We’ve had 3 of them and every one has had 650,000 miles on them (Or more) the one we have now is just over 715,000 and it’s pulled big rigs, the first one we had had a minor Downpipe leak. But they also hold their value. The first one we bought we paid $9500 for it and when a f-750 rear ended me the insurance company paid off $12,500. A little known fact is that they have a steel pipe in the door. It saved me and my workers life in a jackknife with a gooseneck on the back. 15,000 lb load and the steel bars on the front punctured the door in three different places. The frame was bent and the truck still made it home (7.5 hours away) we just bulletproofed a 6.0 and it’s a dually (our first dually pick up)

If you get one of these trucks, before you do any go fast or look good mods or tech upgrades, just spend the $ on maintenance and servicing first. Take a couple thousand and just invest it back into the truck on things like, all fluids and filters replaced/flushed, water pump (thermostat and housing too), CPS, ICP, IPR, bellowed up pipes, intake plenums, EBP sensor and tube, passenger side head fuel line, front wheel bearings, sway bar end links and bushings (front and rear), steering box, tie rods, drag link, pitman arm, dip stick oil pan seal, blah blah blah.

7.3 (aka Navistar 444E) has the most durable long block on the market. It was designed for a savage duty cycle: either a commercial Class V or a school bus. Start-and-stop. Start-and-stop. All day long. Most commercial users get 800,000 miles out of them with good maintenance. Mine has 355,000 miles. I'm the original owner. I spec'd it out from the factory. Don't know if you solved this yet but the arm rest is an easy fix. At least on the E350 (I think it's the same) the armrest cover folds open in the back and there's a screw with a T45 head. Just tighten it down and it fixes the arm rest good as new.
My dad has a 99 f350 with the v10. Pretty much same truck besides the motor. That truck is in suck great shape. Motor has 215k for a gas motor it still run great. Interior is in great shape. Just need new driver and passenger seats. The leather is shot and the foam is almost completely gone.

These trucks were built during an era when Ford mostly did it right with the build quality and reliability, and before the trucks became overly complicated and expensive, so these will always be good trucks.
Been around this version of the interior on ford trucks almost since they were released and just love them more as time goes on. But I’ve never seen a broken armrest, must have one big ol friend to break one...
I’d say your rubbing issue might be due to the rims not being spaced out enough, cuz them look like plus offset rims. That said you’ve got a nice truck.
Everyone has there own preferences. I just bought a 2000 F350 7.3 with over 460,000 miles on the body and yes, the interior is better quality if you compare it to second gen dodge trucks, but let’s not be hating on the 12 Valve Cummins.

Driving a lot of road miles, I used to be a MPG nut. May have to become one once again, seeing what the government is doing with fuel prices. The manual transmission helps a bunch. I put a 3.08 R&P set in it as well as a Gear Vendor 20% electric overdrive. On OEM-sized rubber (the best for MPG) the trucks runs down the Interstate (70 MPH) ticking over 1325 RPM and 600 degrees EGT. Driving the posted limit I get 24 MPG without a tonneau. 25-26 with a tonneau and with a homemade "fastback" top I coaxed 28.5 out of it
I get about 15-18 mpg completely stock non lifted beside a AFE intake driving 70mph maybe even 20mpg if u do 55mph and control your roll and stop I know cause when I’m broke and low on fuel I do that
funny part about diesel's if you want better fuel economy is to crank up the power bigger injectors , hot tunes, and delete that worthless cat cause diesel burns to cool to make it work anyhow

Hell yeah. Great vid. I just bout a 99 250 with only 76,000. I’ll have this truck for the rest of my life and then give it to my son!
76,000...my 99 just rolled over 409,000 this weekend. Jealous am I. Have fun!
@@showmethetruth74 how’s your run I’m getting ready to buy a 2000 250 with 201k miles on it has different injectors turbo work country lift 4 inch and ts performance chip 6k hope it’s good deal seems like it
I have an 01 heavily modified with turbo injectors tunes 4 inch lift 35’s- I get 16.8 MPG on the highway and 13 in town. I drive like a grandpa.... 373s as well.
