Retconned into what? That fact that he's still alive with unnecessary plot twist or the fact that we get to see the good side of him only for him return being a butthole darwinist again?
@@popothecat9760Crazy how they changed the good story we had for Heihachi to a different one that was kind of decent too, to just going back to every other Tekken game again
Heihachi died in Tekken 5 and supposedly went to literal Hell. His own power broke him out after his body was blown up by JackBots in his own mansion. What the living FUCK??
Jin gets to 'redeem' himself with friends and bonds he's never had. Gets a zenkai boost from mommy with a one time transformation. Gets to move on after being the worst criminal in history. Oh, and everyone loves him I guess.
Oh, and Heihachi's back, and he's evil again. Those scenes sprinkled throughout Tekken 7 implying regret and remorse over his life? They never happened. Consume product, and be excited for new product.
The final fight between devil kazuya and angel jin was absolutely peak imo. It was the best ending to the mishima saga. But when Heihachi came back, the final battle immediately became meaningless. It’s clear now that Harada is no better than any other company. Greed.
I mean yall can't say that when the dlc plans had to be changed cause of your leaks. U cant leak future content. Force a. Company to remake newer content in a shorter turnaround time then turn around and call them greedy. Namco is greedy and has forced the developers into that position but this scenario isn't necessarily one of them because fans messed with the product first
@@elijah1100 How do you know the leaks were real? And Harada said in an Gstar interview season 1 an d2 have been worked on beore. Also do you really think they animated this shit in 6 months?
Honestly, the ending for this game kinda confirmed that Tekken 4 was the peak of Tekken's canon story, as its finale was essentially a carbon copy of that (Kazuya trying to get more powerful Jin gaining control of his devil form, Jun's spirit convincing him to spare Kazuya, even the hint towards Angel Jin). The DLC was frustrating, as it did two of the things I have been begging the main story to do, have characters acknowledge Jin's villainy in Tekken 6 and focus on characters outside of the Mishimas. Unfortunately, they did this in the worst way possible. Eddy immediately forgave Jin unconditionally, so the first idea was rendered meaningless, and the time we spent with the new characters was pointless as all their character development happened offscreen, they did nothing significant and were then unceremoniously defeated. I know, they have a power scale to maintain, but since Heihachi was still recovering and still isn't ready with his plan after the main story, they could have easily had them temporarily incapacitate him and force him to retreat. Barring that, they could have easily given them some kind of meaningful character interaction with Heihachi. Imagine if he offered Yoshimitsu assistance with rebuilding the Manji Clan, promised Eddy revenge on Kazuya (or even Jin, imagine how cool it would have been if Eddy didn't immediately forgive Jin and it was seeing the monster the desire for Vengeance twisted Heihachi into that convinced Eddy to forgive Jin) and told Lidia the truth about her family cooperating with him in the past (as was hinted at in some of her bios, and would also explain the handwritten letter, which this story never did), that would have made their decision to oppose him actually mean something. Or imagine if they confronted the fact that they willingly consented to brainwashing a human being, that their "heroism" was hypocritical. Speaking of Heihachi, everything about his story was terrible. His character development and nuance from Tekken 7 (which was foreshadowed by the bios in Tekkens 1-3) was thrown out the window. The way he survived was idiotic and made no logistical sense, Kazuya was watching the entire time (it also contradicts his intro dialogues, which state that he fell in the lava), the Tekken Monks ended up being insignificant, idiotic (really, trusting Heihachi just because they brainwashed him?) fodder and his memory returning felt completely contrived. I was actually looking forward to his return, but this was garbage. Honestly, it would have been better if they showed the story of how Lidia and Yoshimitsu saved Eddy from Kazuya, and just had Heihachi be badass enough to survive through sheer willpower and climb out of the volcano of his own volition, the way they did it was the worst of both worlds, a nonsensical explanation while making him look weak. P.S. I hope subsequent DLCs act as Sequels rather than prequels. We already know that no major character development or changes to the status quo will happen in this time period, so prequels feel pointless in this instance. P.P.S. Giving Reina the Devil Gene was a massive mistake, she's way cooler when she has to use her intellect to get by.
