Another hard to find TIP is how to keep the FILE names from repeating every time you delete or remove the files from the SD card. If anyone is looking for this setting, it's in the app under your camera setting (where you set your ISO, Shutter, EV, etc.) from there click the gear tab/icon on the top right. Scroll down to the setting "File Index Mode" and change it from the default Reset to Continuous. Your Mavic has to be on and connected for the setting to be changed!
I find there are unique challenges to your learning, these were some major steps for me: 1. Learning basic flight in the usual area. 2. Using the built-in flight modes 3. Then changing locations 4. Friend talking while you are flying 5. Flying around tree branches 6. Flying over water 7. Flying in the mountains 8. Avoiding flying near other passers-by 9. Combinations of some or all of the above.
I love how while you were describing flying your first drone, the girl in the blue shirt ducked while the drone was coming at her. I love that kind of stuff. Your adding a little humor to this very important video. I watch this vid from time to time just to bone up on some of the basics. I love how you always preach to practice, practice, practice. I couldn't agree with you more, and that goes for almost everything in life, in my opinion, but especially when it comes to drones, where a snap decision might be called for, and you've got it because you practiced. Another great video from you. Marc Trainor.
Hey Jeven, Awesome video, l just picked up my Mavic Pro about 10 days ago and have had two successful flights so far the problem that l’m having is with turning the power off and on the controller!!! Can you give any suggestions. Thanks!!!!
I just got my new DJI Spark drone for my birthday and before I flew it I watched all if his videos to fill me in so I knew what I was doing instead of risking the drone by flying it blankly.
Check your return to home height in your settings before taking off to ensure that it will not fly into something that is taller than the settings come from the factory.
I'm happy that flying drones in national parks is not restricted in Australia. Our Civil Aviation Authority provides great info regarding drones and a 'Can I Fly Here' app with maps showing all restricted areas etc.
Sorry but this is not the case - you need to first seek permission from a NPWS area manager who will assess your request and may or may not grant access. There are plenty of restrictions and for good reason - I have witnessed some very dangerous flying around public spaces by people with no regard for these regs. Check out: www.environment.nsw.gov.au/topics/parks-reserves-and-protected-areas/park-policies/drones-in-parks. Cheers - Dave
@browser067 You are absolutely incorrect, at least in NSW. Perhaps you didn't have time to read the link I provided. For a good summary of nat. parks regulations here in Australia, see: www.reeffree.com.au/blog/view/can-i-fly-my-drone-in-over-australian-national-parks/ Failure to adhere to this requirement will almost certainly result in a fine and worse - confiscation of the drone. Best to either do the right thing or be damned quiet about it... :-)
Hi Jeven , I have no words to express my Gratitude And Thanks But All I Can Say Is I'm A New DJI Spark User And I found Your Tutorials to be one of the most Beneficial Around I'm So Greatful There Are Guys like you around Teaching Us How To Deal With Our Drones ......Again I Appreciate Your Hard effort And Look Forward to Learning More From You
Thank's Jeven, great video. I'm about to purchase my first GPS drone, an SRFC F-11 Pro. I've had a couple of entry level drones in the $50 to $100 range....never could get solid hovers, always having to land and adjust the trim. These GPS drones look so much easier to hover and control....can't wait to get out there!...Peace from S. Oregon
F11 Pro is a great drone, download GIMP on your PC so you can edit the photos of your drone, wide angle lens creates a fish eye effect, when you download it, let me know, I tell you the three steps to correct your pics...
I know no one cares but the trees at 4:44 are Tamatix trees. 200 gallons of water a day for an average tree and they increase the ph lvl in the soil beneath them.
I dont agree with always updating the firmware to the newest update. There has been a lot of issues lately with doing such especially with iPhone 7 and up users. DJI does not test there apps before releasing them so I think a lot of people would suggest its better to wait a few days before updating.
Some additions: #10 - Format your memory card inside the drone! Do it using the DJI app. This way it will be completely clean and empty, ready to record beautiful images and videos, especially if you are reusing a micro SD card from another device like a Go Pro. After your flight, and after you have plugged in the batteries to recharge, take the memory card out and download the files to your computer. Reformat the card inside the drone when you startup again on your next flight. #11 - Calibrate your gimbal before flying to make sure your horizon will be level! You can see at the tail end of #15 at ( 7:50 in) that Devon's horizon is off. Make sure the table or surface your drone is sitting on is level too, before calibrating the gimbal. Mine was off when I flew this morning. Grrrrr... #20 - Watch your battery life and flying time - it decreases with temperature! Was flying this morning in Montreal at sunrise, temp was -1C (around 31 F) and the battery low warning started some 15 minutes into flying. I was practicing as Devon suggests, getting a feel for my Mavic 2 Pro, and was glad I kept it line of sight, just in case it died prematurely (it didn't). One last item - the Return to home function - I've found that if you use it, due to GPS error, the craft can land some 6 ft or more from where it took off, even if you did the hover routine for 20 seconds, to allow it to determine its home point. Practice your landings! Make sure you are in an open environment, and that the grass is not too tall... or your drone will become a lawn mower! Got some grass on my blades from a municipal park where I flew from the first time :-( Cheers from Montréal :-)
