How To Go Onto Someone Else’s Land In Fiji_Vlog 131

  • Last week, we went on a fishing picnic to a secret beach we’ve always wanted to visit. Our journey started with a scenic drive to the village, where we followed the local custom of Sevusevu by presenting it to the chief. With his blessing, we headed to the traditional land for our picnic.
As we trekked through the rough terrain, we encountered surprises like a pig trap with a pig caught inside. After carefully avoiding it, we made it to the secluded beach.
Once there, we relaxed, started fishing, and cooked our catch over charcoal. Even though we didn't catch many fish, we had a great time laughing and enjoying each other's company around the fire.

Appreciate the process been followed in our culture today. I think they should have go to the turaga ni koros house first before they go see the turaga ni Yavusa. But great to see this is still happening. Vinaka WAKA

Yes you’re very correct. Actually we didn’t show it but first we went to the Turaga Ni Koro’s house but he was gone to town so we were shown where the Turaga ni Yavusa’s house was and told to go there. We went there and only his wife was home and she told us ti go meet him up on the hill, hence why we ended up doing the sevusevu on the side of the road. But we thought it would have taken too long to show all that running around lol. So you are correct. Anyone’s channel into an unrelated village should be through the Turaga ni Koro👍🏾. Thanks for catching this.

Quite interesting, to see this tradition still practiced today. I think this is one of the main differences between the Pacific islands' culture to other parts of the world.

Yes! Asking permission is very important, but it doesn't just apply to Fijian land, it also applies to freehold land as well! Another great video guys! I hope whoever has the pig for dinner doesn't find it's meat too tough! It would have been very stressed if it was stuck there for a while. Love having the marshmallows on the beach. Is Fijian smores marshmallow on cabin crackers? 🤣

Very very true about asking permission on freehold land as well. And yeah, I’ve never heard of cabin crackers! Haha…might have to start using that one

Found it interesting how the bloke in the yellow shirt held his finger on his inner elbow whilst shaking the Elders hand. I've seen that done before . 👍🏾

You made the right choice not taking the pig to the chief. It might not be his trap and the person to whom the trap belongs to might come to check his trap when it gets dark.
