Let's take a look at the evolution of the Women's Marathon from its debut in Los Angeles 1984 to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In 1984, the event had only 50 participants from 28 countries, with 44 completing the race. Joan Benoit 🇺🇸 from the United States emerged as the victor, completing the marathon in 2:24:52 h. Fast forward to Tokyo 2020, where 73 women completed the marathon. Peres Jepchirchir 🇰🇪 of Kenya secured the gold medal in the Women's Marathon Final with a time of 2:27:20 h.