A great app i use on IPhone to know where a restricted area is and my surrounding is “B4UFly” it gives you a map with the area you are and and has categories of the restrictions if any that you are in, I also like to use “Windalert” app, it lets me know the wind gust for the area I’m in and areas near me so i am aware of how strong the wind is so i can have a safe flight with out worrying if my drone is going to be pushed around.
Great advice Jeven! I am new to drones and about to purchase the Mavic Air. I have been studying it for several months now watching all the RUclips videos I could find! I have saved this video to my library for future reference. Thanks tons for this very important information! I have subscribed to you for more videos and information. You have made everything clear and easy to understand! Appreciate it!!!
Your video is great . Any tips how to turn right or turn left with the remote control , for me its not smooth at all , what do I do wrong ? I am not happy watching my videos and finding out I cannot control well the turns ...Any tips on that please???? Thank you Jeven .
Love it! Thank you so so muh for putting this list together! I just got a Mavic 2 Pro. I took it out of the box last night and immediately realized my son and I were way way over our head! ...its my/our first drone...he's 11. Your top 20 list along with some other tutorials have helped so so much! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
I’ve been flying my Mavic Platinum freely with limited restrictions Film Making in the PI for a couple months now but decided to watch your video anyway. Still enjoyed your presentation and found it very useful, thanks for taking the time to put it all together. I’ll be filming today in Valencia, Negros Oriental Sunday Market and airial shots. I don’t know if there’s much to film in the states with all the FAA over reach. Can’t film National Parks or monuments and so much restricted air space....So is America really Free? 🤔
@Jeven Dovey .Hi I have a DJI 2 zoom. But can i charge the battery and controller in a (EU) 12v~220V Inverter? or do i need a Sinus wave inverter ? Thank you for your videos.
Good thing. Another good tip for hint 14: End video record before shutting down the drone, because the film isn't recorded when you're filming and shut down the drone :-)
not sure why the hover app needs access to the photo/media and the telephone number of the phone. I get it needs location and possible storage but really, telephone and ID?
Thanks! Very Informative and appreciate you taking the time to explain some of the basics. I’m so stoked I alas have a near new mpp! All the best to you and yours everyone!
great video. Just got a Mavic 2 Pro. its great, I am having a heck of a time finding a place to test fly. Found a park about 30 minutes away that is wide open and no air traffic. Staff there said it was cool with them for me to fly there but said something about the county not allowing there use in the county itself. I tried to look up anything specific about it but didn't find anything. not really sure where to go now.
Are you glad you bought it? btw it would mean so much to me if you subbed to me, and gave my DJI Spark video a like! ruclips.net/video/bx2fi-4P4Ag/видео.html
You called it on flying indoors... I live in a dome house with super high ceilings and no flat walls. I think the shape totally messed with the signal cause my mavic pro which usually hovers in place was going back and sideways and ran into a wall
+1 for the TAKE OFF THE PROPS -- Its saddens me that i didn't even think of that for a single moment when i first got my spark in the middle of crazy (and i mean it) crazy -- CRAZY -- cold Quebec's winter.
It did, actually. And i must say i really was exactly as described, newbie and eager to start flying. I didn't have a phone connected either, and went as high as possible, until i couldn't see the lights anymore (it was night time, too). Thinking back on it... that wasn't such a great idea. I've since gotten lots of experience but i still crash the damn thing once in a blue moon. They are little TANKS. Now i need to tap the batteries for external power or get a TP somewhere on the board where i can steal some angry pixies to power a couple 3w (or a single 9/10w) led.
Just got my spark and have been watching all your stuff. Really appreciate all the time to help us newbies. One question. Should I register with FAA. Read differing opinions.
YES, Actually EVERY drone over 0.55 lbs has to be registered with the FAA> It only costs 5 buck. And dont forget to attach your registration number to the drone as well as your contact info in case it does get lost.
Hello!.. Thank you for that information!.. I have my Mavic pro for a while and most of the time I don't take off the propellers when I do the IMU calibration and also I do first the compass calibration and then the IMU, after that I shut off and restarted. I don't do the gimbal calibration except when I make some updates .. So everything has been working well!!!... Do you thing I shoud follow all the steps as DJI recommend?? Thanks !
Cool vídeo! Thank you guy for such compilation on best practices for us new “droners”. Hope to get the hands on my new drone and let you know about the xp

