has there own ideas of how to do things, truthfully there is no right or wrong. Folk should what works best for them and stick to that method 🎣🐟👍🏻 thanks for taking the time to write us that comment Ken !
@@WestysAngling All the Carp in my local lakes carry micrometers & only bite on lines of 0.22 & below!😏🤣🤣🤣 Fully agree with your philosophy Westy, use & buy what suits you & stick with it if it’s successful👍🏻
Hey dude, went to wrightington today with the old man and had a really good day. Ended up on the Rivington lake started almost in the same place as where you guys were dad got a nice carp and I got 2 bream and a large roach. Went a bit slow so moved down to the far end and I got 3 carp from 7-9lb and I had one snap off. I was using float and method feeder. Really can recommend this place enough definitely going back in a couple of weeks
That’s absolutely brilliant ! I think some fish have certainly moved into the shallows this week because of the mild weather so that doesn’t surprise me that you had a good session down the far end. I’m glad you had a good session off the back of my videos ! Tight lines 👌🏻🎣
great video matt and dad.....perfect example showing that keeping ya eye on the water..and using ya watercraft..combined with willing to move to catch the fish!...tight lines to ya both until ya next one!...
Hi been watching yor vids . Great stuff . See you loose quite a few method feeders . Wouldn’t it be an idea to tie one or two tiny zip ties to the feeder stem through the holes in the back of feeder . Might save a few quid .sell em in poundland 😊
By the way I have been watching your channel for a while now ,but only just subscribed don’t know why it took me so long ,I do tend to use a lot of the Preston gear but do like a lot of the gear you use, carry on making the videos mate they are brilliant
I really appreciate this comment ! There is plenty more to come this year. I like Preston innovations stuff it’s high quality also their sister company Korum. Very good gear 👍🏻👌🏻
You’re welcome mate ,Manchester bloke here ,I’m definitely going to try some of the lakes you have been on ,all new to me around the Wigan Chorley area .
If you are looking for a good carp bait to try, either use the pineapple crush or the strawberry cream Instant action nash boilies, probably either 10-12mm in winter time, great bait with either a loose feed of boilies or a pva bag of pellets or crushed boilies
Another great video mate the ridgemonkey box your dad as got looks good but I didn't get on with it some compartments to tight to open I found korda better keep videos coming mate 👍
Quite correct some compartments I struggle to open. Tight but also not enough of a gap to get your fingers at the clasp. I just hope with time & use they free up a bit.
Never had any of the Preston method come off, this is not saying you are doing something wrong as your set up is totally correct must just be caused by the fish bolting off, another great video.I would like to see you do a video at pheasants wood up near out Rawcliffe great fishery cafe and toilets on site,I travel from Bolton to there quite regularly.
I had a chat to my Dad about this David and I think because I have my rods pre made up in my bag they potentially become loose as I have had it with the Preston ones also ! I need to get in the habit of tightening them back on the stems before I start fishing 🎣 I will put it on the list ! 👍🏻👌🏻🐟
I use the same feeders and must admit I’ve never had one come of, as Matt said we think they are coming loose in the rod bag. He needs to check them before starting fishing.
Fyi pheasants wood fishery is gorgeous. Need to fish tight to the reeds for them big carp tho. Wouldnt mind having a go on the specimen pond next time i go
Great to see you both catcing again! Love Wrightington, it's such a nice fishery. I fished the exact same peg as you a few weeks ago. Caught a few on the pink wafter, including a lovely couple of tench. Although I managed to do what you didn't and lost a feeder in that big oak tree...note to self, more practice needed on the casting!!
Great vid once again , as for the product you review, I bought the korum groundbait bowl and the prodigy tackle bag …… I didn’t even need them 😂😂😂😂 but so glad I did …. You should get some sponsorship 😊😊
Nice 1 mate 👍 Wud just say that heavier feeders do lose more smaller fish. Think its just the weight swinging about that pulls the hook out 🥴 Also cant get my head around you netting fish with your right hand? 🤔So you av to keep swapping hands to use the reel 😉 Still a nice days fishing. Look forward to your next one 👍👍
@@WestysAngling went yesterday. Nice looking pond. Fishing Wasn’t the best on there. Pretty hard day. Bream came out in full force. Later afternoon managed to get a few carp to save the day. Will try main lake when no matches on.
Hi there great vids as always 😊 did I hear you correctly you switched hooks from korum to Preston's ? Have you tried the preston mcm-b or the guru qm1's
Don’t get me started on QM1’s 😂 my dad loves them I’m not keen myself. The mcm-bs are similar aren’t they ? I prefer a wider gape between the hookpoint and shank ! But dad does ok on them 👍🏻🎣
Good work with the vids mate ! This is my own experience / what I have found... Personally in winter I've always done best in the shallows (day time) I believe this is due to the shallower water warms up faster... The only time I've found deeper water to be better is at night as the deeper water will hold some heat or when it's extremely cold and they have almost gotten stuck as the cold can put them into a deep sleep. Give it ago... anything above 5 degrees I've always had better luck in the shallower part of the lakes as it warms up faster... What are your thoughts ?
On the landing net mesh did the bait stop or hook or even wafters get caught up at any time or drop through I'm presuming it's the hair mesh landing net that's meant for feeder fishing
Great venue, like you I prefer the top lake and have had some memorable days there. Out of interest what area of Manchester are you from as you don't have a strong manc accent.
Oxtail soup poured at height into the (margins Summer time ) Float fished or a good size square inline bomb,in my experience is defo in my rep, again NO feed, use a enterprise bait band gizmo 👍👍👍 with a nice halibut pellet, and hold on baby 💥👍🦉

Looks a fantastic venue to fish👌
On the net side of things - do you not have to dip them prior to fishing?
No net dip there buddy ! And it sad literally out the packet brand new 😂👍🏻

I blanked here end of November pissed it down too 🤣🤣🤣 wasn’t happy
Ahhh mate you got unlucky 😩
🔥🔥🔥
Have you thought of using soft paste on the hook for the iffy bites?
I think I would use bread flake in that scenario ! I have tried it in the past on the float 👍🏻🎣
I have the same nets . I like it but not for Bream , if you forget to clean them , it stinks from high heaven . I am a tinca hunter !
Have you fished on the horseshoe at wrightington? Tried getting on main lake but booked for a match.
Yes but I have never done as well on there
