They are ridiculously talented. Scott's range is amazing, Mitch has the voice of an angel. Kirstin has a beautiful voice, so rich. Kevin is incredible and Matt is fantastic. I love them.
This outdoes the Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion version both for production (to be fair, they simply stood and sang) but also for vocals. Five people making as much sound as the orchestra and the singers, but also telling the story. Far more inspiring. I love Andrea Bocelli and have for years, but this version upgraded from the original. Scott is singing in Italian and Mitch is actually translating again like the original. And don’t forget they will do this live on tour. One thing especially good about PTX is they never record anything they can’t do live. This was the first song released on their newest album "Evergreen" for the Christmas tour 2021. For it not being a traditional Christmas song with the set & lighting you feel the holidays for sure.
I love watching your reactions as you don't stop the song anywhere in it. You just don't get the vibe of the song without listening to it straight through. Thank you, I love you.
**THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from the planet of WTF 🙃 😊🙃 I truly love how Pentatonix will put their own spin on a song, yet still manage to keep the integrity & respect the original artist ❣
I was a newborn baby when this song, recorded in 1964, originally named “The Sound(s) of Silence”, and grew up listening to it. The songs of this time were so integral to my childhood. Not just this song but many performers from the same generation. Scott started the song with a sensational vocal fry which demonstrates his musical versatility. Lovely reaction from you.
I agree, wholeheartedly. And now the entire album it's on has been nominated for a Grammy, so they may get it. Keeping my fingers crossed; this would be Matt's first Grammy.
Any time that Matt or Avi take over a lead part, Scott takes over the bass. You've heard him sing this low before, but you just didn't realize it because it wasn't the lead.
PTX has done so much, so well, it's hard to say "oh THIS is their best..." and I won't say that now, what I will say is **"THIS is Pentatonix at the very top of their game!"** It may not be the best, but surely there's nothing better. Yet.
I first read this observation in another comment -> After Mitch's initial solo intro, the song is structured as a series of duets - first between Scott and Mitch, followed by Scott and Kirsten, then Mitch and Kirsten, and finally back to Scott and Mitch again. All supported by the brilliant bass and percussion of Matt and Kevin, of course.
I love the fact that PTX seems to always be able to shock reactors on how good they can do most covers. This is why we call them upgrades instead of covers. :)
Kevin and Matt were flawless their talent not always recognized like the others but they are brilliantly talented and signifant contributors to PTX. Love. Them all.
It amazes me that Mitch has such clarity and control at such a high pitch without sounding nasally or reedy. Over the years their voices have evolved into so much more than what they were when they first become famous. "I can hardly speak English correctly.... " it's my native language and I still struggle to "word correctly" some days to an extent that some days a random person might think that I have had a stroke, and here vocal percussionist are doing things that I can't even understand.
Stunningly beautiful!! Those words do not even give this rendition Justice…Everyone is at the very top of their game, Scott in his deep clear Italian voice and OMG Mitch😳…His voice just washes over you and soothes the soul! Loved your reaction. Your facial expressions…confused, questioning, astounded and finally accepting…said it all! The videography was astounding and the arrangement was impeccable.
They have a 'Behind the scene" of this song showing them making a winter wonderland Inside a sound stage. Kevin thought he had too much 'snow' in his hair. Scott sings low on "Sound of Silence" and anytime the base (Avi or Matt) sing lead. Their real secret was growing up together through Community Arts Theater. Scott and Mitch met when they were 10 years old and Mitch met Kirstin when he was 8, though they didn't have any scenes or became friends until High School.
I smiled when you were talking about Kevin and was amazed by his performance. You said, "I can barely speak English." I remembered the Kevin is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. :p He never ceases to amaze me.
I know English, Irish and a bit of French. Mandarin Chinese isn’t the easiest language to learn, I’d imagine. I used to play the cello in our school orchestra but I wasn’t great at it. I think we might have come second or third in a Feis Cheoil though! This a music competition in Ireland. Kevin is a true genius and such a humble and likeable chap as well.
Wow wow wow thank you so much for reacting to this one great reaction to I felt your chills Mitch and Scott were perfect for this song I loved your expression to it to 🥰🤗
Pentatonix always brings at least one surprise to each of their arrangements. I, too, was stunned that Mitch took the "female lead." Not so surprised that Scott did the low lead because I've heard him sing very low. Kirstin's belting-wow! And as always, great support from Matt and Kevin. Brilliant. I would love to see them win a Grammy for this.
Loved your reaction, as always. You said it "Absolutely phenomenal' . This is Pure Pentatonix Perfection. PTX is always intentional in the selection of the singers in every arrangement whether it is for solo, duet, melody, harmony, instrumental sounds or ear candy. They were all astounding - Mitch was astounding with those vibratos, runs and beautiful notes; Scott's operatic presentation; Kirstie with those piercing notes; Matt with those base notes and Kevin on the percussion - Just wow!! Please ....Music Industry...this deserves a Grammy for whichever category you want - Duo/Group; Instrumental/A Capella; Spiritual/Religious; or Arrangement....or all four!!
Scott Hoying is a baritone, he sings in his pop music voice a lot so think we forget that. I think everyone in PTX is awesome, Kirsten always amazes me, if it weren't for her, I don't believe PTX would have the unique sound they have.
Thank you for reacting to this amazing Pentatonix video. They are incredible. You heard sing very low when he opened the song "Sound Of Silence". You reacted to it.
I could tell you really enjoyed this. I loved it. It is now my favorite PTX remake. Thanks for doing the reaction. I think Mitch and Scott were breathtaking.
I'm glad you noted the amazing job Kevin did on this. It's so easy to overlook it due to the stunning work of the trio, but he and Matt add such a richness to this that makes it complete. And the look on your face just before it started showed the same emotion of anticipation that I always feel right before hearing a new PTX release.
Scott can sing deep bass. If you've ever heard PTX's Hallelujah, it's Scott who takes over the bass when Avi sings the lead. He has an unbelievable range.
Thanks you so much, you are a joy to watch. At times you look like a kid in a candy store, so much expression in you eyes, and so much enjoyment once you registered what was actually happening. I love this more than the original and I still get shivers every time. Can they get any better? But we always say that.
What a beautiful rendition: Mitch was fantastic as always and being italian I really enjoyed Scott singing in italian even though Andrea Bocelli is the best for me. :))
Actually you probably have heard Scott sing lower than this. In Hallelujah, Sound of Silence and many other songs when Avi or Matt has a solo section, Scott fills the base part beautifully. His vocal range is astounding!
I saw you getting goosebumps and to be honest I did too. I think Mitch and Scott on lead for this are an excellent choice. Their voices sound so good together. Scott has a beautiful warm voice when he sings low. I like that the vocal percussion is kept in the back. It's there but not overpowering anything. In regards to the videography: the BTS snippets they released by now are funny. Not as goofy as HF but still fun to watch.
I am thrilled that you enjoyed this cover so much. To date is my absolute, all time favorite of Pentatonix and I personally do prefer this better than Celine Dion/Andre Bocelli or Celine Dion and Josh Groban or even David Phelps and Lauren Talley. I just end up giving them extra props for the Clarity of the voices the fact that they don’t have and orchestra behind them but they’ve got Kevin I’ve just always blown away. I truly enjoyed watching your adorable face and expressions. You’re really quite adorable.
What a great reaction to a phenomenal song. Pentatonix nicer fails to deliver. I could tell by the look on your face, you were surprised by the leads, (as you later said), but I can't think of a better duo to sing it! Thanks again for a wonderful cover. I watch you often, and you always do such an amazing cover!
I loved your reaction. I agree with everyone else that you need to do sound of silence. Scott has a huge range in his voice really all three of the trio do. In problem he sings really high and in sound of silence he goes really low. Subscribed for more. They covered Stevie Wonder's I just called to say I love you.
This music is perfect for Scott and Mitch....Damn Mitch is incrediable... 4:24 Mitch seems to be so easy at what he does. damn. Please explain this last part 5:08 to me, what range change did Mitchel make?
No - You have heard lower. In Hallelujah Scott takes over the Bass part while Avi sings solo and he does a fine job. You can tell when you watch the live version.
I saw an interview, when Celine did this with Josh, he was standing in for Andre, no one knew who the scrawny teenager was. Celine sang her part, then when Josh started singing, she stopped, all the musicians stopped, everyone stopped what they were doing because they couldn’t believe his voice.
Great reaction! Thank you for listening to the whole song first before commenting! I subscribed because of that.... You're a Celine fan so may I recommend you doing some reactions of live performances of Lara Fabian? She's amazing....
I have always loved this song...but this rendition is by far...the...BEST!! Absolutely beautiful! What is going on this week??...Home Free and thier Brothers in Arms ...and now this!!! Great week of musical masterpieces. 🥰 P.S. Check out PTX's "Come Along". It's really different but has a great beat and Fun to listen to!
I think this is probably my favorite by them. I'm going to make some enemies here, but I'm not always a fan of the arrangement of their songs. Their voices however, are top notch. THIS one? Just simply amazing. Mitch and Scott were superb!

