Prince was not only the most talented artist of his generation with a plethora of hits. He was also a man who could wear high heels, eyeliner, and a blouse and take any man's girl with no questions asked. The man was a legend and the world got a little darker when he passed away. Great video. Loved your reaction.

I don't mean to downplay Prince's multi-instrumental virtuosity, but a more accurate picture is he basically played five instruments: vocals, guitar, piano/keyboards, bass, & drums. Of course, that includes programming multiple kinds of synthesizers & drum machines, using recording technology, etc. All to an amazing level of excellence. He didn't mess with saxophone or violin, for example, as far as anyone knows.

When "Kiss" came out in 86' Prince was on the mountain top of pop music, this was a #1 hit and in a time and era that had the most diverse genres of music. One day it was Prince the next day it would be Run-DMC the next day it would be Poison the next day it would be Pet Shop Boys just bonkers. The best time for music was the 80's. Prince was already a legend and the world loved him. He was a genius and trendsetter.
Prince was straight and played off the androgynous angle.
I would argue though that being gay back then was more acceptable but different then today. There were many artists that were gay with hits in the 80's Elton John, George Michael, Boy George, Freddy Mercury, K.D Lang, R.E.M, Tracy Chapman, and these artists were revered. The difference though in my opinion was they're private sex life wasn't celebrated and put on display like today. Also back then it was dark times for the gay community with the AIDS epidemic running rampant around the world that devastated many lives. That stigma of being gay with AIDS lead to homophobia on an ugly level. I know it sounds contradictory but people didn't care if you were gay but there were many who were scared because of the disease not the preference.

Prince was also Blessed with a voice that allowed him to sing at different octaves (Prince had a naturally deep voice). Prince's Dad was a Jazz Musician & his Mom a Singer, so Prince Wrote, Played, and Produced ALL OF HIS MUSIC BY HIMSELF !!! Other than Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye at times, No Other Solo Artist has accomplished this rare level of Artistry. Prince was also one of the Greatest Guitarists to EVER LIVE !!! This video was also the inspiration for the colors in so many kpop videos we have in our generation & yes he was super straight. If you look up his women they were all models, prince also played over 20 instruments, engineered, wrote all his music, truly was a mozart. He also woke up artists in the industry to own their masters and work. Alicia keys & dmx have stories about how Prince would preach ownership & tell them how to beat corporations & he was way ahead of his time. Very forward thinking & he always supported female musicians & not in a creep way. All the women he worked with to this day said he was very respectful of women but he had a lot of girlfriends. Prince is the reason i wish i wasn't gen z, i would've seen him a billion times lol

First heard Prince in 1979. I wanna be your lover and I was hooked. What a ride it was. His passing was gut wrenching. What an artist!
A way to compare to MJ … if MJ is rated PG, Prince is R 😂.
Prince was straight. He loved women, as lovers, friends and musical collaborators/band mates.
By the time he made Kiss, Prince was waaayyy more conservative! Go watch his early stuff in the bikini briefs 😂😂.
So many songs to listen to. …. Adore, Shhh, Most Beautiful Girl in the World, The Cross, If I was your girlfriend, Breakfast can wait, Sogn O’ the Times, Ballad of Dorothy Parker, The Ride, Joy In Repetition, 1999, Head (!!!), Dirty Mind, The Break Down, Purple Rain soundtrack, Scandalous, Insatiable, 3121, Musicology, Call My Name, The Question of U? and on and on and on ...

I loved your reaction to the video. I am sure you now know who and what Prince is about from all the different comments. You mentioned his high voice, well he sings in a deep voice, a tenor voice and in any register that he feels like.
This is the first time I have seen your channel and let me tell you, the decor of your room looks like it is straight out of a Prince video. He loves the color purple. Prince is 1 year older than me so that means I have heard him in 'real time' and watched how he just became who he is. His music has been practically the soundtrack of my life and I would play his music to get into the groove as I chased the women. As a Black guy, me and my other hang out guys wish we could have the 'portfolio' of women he had, but back to the subject.
I have gone to 3 of his concerts and have seen him on 3 occasions at 2 dance clubs. I used to wear a blue long coat when I would go out sometimes(the ladies kind of liked it) but when Prince showed up on his videos with his purple long coat there was no way I would wear my long coat again at the club. I have seen him in person at this one club, stare, focus and just got up from his seat and swaggered up and took a lady to the dance floor and did not give a damn that she was about 5 inches taller than him. (He is 5'2") One last thing, if you, Mia, were transported back to his day and he saw you at the club, hell yeah he would approach you. (hell, I would approach you) ---------- You look like you just stepped out of a Prince video.

It's funny you reacted to his voice getting super deep for a second because just like a gemini Prince had at least 10 different voices. He could sound like totally different people. Prince was at his biggest when i was in high school in the early 80s. I absolutely loved him and his music was the sound track to my high school years. he had a clothing line that was replicas of his stage and movie costumes. I wore one of his jackets(the one he is wearing bye the lake in doves cry video) and one of his ruffly white shirts to my junior prom.

Yes Indeed Mia....Prince was the "Ultimate" Performer...He could DO it All & BTW his Mastery on the Guitar is "second to None"...I had the Privilege of Seeing him in Concert at MSG..( Madison Square Garden) in the early 90's...At that time he shared the stage with Drummer Sheila E.. The two of them Brought the House Down!!!!!... If you're Taking suggestions as to what other song you should Check out, Listen to 1 of His First Hits...It's Called "I Wanna Be Your Lover".. It basically Introduced him to the World!!!! Debuted in '79!

