Hey its bakerXderek! Kinda funny to see you on this channel. Definitely looked and sounded like a bong hit, 10/10 perfect. If only he took a hit of an ecig or something while he was down there just to fuck with people xD
FX 8350 - which i had at 4.7ghz 1.47v eventually clcoked back to 4.5ghz 1.45v - and y can confirm no heater needed especially when paired with 2 watercooled R9 290s
Well so much i had to add in my old 750 watt bronze psu to feed my mobo and use my 850watt gold to feed the gpus (couldn't be arsed to buy a new 300+ euro psu)
I've been dealing with whiney, unreliable DDCs since before pwm fans and pumps were a thing. I just really don't like that pump and only use it when I really have to..
+LinusTechTips oh, my bad. I mistakenly thought you were referring to the DDC pwm pump combo offered by ekwb. Awesome channel btw. Thank as for replying :)
+LinusTechTips I would like to see a video on the more unconventional tools you use like those knives, not really your channels focus but others might too.
having someone talk while they are doing similar work, about the work... helps a lot. I run a shop in Ballard - Seattle called PC FIX, and being located in a brick-n-mortor small shop... I have the occasional walk-in customer, but usually by myself most of the time working on stuff and listening to music. Music only gets you so far without some sort of conversation or alternative mind-stimulation while you work alone, your videos are a great way to keep up-to-date and keep busy at work. Keep the TEAR-DOWNs coming!
+overTIMe Background noise & half paying attention while getting ready for work this morning here. 1hr long shows that don't require constant eye-attention are something I love most about RUclips.

watching the whole video after the fact that it isn't live anymore, that is being a pro subscriber!! and btw it was one of the most fun 1 and a half hour in my life :D we definitely need more of these Linus :)
+iBoolGuy it's kind of very special stuff, it sometime born by itself, if you tr to re-create the same then probably magic dispell and you got nothing. We shoud appreciate current moment and not depend on a future. Oh shi what a speech
Imperfect videos is what makes them perfect. This is why your videos are interesting. And I like that setup, no distracting rubbish behind you, just plain wall with a modern abstract painting. We can just focus on what you are doing. And if you could mount that webcam on a flexible long arm for mobile phones or something, that would be cool.
Just for future reference, when removing the SSD's that are double sided taped in, I have used a 3 inch wide putty knife. It is flexible and can be taped in with a rubber mallet. I do that with 8 amp batteries in fire alarm systems.
I know this video was uploaded over 2 years ago, but some people may find this helpful when using double-sided tape. The best tool to use is a small putty knife or similar flat blade item. Using a flat blade will lessen the possibility of damage to both the item that you are trying to remove and the area of the mounting spot. The tape Linus is using looks like the same tape I use, Scotch’s Permanent Double Sided Extreme Mounting Tape for items up to 20lbs. When you first put the strips of tape on, they seem to not stick all that well. There might be a curing phase or something like that, because when it comes time to remove, whatever it is you want removed, becomes a nightmare! Because most items will bend if you try to pull it off whatever it was stuck to. So to minimize bending or breaking anything that you used double-sided tape on. I would recommend, again, a flat blade putty knife or if no putty knife on hand look and see if you have a cake spatula spreader in the kitchen. One advantage over the putty knife is the spreader is very flexible, and helps in tight spaces to work with, or just use Velcro!
About your comment on the adhesive home depot velcro tape. I used it for my fastrak box in my car to hold on my windshield, I noticed it too failed and would come detached from the glass.. I figured out the stuff doesn't work with heat any longer(never had that problem before with older versions of tape). So once my car would sit in the la heat of a parking lot it would heat up the car, sapify the adhesive, and the stuff would just fail.
I've never seen a water cooled PC disassembled. And, I really enjoyed hearing you talk about the issues that you have. You normally don't talk much about that. Those are the small details that are hard to learn about. For instance, I seriously considered building a workstation with Windows 10 running on top of unRAID. But, I learned that running a virtual machine like that can have many issues that I didn't want to deal with; having to disable sleep in the VMs was one such issue. So, I'm building a workstation for work and a separate server running FreeNAS for the NAS.
"long story about why I had to wash a gpu..." hmmm sounds like someone got a little too excited over a powerful processor. It's okay, Linus, we've all been there.
I had a group of computers submerged under 6 feet of water for a day during a flood. I pulled them out of the water the next day and let them sit and dry for a month. They all worked just fine as if nothing had happened. One of them was still plugged in with power when I retrieved it. As for why you would build your daughter a monster computer, is very easy to answer. Because she is worth it. Nothing else needs to be said about that. I got my son a computer many times faster then my own during his childhood. Now he is a programmer making 6 figures. Trust me, it's totally worth it.
dude you literaly have the one job i would love to be a part of. making cool and crazy types of gaming rigs with crazy parts for crazy reasons. hopefully all our future goals come true.
Just use quick connects/disconects, thumbscrews, velcro, and a a drainport, that can be just a quick disconnect out on the lower part of the loop, would sabe a LOT of time building and taking a part!
mate! do this thing more often! not only is it interesting to watch the deconstruction of one of your maniacal creations, but i love the live aspect of it. its like watching a blooper real as im watching the content, which in most cases would be absolutely terrible, but in your case, its great and goes along well with that quirky weird but amazing canadian humour! it might be a little niche audience but i reckon its great! and i mean, if you gotta disassemble all of your rigs on the channel, well you may as well film it right!?
Linus, USB 3.0 headers are notorious for slipping out of the housing, so some motherboard manufacturers have implemented tiny clips on the sides inside the plastic shroud that surrounds the pins. I remember the 1st time I encountered this, I did the same thing. Now I know that you have to take a precision flathead (my preference) and, using the 3.0 header as leverage, push the tiny, nearly invisible clip ever so slightly aside, and then pull the header out with ease. Usually there's one on each side of the notch in the middle used to key the connection.
Also he said that some of the stuff in it has to be sent back to the sponsors. Yes some items are sent (leased) to them by companies so LTS showcase them.
Instead of double sided tape, use strong velcro strips that have no adhesive, use your double sided tape to fasten them if that is more secure than the velcro adhesive and you get the best of both worlds.
Nexttime use a clothing iron, and heat the bottom of the case on a low temperature. The adhesive will come loose very easy. For the adhesive in between the drives, use ablowdryer. Thanx for your helping videos, greetz Frits.
hm. "central processing unit".. is a funny description.. or name? Is a cpu a cpu? or is a tower a cpu? if a tower is a cpu and it has 2 cpus inside of it? I am in inclined to call anything that is central to anything else a cpu.. what? lol

+LightningShock Yeah, I worried about him bumping it and it fall to the floor for nearly the entire video. But then kinda disappointed when it actually didn't happen.
@Linus Tech Tips For future reference, disabling low light compensation in webcam settings in OBS increases the frame rate significantly while making it maybe 10% dimmer.
32:56- 35:05 if anyone ever builds another multi card system on that scale, make sure you crazy glue a thin strip of plastic with a single tab on it across all seven (or however many you use) GPU release tabs. this will give you one thing to press for all 7 (or however many you use) cards at once...

Just a "correction" the DDC whines due to the pwm function and fails for the same reason. If it runs at steady rpm it's quite and lasts longer.
I've been dealing with whiney, unreliable DDCs since before pwm fans and pumps were a thing. I just really don't like that pump and only use it when I really have to..