I picked up an E99 7.3 F250 in 2021. Other than catching up on a few maintenance items that the prior owner let slide, the old girl has been great!
That’s good. Not all of them are that easy
@@JacobOvermanupdates on the truck.... Maintenance mods...heaviest load you've pulled
I'm just about to sell my '20 ram 1500 Hemi warlock for an 03 7.3 f350 hotshot truck and I can't be more excited. Oh yeah, my 13k mi Ram appreciated to 9000 over what I owe for it and the Ford is going to be just about free.
I picked up 2002 f250 with 120k miles. Love it. I hope to own it for 20 years+. Good to see your paint is peeling too. That's the big con of the early 2000 fords.
Mine’s 2000 f250 has 400528 miles and still runs strong after being an tow pig for big rigs.
I just bought a 01 with 12 inch leafs and 37s. It rides way better then any other lifted truck I’ve had
My 97 obs 7.3 has been the best vehicle for me by far... Easily oulasted all of my co workers vehicles since i have owened it in 2009... hardly no serious issues. I currently bought a 2003 6.0l with some of the common bullet proofings. 6.0l has been good to me so far but definetly has a higher maintenance requierment unlike my 7.3l
The doors are 1,000 to be realistic at least here in Michigan because they are always rusty and hard to find rust free, but I got a set for my extended cab for only 750$
Ford counts 1 idle hour as 29 miles so when I see a high mile 7.3 I’m like it’s way more than what people think
If you have a 7.3 with the old style odometer does it turn over 29 miles after an hour of idling?
@@dolaward No lmao
Got a 2001 7.tree f2shity with 890 thousand miles all original no rust Michigan truck works construction and plowed every winter of its life....still stroking and purrs like a kitten 😸 13 letter shitspreader INTERNATIONAL best diesel ever made...I've been driving it for 23 years now...wouldn't trade it for a rocketship....
Just bought a trust much like yours, 2002 F350 crew cab short bed. Same color as yours and with captains chairs. Love that truck. Had some deferred maintenance, but all in all, it runs like a champ. Great video! 👍🏿😎
Make sure you never ever ever lose that fuel pressure ;) and she will run forever ...and good Rotella oil .
Thanks for sharing, great points , I very much appreciate had two 7.3s and hands down top of my list on trucks.
I’ve got a 95, love it
97 f350 cab n chassis dually for me with 315k
1995 extended cab long bed, 190k
I bought me a 02 F350 4x4 7.3 Lariat Four door Long Bed with 325,000 miles and it's running great..starts up first try....but I want to know everything is new so I'm gonna pull the engine and replace everything around the block..it's gonna be my retirement travel trailer hauler..I paid $6,500 for it and I already have a pile of parts waiting to go on..New Turbo is the most expensive part of course.....
Updates??
These trucks were built during an era when Ford mostly did it right with the build quality and reliability, and before the trucks became overly complicated and expensive, so these will always be good trucks.
For the arm rest move the leather over a bit and tighten the nut that is loose
Picking up a 99 7.3 with 291k miles later this week for 6 grand. Couldn’t resist it lol
@Cody Parin mine is in great condition it’s been a southern truck it’s entire life. If it’s more rust than truck I’d walk away
7.3powerstroke for life. Live to drive the 7.3.
Trucks getting fixed now.
Over 400k miles, that's insane dude.