Definitief 'n gunsteling.
Mitch is fantasties!
The ending was Mitchell's high contralto. Scott's Italian was on point.
Lieben, I truly enjoy your reaction. You are so true with your reactions. Thank You Thank You Thank You
This song contained a full on Mitch-slap and Scott’s rolled “R’s” during his Italian solo was nothing less than brilliant.
Grammy worthy!
great reaction (s) Mister 🙂
Fantastic, wonderful and perfect are these singers with heavenly voices. It's exciting to hear them!
i love your honest reaction, the face says it all
I love watching your reaction…thank you. By the way, you are amazingly gorgeous

You should do Kevin's solo of Down. It shows so many of his skills
This is a true masterpiece

Pentatonix the sound of silence. There scott goes really deep
They do deserve a Grammy. Even if they don’t have a song out, give it to them anyway! ♥️ Thank you for the share!
PTX never disappoints. Never. End of story.
To be fair, I would love the version you suggested - I'd love to hear Kirsten and Matt taking a lead together, that would be so interesting!
I love watching your reactions as you don't stop the song anywhere in it. You just don't get the vibe of the song without listening to it straight through. Thank you, I love you.
I love how you react. Your "reactions" are genuine and aren't "analytical". Then your commentary at the end was spot on.

They all were on top of their game!! I must say Mitch signs with almost no effort!!! This blows the original away!!
And this was performed without a full orchestra. Just vocals! Thanks for the reaction!
That is absolutely amazing🤯😲😁
It’s so beautiful. It makes me tear up. Mitch is such a flawless singer. Thank you for your lovely reaction
I normally cry as well on this song but I was just in utter shock🤦🏻😁🤗

Kevin is a real Renaissance man - cello, sax, tenor, beatboxer, graduate of Yale.
Oh wow that is impressive😱 I only know English, Afrikaans and a little German and flemish🤯🤗😁
You should do The Sound of Silence. Scott does go low.

Scott sings bass when Matt and Avi sing.