At this time in the 80s, people were used to seeing androgenous artist and didn't think it was gay. Like George Michael, Rick James, the rock hair bands. But of course Prince brought a whole notha level of sexuality to his music, and people knew of his various tryst with the baddest chicks of the time. Even tho he always blurred those lines of masculine and feminine. When I was little even all the hardened gangsters in my family and the Bronx loved and rocked wit Prince. Highly suggest watching the movie Purple Rain! It's absolutely incredible and one of the greatest music albums ever. Love the channel! Vibe with u all the time, great job 👏🏽💜

48 yr old dude that grew up in montana 👋 prince was a legend as long as i remember. Which was the early 80s. He did fit well with the cocaine driven consumer age. Neon colors, flashy clothes..he prob got by cause he could dance and play the guitar like a mfer. Music bridges gaps.

Check out his video, 'If I was your girlfriend'. Oh, you're in for a treat. Back in the day, he got his respect as a 'Man', (in spite of the feminine energy he radiates) because Prince could easily draw our women to him! He was very secure in his masculine side too.(See the difference in his voice and Michael's voice?

Prince was a super talented musician, writer, and singer. When he submitted his first demo to a record label, he played all the instruments and sang. The studio exec was impressed by his talent. He was also a good athlete in high school. I believe he played basketball even though he was short. One of the funniest stories about Prince was the Charlie Murphy story when he met Prince. Oh man, I busted a gut when I first saw it.

Prince was so talented musically that that’s what people focused on. Plus believe it or not, it was actually more common for artists to dress flamboyantly in the 70s and early 80s during the funk and disco era.

Kreator, a German thrash metal band, got a song called "Fallen Brothers," where they throw pictures of rock legends into a fire pit like a cremation memorial. One of the pics was of Prince. I think one of my aunts was addicted to Prince when growing up. Oh, and there's plenty of female musicians that be killing it. Grimaze probably has one of my favorite female death metal guitarists. At the same time, Brazil's Nervosa and Crypta are pretty popular all-female bands in the extreme metal community as well.

We loved both. Prince was a great musician, singer, song writer. Michael Jackson was a great singer and dancer and song writer. But prince was edgier and innovative. You should do "Let's Go Crazy" and "little Red corvette. They were both 80s superstars but michael started as a child star in the 70's. So i knew of michael jackson longer. But i loved both great and unique artist who adopted a lot of James Brown. So they were both his musical children! Prince always was with women and so i gravitated to him as a teenager but i liked both!

My favorite song is "The Beautiful Ones", and "When Doves Cry" is my ring tone. Highly recommend both.
I agree with your assessment. MJ was more family-friendly, and Prince was a s_xy, naughty boy in all the right ways. I started listening to MJ in elementary school and became a superfan around the time of the "Off the Wall" album (1979). Went to the Jacksons "Triumph" concert and cried with joy and excitement.
I remember first noticing a poster of Prince, and listening to his popular songs on radio and TV around 1980. By junior high, my interests moved to Prince, and I became a superfan around the time when "Purple Rain" blew up (1984). His level of creativity, those funky beats, and that raw s energy - exquisite. I like MJ & love Prince.

Ooh, how could I forget about "Adore"? So good! It may actually be my #1. How can it be so romantic, gospel-y, sexy, theatrical, musically layered and an extreme expression of admiration, with a dash of humor, all at the same time?! It is a masterpiece and so very Prince! I highly recommend it, but would first prepare your Prince palate with some of the more popular hits like "When Doves Cry", "Little Red Corvette", "Raspberry Beret", and "Purple Rain", so you can grow your appreciation of his talent and creativity.

Prince song i what to be your lover was released in 1979 so he has been a music icon for a very long time . Check out that classic song there's so many to choose from but that's near the beginning of the story of Prince. And you needed to see him playing the guitar. He played multiple instruments and was good with all of them.

The angel/devil analogy is brilliant lol. MJ was definitely more appealing to the masses, whereas Prince was making music for grown folks. Nobody tripped on this back then because it was the '80s, a very wild time where expression was fully embraced. Prince's style was very androgynous and was very in tune with his feminine side while equally displaying his masculinity and love for women. That included having many women collaborate with him on music and also embraced having musicians of all races in his bands over the years. His music was very sexual and sensual throughout the '80s and '90s, but by the time the 2000s came around he became a devout Jehova's Witness and his music was still soulful and funky, just way more cleaned up and in tune with God.

You’re right, Prince was the bad boy. The warning labels on albums started mainly because of him. If you react to his music videos do the extended version if there is one. When Doves Cry is a great example. You miss the guitar solo if you don’t watch the extended version. Anything live is great. Empty Room in Montreaux, Creep (Radiohead cover) at Coachella, Shh in Detroit or Purple Rain in Syracuse are a few of the fantastic live videos. All except Purple Rain, which was from 1985, the others are performances from the 2000’s and 2010’s. In the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s he did splits and jumped off pianos and speakers. Later he still danced, but stopped the jumping and splits due to hip problems from doing it for so long and while wearing heels. Prince always had at least one female in any of his bands. Most of the time he had at least 2. He was a champion for women and preferred to work with them. Several of his engineers were women too.

Prince was straight. He told people but got tired of them asking all the time, so he preferred to address it in some of his music rather than answer idiot reporters all the time who didn't do their homework and just assumed because of his amazing high range. I'd love to see you do a reaction to "Thieves In The Temple (extended version)" music video. Since you like Michael Jackson, you'll love that. And check out "3 Chains O' Gold" for his tribute to Freddie Mercury after he died. Also, you are spot on that Michael Jackson was perceived to be more family-friendly, while Prince was the bad boy of funk and pop, creating the Minnesota sound.