I like your idea of Heihachi manipulating Yoshi, Eddy, and Lidia, it could've worked, but nope "haha Heihachi never dies and is strong af, defeat Lidia and Eddy defeat everyone!"
I hope they get a fucking writer. The way hei came back could have been sooooo much better. Especially in one of his intro he say "some lava won't kill me".. brother, you weren't in öave, but i would have believed him to survive in there for multiple minutes. Let the fucking lava revieve his heart or some shit than a deus ex machina moment
Having the T8 story read out made me realize how terrible Tekken has become, how all potential was squandered by horrendous writing all to keep characters stuck in what they've been doing for ages. It's sad, since this is a saga beloved to me, but we can't do much except just try and get the good out of... whatever Tekken is becoming.
It's really sad. Other fighting games at least try to progress their characters and storylines. Look at SF6 and how it evolved it's veteran cast, look at how King of Fighters creates a new saga every 3 canon games, and MK1 (despite all of its problems) at least tried to reinvent the Mortal Kombat lore and universe after MK11.
Jin: You're not going to kill me? Miguel: I won't, I don't forgive you, but I can see you've changed, go kill Heihachi, you can do it Jin! PEAK TEKKEN WRITING
Tekken’s story gets worse every installment. The lack of effort put into Tekken 8’s story is just flat out lazy. I know fighting games don’t typically focus on story, but the lack of effort put in to T8’s story is just abysmal.
@thenewkalpa last risk they took was t6 and me personally I though it was interesting character development for jin showing that he really isn't no better than heihachi or kazuya at heart, and they confirmed that in t8 but did nothing with it just washed it away for jins power of friendship ending, but also we know they never are gonna show jin with any personality other than silently stare and say nothing or be a depressed mommas boy.
I'm more weirded out that Heihachi accepts Reina for having the devil gene despite one of his motivation is either killing everyone who have the devil gene or gaining/stealing the power of it
The fact that Harada refuses to make Asuka a relevant character in the story is really disappointing. Out of all of the major fighting game franchises, Tekken's story is clearly the worse on average.
Uh in Tekken 1, Kazuya wanted revenge for being thrown off a cliff when he was a kid. In Tekken 2, Kazuya was thrown in a volcano. Also...Jun wanted to save Kazuya and empathized with him. T8 reveals that they were in a relationship and Heihachi took Kazuya from her. He didn't outright ABANDON anyone. Half The devil gene escaped Kazuya and tried to possess Jin while he was still in his mother's womb. Jun was NOT kidnapped. She tried her best to fight off Ogre but was unsuccessful. Jin tried helping her but to no avail and was knocked out. Jin woke up...and his mother was nowhere to be found and was never heard from again. Prior to this...Jun sensed an evil presence and told Jin to find his grandfather, Heihachi if something were to happen.. In Tekken 4, Jin defeated Heihachi and Kazuya and spared Heihachi. Your facts are off quite a bit.
Yeah idk why he didn't mention. Jin being in the wing of heihachi and developing affection for his grandpa until being betrayed by him. Making jin depressed and broken ultimately abandoning family tradition and fighting style. Also in Tekken 4 the dtruggle between fatger son and the devil. T3 and t4 are peak stories. They could've handled jin being a villian in t6 a little better. While kazuya was planning to awaken azazel in t6 but jin was already doing it. So he waited. Could've been more subtle. They could've made t8 better by making it dark just like all of the other Tekken were. Not everything is peaches and creamville
He's just yapping and he didn't even know the story fully but anyway how can we taken seriously a story where is boxing Kangaroo,Raptor and Mishima Karate style fighter bears, nanomachine robot Barbie and aliens
@@karolyzenkovics5114 I dont think him getting minor details wrong changes anything. Irregardless of whether Tekken has comic elements or not that doesnt stop it from lacking a grounded story that makes sense thematically and within the world that it is in. Rather than characters going completely against their series-long motivations for no good reason.
The lava wasn’t even supposed to be what killed Heihachi in Tekken 7. It was framed in such a way that Kazuya’s last punch stopped his heart. Who thought a guy catching him before he hit lava was a good idea?!!