I have a lot of powerstroke 1996 F 450 7.3l turbo diesel 5 speed flatbed a1996 F 250 7.3 l turbo diesel automatic an another 1996 flatbed F 250 extended cab 5 speed 4 wheel drive as well as my favorite 1997 F 350 powerstroke 4 door XLT 5 speed long bed I own a 12 valve Cummins 3500 5 speed dually and the whole dash is broken in it pour interior
15w 40 is not going to hurt the ATV but it does help if it's formulated for wet clutch
Mine has the zf 6 and desired sterling 3.73 rear end giving me great mileage 21 to 23 average
Yes yes 💪
I like the short bed crew cab because just short enough for city driving
Driving a lot of road miles, I used to be a MPG nut. May have to become one once again, seeing what the government is doing with fuel prices. The manual transmission helps a bunch. I put a 3.08 R&P set in it as well as a Gear Vendor 20% electric overdrive. On OEM-sized rubber (the best for MPG) the trucks runs down the Interstate (70 MPH) ticking over 1325 RPM and 600 degrees EGT. Driving the posted limit I get 24 MPG without a tonneau. 25-26 with a tonneau and with a homemade "fastback" top I coaxed 28.5 out of it
My 7.3 excursion completely stock other than straight pipes gets a solid 16mpg going 75 on the highway. Just took a 600 mile round trip
That’s pretty good. About what I get out of my 99 7.3
I have 99 f250 with 650k and still running strong
Early '99 or late '99? I've got an early '99 with 164k and hoping to get a lot more out of it
I have a 97. love it.
I don't think the 6.7 will out last the 7.3 .
I get about 15-18 mpg completely stock non lifted beside a AFE intake driving 70mph maybe even 20mpg if u do 55mph and control your roll and stop I know cause when I’m broke and low on fuel I do that
I get the same lifted 4". 33 12.5 18s 3.55 gears auto. Has a hydra, 5" exhaust, and a a
Airaid CAI.
Guys between the afe..air raid...banks...s&b.. Donaldson/Ford cai... Which do you guys see as best
funny part about diesel's if you want better fuel economy is to crank up the power bigger injectors , hot tunes, and delete that worthless cat cause diesel burns to cool to make it work anyhow
What’s do you have in mind i have a 2000 f250 7.3 4 in exhaust 4x4 automatic
@@curtiswilson8988 i had a 2k great year call ed at ficmrepair.com the guy knows his shit and loves to help and over all good guy. his prices on parts up and down vs other places on parts or gets it for yea his cost end up saving infact i was supposed to pay and send old injectors for my 6.0 a month ago lol going 205/30s but if yeah dont a fuck about reliability and wanna shit n get i can help with that not a problem
Came across a well taken care of 7.3 97 OBS. Has 350k miles. Should I buy?
That truck is sick with the cclb I have only a ext cab short bed but only 130k miles so I’m not worried
I have inherited my grandpas early 99 and I have hade to replace the injectors because it was a farm truck it has I’ve 300,000. Also I forgot to replace the fuel filter. But he is making great points. If you have to chose between a newer truck or an older truck, I would pick the older truck.
I also bought a bully dog tuner for it and I will get better miles per gallon.
I like your truck videos I have a 1999 f350 4x4 with 75,000 miles on it
Those are some good looking wheels and tires! What are they called?
I'm fairly certain they are Method NV's.
I’ve got a 2001 , manual trans with 160 thousand miles . Lots of good years left
Oh yeah
419000 on mine whiskey dents all the way around it and I wouldn't take a 10000 dollar bill for it. I also have 2012 f350 no problem with it but I love my 7.3
I have owned a e99 dually since 2001 it has 225 k on it just did a kc turbo stage 1.5 kit wow what a difference I’ll never sell it 6spd manual as well
If I be honest I used to have a 7.3 it was a 2003 model also was a king ranch and crew cab only having 20000 miles on it and I always had enjoyed driving it super powerful reliable truck and thats until I came up on a 2nd gen dodge 3500 non dually that was a four door with the legendary Cummins in it paired with a 5 speed manual and having a long bed and I love my dodge as much as my ford but I love the dodge more not because of Cummins or anything it was just because of that sweet manual that paired up with a diesel makes it a real men's truck unlike chevy durmax with thier gasic problems
Yeah
I recently sold my deleted 2021 King Ranch 6.7 F-250 and while it had tons of power i still prefer my 2003 7.3 truck for reliability and durability.
I’m lost? Reliability. You must have had a horrible 6.7. 6.7 is way more reliable
Thanks for the great info on the 7.3. What brand of aftermarket headlights are those? I’m looking for a set for my 6.0.
ACONII or something like that. Cheap junk. Faded after 2 years.
Look at that guy. So optimistic, like diesel wouldn't be $5+ a gal the next year.