Holy crap, this is so helpful. I wish I knew these tips before I crashed it...
I put a strip of white tape on my carrying case and wrote "Remove Gimbal cover" and "Set RTH".

Tip 21: get a comfortable chair for your computer work, editing will be your next learning curve.
As an airline pilot and drone pilot thanks for mentioning the rules and airspace. Your channel is great. Tons of information and good looking shots.
Great advice Jeven! I am new to drones and about to purchase the Mavic Air. I have been studying it for several months now watching all the RUclips videos I could find! Thanks dude. Just got my Mavic Pro, first drone ever! Set it up last night and hoping the wind dies down today, to take it out for the first time.
Awesome! The Mavic Pro is a great drone!
Your tutorials they re so professionally and well explained. After 2 clips wits dji sparks I just bought one.
Love it! Thank you so so muh for putting this list together! I just got a Mavic 2 Pro. Great advice, thanks.
Great advice, appreciate it!
Thank you
Step 21: Turn the “Airplane Mode” ON your phone, last thing you want is an incoming call mid flight 😅
Danny Tasko TV Just as you get that epic shot... *incoming call* well shit!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great tip. Wondxered what I would do when the phone rings. Crash?
If you use a smart watch with your phone the call will come through that. happened to me my first test flight. worked pretty good.
If you use Android it will appear just as a push up notification
Airplane mode is for the antenna for those who dont know. You can turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi...save battery bigtime too
Very clear, usefull information and advice for beginner like me. Cheers friom Brunei.
😊😊😊😊
Thanks for make this serires. I bought drone a few days ago and read hundreads of thread.
These videos combine all the tips into one bb
@Jeven Dovey .Hi I have a DJI 2 zoom. But can i charge the battery and controller in a (EU) 12v~220V Inverter? or do i need a Sinus wave inverter ? Thank you for your videos.

Dude you're the real MVP. These videos are the best on RUclips.
Thank You!
Great instructional videos
Glad it was helpful!
Greaat tutorial for complete beginners like me. Thanks Jeven Dovey
Nice one , great advise 👍🏼
not sure why the hover app needs access to the photo/media and the telephone number of the phone. I get it needs location and possible storage but really, telephone and ID?
QUESTION ABOUT A BATTERY. If I charge the kind that might catch fiure, is it ok to store it in the Mavic pro for a few days?
Yeah you can store it in the pro. I've never had an issue
Thanks! I got me a spark 2 days ago and still haven't had a chance to get it out yet! I hope it's worth it!
Hey man I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now and I must say all your material is very helpful thanks for the solid content.
Thank you very much, very usefull information!!!

Probably couldnt fly in the super cold...

Tip 21 ... dont take off on a dusty rocky ground your camera gonna pick up all that dust on your lens :)
You recommend knowing the FAA rules for drones. Where can we find them?
Karl Bass You can find them here--> www.faa.gov/uas/
Great review even for someone that has flown a drone before. And I would say a "Must View" for someone new.
My first time and I just bought a mavic 2. Thank you for the info.
Awesome! Make sure you watch my Mavic 2 beginners guide ruclips.net/video/tYrnNYgbglY/видео.html
Nice thank you much , strarting company and this is things everyone needs to hear, no matter how simplistic! 👍
Thanks! 😊😊
Jeven Dovey thanks I have had my drone for about 1 year I crashed broke the arm now I now had to get some new parts.
Well presented. Excellent tips. Tks.
Glad I could help
Cool vídeo! Thank you guy for such compilation on best practices for us new “droners”. Hope to get the hands on my new drone and let you know about the xp
Nice Video, question why National Park are off limits? Can you tell me why if you know? I am thinking getting a Mavic Pro, I heard negative review regarding the Video, what do you think?
I have had the phantom 2 for a while now and i just ordered the mavic and two weeks of shipping seems like forever and its only beed a few hours😂😊🤘
This is such a helpful video
Don’t know why people dislike
😕
Nice one Jeven! Notepad and Pen was out the whole time. Great tips
super !
Great vid! Video sugestión , how to clean drone after crash? How to take sticky leaf debris off? Thx
Just be careful. You don't want to damage the drone. Clean it gently
Thx but how? What can I use to remove sticky leafs?
Nice overall review for newbies. Good presentation.
I love drones.
thx for all the helpful information!
Great set of tips for beginners, and everyone really. Happy Holiday to you.
Great video, keep this up
Good tips, Jeven. I always enjoy your posts.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
I just got a dji spark and I took some photos and came up blurry does it have settings for picture quality?
Were you moving the drone when it took photos?
THANK YOU LOVED IT
Thanks!
Great Video, excellent Information. Thank you. BTW Loving your Titles, where are they from and what is the name of them?
Very crystal explanation! Thanks
Awesome!
Return to Home: I hit it, the drone went straight up and detonated in the trees above. Why did that happen?
If you still don’t know what happened, by pushing the return to home button, the drone flies to a adjustable elevation to avoid trees, buildings, etc. that might be between home and the drone
Great video very helpful - just purchased a spark.
Supercool tips !! thanx
Great Video, great tips, this help a lot for the BEGINNER like me, I got my DJI Mavic Pro,Thank you so much.
Awesome!!
Great ideas! Some aren't going to be options for me. I have just bought a drone but it has no gimbals. All photos and videos will be saved on my phone. Flight time is only seven minutes. But I have to start with what I can afford. I have not yet flown it. It's been raining...