Not to mention he had convenient amnesia, despite the fact he was punched in the chest, not in the head This story is literally insult to our brain cells.
It's crazy to think that watching your video gave me an extra reason to completely LOATHE Nina. How in the hell does no one bring up the fact that she does nothing but flip flop and ruin her sister's life? What singular, helpful thing has she done for any of the Mishima's? Anyone? I can't even tell if it's intentional at this point. And the fact that Yoshi of all people would be willing to entertain a reformed Heihachi is wild. Yoshi is an OOOG, been around since day one, he knows what the Mishima clan is all about, secret sect be damned, he wouldn't risk it for a second. Crazy to think that T8 has done this for almost every character too. At least Jack-8 is living his best life with Jane I guess...
Nina has failed every assassination job given to her that wasn't targeted at an npc. Nevermind the Mishimas, she can't kill any other cast member. So all she does is act smug and walk around getting paychecks despite being the worst hitman. The only w's she gets is in bullying her sister who just wants to be left alone.
Why do Jin and asuka have no dialogue with each other, it actually makes no sense.(The only time they talk is from a non canon ending from Tekken 5 I believe.
@@arafahmed6662 literally all of 7’s marketing was “The end of the Mishima Saga” and Heihachi had a pretty satisfying death at the end of the story mode. And then Harda immediately retconned it by having some random monk be waiting IN A VOLCANO to snatch Harada’s favourite just before he could hit the lava, while Kazuya watched the entire thing and did nothing. Absolutely mentally challenged writing.
@@wesleygriffiths8748 “the end of the Mishima saga” my arse, At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if tekken 9 is the last game only for it to end with Jin and Kazuya somehow getting the devil gene back
It boggles my mind that the Tetsuman Tekken Manga, a manga made for weebs, is a better story than the recent tekken stories from 6 to 8 with the DLC, it actually made sense, everyone was relevant to the story, and we even got the Asuka Jin interaction that I was craving for, it even gave me a healthy exposure of Jin vs Kazuya, even with their devil form!
I think the worst part about the Kazama plot is that Jun is supposed to be "The Chosen One" in her family (iirc it was stated in her TK2 bio), the one who has the strongest spiritual connections. So you'd think she'd be well known in the family for this but I guess not??? I feel like something like this wouldn't be ignored in such a family where their power is to heal or something around the lines. Also, apparently Harada himself stated that Asuka and Jin AREN'T cousins. She's just related to Jun (I'm guessing distant relative). I personally think it's stupid but he's the creator he can do whatever with his characters I suppose
It explains that her family was afraid of her because they thought she was weird, they weren't really believers of the spiritual stuff. They basically isolated Jun, which is why she turned to animals as comfort.
@zerofudou5689 I think that's only in Tekken 8? I'll need to double check. Cause in T2 the wording made it seem like they were already all about that stuff and her power made her special in a positive way
I'd say the last good bit of story we got was from Tekken 4 then it went downhill from there. TEkken 5 was alright, but still not as good as 4 storywise. I think they had actual writers for the story in TEkken 4. But TEkken 4 wasn't received well, and the devs for some strange reason thought it was because of the serious setting.. It wasn't. It was received poorly because of: A. Poor movement. b. Poor balance. Jin with his JF Laser Scraper abuse and Steve with his good movement in comaprison wit the rest of the cast. c. "lack" of characters. This came after TTT1 which had a big cast, but it's unfair to compare as a lot of characters were pretty much reskins. But that's jus tmy 2 cents. EDIT: Paul's T4 ending is his true ending.
Perfectly good story "But what if we add *dramatic pause* EUGENICS TO THE MIX" "NO DON'T DO IT!!" [retcons the superpower to be in the blood and ruins the story] "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Tekken 8 was supposd to be the end of the Mishima Saga, but the status quo doesn't change at all by the end of the game. The Mishima Saga is still in full swing, and the game story became pointless.
1. Jin knocking the color out of Kazuya’s pants will forever be hilarious as fuck to me. 2. Jun remains asleep through WW3. Do what you will with that information.