Where did you get your headlights? Very cool!
Ebay
sweet rig !!! we love ours enjoy the day
i was waiting for you to crank start it.
lol damn Dodge friends!!!! damn Chevy friends!!!! i love it.. me and my friends we all go back and forth on each other and I laughed out loud when you said that about your friend... lol and gas mileage i get 14.9 but i am running 4:11 gears and i do run interstate a good bit and i do put my foot in it.. I have gotten up to 15.3 being easy.
I have an 02 f350 super crew 7.3 with 35 MT and a leveling kit. I got 14.9 on stock pizza cutters, 9.9 on the 35's. Installed a hydra and put the 60hp tune in it, consistently gets 16mpg and i am not gentle with it.
I do my oil in my 7.3 on my own and it caust me 100 dollars running shell t4 rotella and I get it from walmart I found is the cheapest. Mines a 95 but it's the same engine. But good video bud.
The funny thing is manual locking hubs and auto locking hubs switch on the dash, right?
What is that black flat bar at the very bottom of your front end? And nice rig.
A 7.3 truck with the coil spring front suspension from the 05-07 models would be great
Definitely feasible / possible. All you gotta do is a front axle swap and get that carli suspension.
This video makes me wanna get a decent lowish mile one and drive it past 1 Million 💯
They are truly amazing trucks
My uncle has a 2013 ford f350 6.7 powerstroke with 1.7 million miles almost 1.8 million with only regular maintenance he has paperwork to prove it tows with it everyday
2001 4x4 running 35s pulling 18 mpg at 1800 rpm at 2000 rpm starts to drink. 2001 has no epa stuff on it all other years dose.
looking for a leveling kit for my 2000 powerstroke. What brand/ type did you use. my front springs are "progressive ". the springs are spread and 1 leaf attaches to the top and the other to the bottom of the shackles. Soo much body roll! my true love is my 1993 idi rest bucket that is geared so low with a bucket bench. all vinyl. great for living at the beach.
The weird/funny thing you mentioned is one red shock in front and one white shock in front
Leaf spring front end is way more reliable. Less parts to wear out
they sag so bad, I have a 1 year old leveling kit and they’re already sagging, rides like a brick too lmao.
@@jensenleblanc really,I don't have that issue. Did a add a leaf with the block that has few small leafs and three years strong. No it don't ride like the coil front ends but I find I have alot less issues. Different strokes for different folks.
@@scootertrash647 I think mine is pro comp replacement springs, 3 leafs instead of 2. My ball joints don’t last very long either haha. Only at 97k miles and gone through 3 sets. About to do the axle swap and will use all the highest quality parts and see how long that lasts. I lost my daily driver a while back and need the truck to be easier to whip around in parking lots, angry people are always annoyed that I need more room to turn 🙄. “tHeY dOn’T uNdErStAnD dO tHeY??” haha But hey if you have better luck then me that’s great, I have some property out in the desert but I usually only drive on the street so I guess it’s just the constant turning that stresses all the components. I tow trailers occasionally and they are pretty heavy but nothing over 13k haha
@@jensenleblanc ya I got a 8ft bed crew cab. I need the ocean to turn around lol. I did the adjustable track bar and drop down pitman arm and haven't had any ball joint issues. But they are known for it. I use Moog and had great luck. Others say different. Alot of little factors that affect the outcome. I've had good luck so I keep it the way it is. Would like a lift but if it ain't broke. Don't fuck with it lol
I think that wheel spacers could fix your turning radius problem
Yeah it would. But I just don’t trust wheel spacers.
Ive heard dudes claim they get 20+ but i've never seen on in person. Including myself I know 2 other guys with a 7.3 and mine gets the best economy out of all of em. But I dont have a lift and I have all the eco upgrades. Straight pipe all the way back, cold air, DP tuner with the 80 daily etc.
I average 15 combined and once or twice I've gotten 18.5 all highway. And I dont go faster than 65 unless I need too.
What wheel setup do you have? I’m trying to figure out what size tire I want
17x8.5 method with 35x12.50 nitto trail grappler
