From the multiple hints of its predecessor’s Main theme to the use of the “End Credits” theme, I have feelings that the word “nostalgia” doesn’t do justice to. To be honest the whole piece gives me Nostalgia for a journey that I haven’t gone on yet and the bold change in direction for the main theme of this game makes it seem as if the game is saying “I’m not just a sequel, I am my own game that doesn’t need help from the past.” You are the heart of this franchise Gareth, thank you for everything you’ve done for me and many other people’s lives throughout the years.
I know. Every leitmotif has a different section of the story. The original theme song is powerful, new, and sounds like a triumphant battle. It sounded tribal. Over time the theme "evolved" into a more emotional story driven piece. The new theme invokes a lot of feelings. In the ARK 2 theme, Santiago's theme plays until the Rex crashes through the trees, then, it reverts back to the evolved version of the original ARK theme. I find myself humming to it every single time. It is such a powerful yet story driven leitmotif. Gareth Coker is really good at this kind of thing. He did the exact same thing for the Ori games.
First theme here is my former Beach Bob running up a hill with everyone else’s and passing the spear to our future characters. Last theme is saying farewell to our old base and Dinos as we prepare for ARK II.
"Past Lives" hits a bit different than anything else. The subtle end credits theme playing makes me a bit sad, to be honest. And emphasizing it with "past lives" really drives home that those lives are behind us, just memories, and we have a new journey to face. Ark is the best game I have ever played, and I am more than excited to play it some more.
my feelings exactly. makes me feel... somewhat nostalgic, even though I only started playing ark a few months ago when it was free on the epic games store. if a song can do that, it's a good song in my book.
i miss the old times, ark had a weird charm, i miss when there were no dlcs and it was all just there, then when scorched earth came out it felt awesome, it was so awesome to see more of the game, and all the premises of a desert themed expansion were so good. now nobody even remembers about it. it was beautiful and fun, then all the new dlcs started coming out, telling stories and more about what ark really is: anything. it's a world corrupted by humanity's greed and thirst of power, where most failed and some, survived. while some... things. broke the balance, the feeling of what was before is still there, and i sure hope this game will make me live those moments again.

Considering Ark 2 runs on Unreal 5, according to Ced, and the devs finally have all the newest dev tools and engine features, this one is destined to be amazing.
I have been thinking about how funny it is that Gareth is literally composer for all my favorite games, but I am now realizing it is all because of his music. He just has a way that makes games carry this spark of brilliance. Gareth could compose the ost for a game where a kid runs through a forest with a stick and make it an emotional masterpiece.
I love the part when the T-Rex comes out of the brush and the theme reverts to the original theme, of course a late version of it. There is a lot of story in these themes. And yes I've pretty much figured out every single leitmotif. I find myself humming the Original theme when it plays in the ARK 2 theme song, not just because it's good, because it has a sort of nostalgia, but something else as well. Although the game itself is kind of scuffed, the story, music, and art direction is just outstanding. Yep, completely. Especially when listening to the second piece "past lives", it just feels like it was written for an Ori game, not even to mention the motif used at 5:00 !
Just simply amazing with how you, as others said, have taken the essence of the ending of the prior chapters of Ark '1' and wove it into the beginning of the next, Ark '2'. It is just subtle enough that if you simply listen to it, the song is enthralling, but as you listen more you start hearing the haunting tunes from portions of the prior games. One of the songs I hear used in 'Past Lives', is the song for Extinctions Ascension scene. Inserts like this if done right (Which you do), can really bring forth emotion and fondness of the past. Very well done how you have created this wide range of music used for Ark, not just the songs themselves but how you have created these Harder versions that play as things get rougher with bigger enemies even in the same area, the bigger song overlays perfectly over the quieter one. I for one, as well as many others are very glad you are able to continue creating the musical masterpiece that is Ark.

Where the journey has just begun.

Just when I thought Ark music couldn’t get any more epic…. Gareth Coker pulls this out the bag!! Absolutely legendary!! I only hope to god the game lives up to the music epicness!! I’m not holding my breath though…. Gareth Cokers music is years ahead of the Wildcard LAG!
I still can’t figure out who my favorite composer is, you or John Williams. Tbh, I’m leaning more towards you :). Keep up the great work!
Every song out of this game is incredible Gareth your work is truly incredible.
Loved the bit of this theme in the Gen2 ending cutscene.
Oh my god i don't know why but you almost made me cry with past lives truly beautiful man can't wait to hear this in the end if i assume correctly, ark is so lucky to have you make their songs
Thank you Mr. Gareth Coker, Ark music is truly my favorite game music.
I feel the epicness and beauty in the Ark music.
Sometimes i tame a dinosaur just to hear your music or idle on the main menu.
Can't wait to listen to the rest of Ark II music even if i am not able to play it.
Can’t wait to see Vin Diesel raise a giga for 2 weeks
SO. MUCH. HYPE.
Your music brings me to tears every time the best soundtrack I have ever listened to thank you
This makes me emotional. Especially after seeing the ending of genesis 2. Gareth you are a legend for making these themes. The subtle theme of the end credits in past lives really makes you feel that all the dinos, the bases, the life, everything is just a memory now. Now a new adventure awaits!
Absolutely breathtaking, as always.
Gareth Coker, you are a Legend!
You've once again out done yourself Gareth. Excellent work as always!!