If I had to fix the Heihachi retcon It would have been Lidia and co. didn’t trust Heihachi like the monks did and while sparring with them he can sense their fear and hatred for who he used to be which ends up being the thing to return his memories. Then he would go on a rant about how the whole world is now a part of his cycle of hatred and so they can never kill him, because he’ll always be top dog and nothing can stop him from crashing out. Or something man idk this story is such a mess lmao
I loved the T8 story. Jin feels a lot of internal guilt about his war mongering. He intended to die as penance against Azazeal and Kazuya. It’s more implicit and not spoonfeed. As we know at the end it’s fine for him to “want to live” than the showdown against Kazuya was just Rocky vs Drago levels of hype. Heichachi not dying is stupid though.
Excellent video.. this just about perfectly sums up my frustration with the story as an avid fan since T3, but I need to make two points that the video left out.. One, Reina's entire existence doesn't make sense to me. Heihachi externinated the Hachijo clan .. so how is she a survivor being THAT young? There's no way Heihachi waited years, potentially two decades to exterminate them when he off'd Jinpachi, Kazuya, and took the reigns of the Mishima Zaibatsu. That means he had to exterminate them around the time Jin was being conceived. Secondly, one thing I will compliment the game for was the final battle between Jin and Kazuya. There was one scene that showed us arguably the most emotion and character we've seen from Kazuya, and that was when he had Jin pinned against the wall. Kazuya hesitated to hit Jin. He even paused his sentences and had a look of regret before striking him. I feel like, at that point, he honestly cared about Jin, was proud of him, and respected his resilience. Someone brought to my attention that in T7, it was ON SIGHT with Heihachi. Kazuya was always hostile. But in T8 in the prologue, he simply looks to Jin and says, "what do you want?" He had no beef nor malice against Jin. I like that detail.
I stopped paying attention to Tekkens story after T7. T7 shows that Bamco doesn't care about creating a good story, especially the character episodes that don't actually say anything. The only purpose for the story in modern Tekken is to be pure spectacle and nothing else.
DOPE VID It’s cool to see vids like this and people not completely overshadowing tekkens great aspects Love the story/gameplay intensely and will continue playing DAH!!!
tekken 2 angel was the manifestation of the good residing inside kazuya, the same way devil was the evil counterpart inside kaz. which is why angel had mishima style karate. no point in tekken 2 ever connected angel to jun.
To expand on that, he missed the part where Angel's essence attached to Jun once she became pregnant with Jin. Jin basically absorbed Angel in Jun's womb hints Devil Jin's black angel wings and transformation into Angel Jin.
Once they announced Heihachi was coming back I was hoping for some kind and force ghost B.S. The fact he's survived means we'll NEVER get that very VERY tired plotline concluded.
@@RoyArkon nah mk story has been bad since midway left has some good ideas but doesn't go anywhere constantly wastes potential so much a guy has a series on it lmao
12:36 I hated that cutscene so much. Like what do you mean you don't know who's Jin or Jun? Asuka can't even talk to Jin about their own fucking family tree but Lili can talk to Jin about it? Like why even make Asuka a Kazama if you're just gonna treat her like she doesn't even exist? On the overall story it wants its cake and eat it too. It wants the impact Tekken 7 had without wanting to abide by the consequences. By doing stuff like hyping up Jun's return without her doing anything. Killing off Claudio and Zafina and then just having them okay by the end. Getting rid of the Devil Gene, only to show Reina inherited it. And again, like you said, bringing back Heihachi through DLC
Where's Mokujin during this story? His whole character is that he is awakened when the earth is in danger & yet he's nowhere to be seen. Also, about Asuka & Jin being cousins: Harada said that it's more deep than that so I always thought they were 2nd cousins, even if Harada's word isn't worth spit now. What with the whole 'Heihachi is completely dead' thing.
Honestly you should have said the baffling part. Where zafina RAN HEAD FIRST to the bad guy that needed her Plot Mcguffin. I could not understand that when I played the story.
I like the t8 story for what it is, but the tekken story in general been trash since t5. There's actually not enough screen time to even do anything. Everything is just straight to the point. My biggest issue with the story is that jin is all like im too weak i cant do anything i dont expect forgivness when nobody in the story even cares about what he did, so theres no reason for jin to even be like that. Like theres no characters in the story that holds jin accountable for what he does or how he acts. Like hwoarang can easily fill that role since literally his entire story is about jin. Have hwoarang not buy the whole jin act and still see him as a monster because literally devil jin only contribution in the story is being crazy jin and fighting hwoarang. Plus a nitpick i have with that chapter is why is it never explained or brought up on how jin gets his devil powers back when fighting hwoarang more so lars and lee. I understand reina cause shes using mishima style, but jin never explained his history or anything with hwoarang so why does his devil come out against him and nobody else and not even questioned. They couldve used that to set up jin not only apologizing to lars about t6 but also to hwoarang for literally tourtering him for like 4 games straight. That little change or just have more extra scenes to let flesh stuff out instead of just having characters do stuff that seem in character is just ......... disappointing
The reason why he turned against Hwoarang is very simple, because even though Jin hid it, he really sees him as his rival, 5 even confirms that they had a promise to have a rematch, so for the simple fact of not wanting to lose to him, technically Hwoarang's ending already showed that when devil Jin attacks him, a scene that is seen in Jin's memories in Tekken 8, so apparently his devil form confused Hwoarang as some kind of threat just because of that desire.
angel being jun is now wierd af to hear because harada made this long tweet about the characters birthdays and angel and jun have different days, idk whats going on
dude i have seen fanfics that actually are able to write good stories wich is why im fine with ignoring the canon lmao, also screw victor as another rival to dragunov, he is my fav but his story also gets mostly ignored by me, just because he is non verbal that doesnt mean he cant do anything
Dude, I came across this video on New Year’s Day, and I absolutely loved your analysis. Your commentary is hilarious; you just won a subscriber! Thank you for this funny video! Literally, so many questions. The story is so funny because it’s so stupid! Happy New Year, brother!
I don’t disagree with a single thing you said but none of this bothers me lmao. Idk why. Happiness is a function of expectation, and my expectation for a plot for a cheesy anime Japanese fighting game is actually on the floor. It’s so absurd that it actually adds to the entertainment value for me.
The only thing that actually bothered me was how they’ve taken a really cool character inspired by Bruce Lee, and turned him into a greedy heel clown that possesses zero wisdom. It’s kind of insulting to the legacy of Bruce Lee imo
I think its good to manage your expectations, which is why I'm not surprised or disappointed by the Tekken story. However, I do like to review works of fiction with some rigor occasionally, and Tekken usually falls apart under that pressure. I think it's possible to maintain a good narrative and keep those "absurd" elements; I'd love to see the story go back in this direction. Cause like you mentioned, law used to be an actual character with motivations and interesting characterization 💀
Thank you for the correction! I believe that she worked for both Jin and Kazuya, and was assassinated when working with/for Kazuya. In TEKKEN 6, it was Leo's hope to prove Kazuya did it, but I don't think they ever were able to. So, it is inconclusive as to who or what did it, but it is heavily implied to be Kazuya (even though he didn't have a motive, he's just Kazuya)
I think you brought up fair points against the story that i can't really argue against. Jin not fully facing his crimes during T6 will always be a major sticking point against his arc in T8. Especially when the major point of this main story was him owning up to his past mistakes and accepting and loving himself. I think i just can't help but love it anyway because i loooove the ideas T8's story has for him. A Character who, as you say, has been wracked and defined by his self-doubt for most of the series, finally learns how to accept himself. I think that ch.15 fight was such a perfect culmination of his arc. Him going through all of the fighting styles he has learned, including the mishima style, as a way to showcase him finally accepting all sides of himself as a person, it's one of the best story moments in the series. I am also just heavily partial towards this type of arc lol. I think there should be a future DLC season where Miguel finds Jin after the main story of Tekken 8 and confronts him about his crimes since Miguel is the one guy who suffers the most at Jin's wrongdoings in T6. Just so they can at least partially fill in the game's plotholes
Before I proceed watching this vid - I think the main story is okayish, not that bad. A lot of cool moments and pretty good dynamics and things happening with side characters. Main villain Kazuya is bae, he’s just generally one of the best characters in Tekken, I wish his player base was less disgusting unfortunately. The glaring issue is the personality of Jin Kazama and everything surrounding him, he’s like the most boring war criminal ever. The guy full on started World War 3 for Azazel to appear who was subdued by Zafina anyway, but people around him are like “Well, it’s okay, as long as you have a good heart” Like what? Xiaoyu is dumb by association, like sis, why you chasing this brooding young adult with teenager mindset war criminal mess, Leroy is right there, with a dog too. The Heihachi DLC is just horrendous though. The worst kind of plot is the one that is moved forward by a “dumb bitch behavior” how I call it. In what fucking world that Tekken Clan decided that taking the most evil man on the planet and training him to become stronger with some fucking secret overpowered technique is a good idea? What? And three bobble heads - Lidia, Eddy and Yoshi of all people, are like, yeah, sounds about right, we’re good. Hated every minute of the new chapter, but the main story is okay, like an upper mid anime with cool action but terrible protagonist.
I think it would be interesting to showcase Heihachi raising Kazuya after throwing him off a cliff. Maybe explain why he decided to raise him/what he hoped to do. The devil gene retcon in T7 was annoying but aside from it being hereditary, they’ve remained pretty consistent with the lore. It makes sense, even before the Hachijo reveal, that part of the devil would be passed down to the child of Kazuya. And everyone (not counting the Hachijos because we don’t know) activate their devil power the same exact way - being in a life or death situation. Not knowing Ogre’s origins kinda adds to the story for me. We already have demons, angels and cyber ninjas, so an Aztec warrior who only wants to fight strong people isn’t too big of a stretch. The absolute character assassination that happened to Jin in 6 however is absolutely terrible. And it could have been so simple to add in story beats explaining that Azazel was affecting Jin’s judgement due to him slowing gaining power from all of the conflict specifically involving the Devil Gene. One thing I agree with you 100% on is Jun. To have her playable in a titled entry, and featured prominently in promotional materials, only to not speak a single word is genuinely unconscionable.
Well the hachijo's werent really innocent from heihachi's pov. They sent a spy to marry him and murder him in the event he becomes evil because he was already strong as fudge. So it was revenge for forcing his hand in killing kazumi which is supposed to be the catalyst that pushes him full on evil and not just a so-so father. In his mind she would still be alive if they didnt send her. And realistically he probably likely wouldnt have become evil if kazumi never showed up. Everything heihachi kazuya was forced to go through is a direct result of kazumi being killed.
@Takejiro24 well as far as im aware it was done before the events of tekken 1 so it's likely that it was after kazumi but before throwing kaz off the cliff. Seeing as jinpachi was the founder of the mishima zaibatsu (at that time the head), it would be the most likely time line of events leading into tekken 1. Hei marrys kazumi, hei kills kazumi, hei kills the hachijo clan minus reina, hie throws kazuya of a cliff to check if he inherited the devil gene, hei is confronted by jinpachi (who is canonically a good guy until he is reanimated by some evil source in t5, prob. Azazel), hei beats jinp and imprisons himwhere he dies of starvation, kazuya returns to get revenge on hei for the murder of his mother and the *attempted* murder of himself, tekken 1 happens. Edit: its also mentioned in t7 that the initial events are more or less in that order. Pretty cool story to be honest. Nobody is a true good guy in the mishimas besides pre-resurrected jinpachi, that just makes the story more interesting to me. The only person who can be justified to root for was jinpachi but now he's dead, leaving us with maniacal grandpa, genocidal maniac father, assassin brother with good looks, the other brother who supports jin, the chaos creator murderer of hundreds of thousands. But hey theres always paul.....
The way that you describe This , this is you making this sound like The fast and furious of fighting games I mean , I like the video , but for anyone who's never played any of the tacking games , that's what they're going to think probably
Honestly 8 is an improvement over 7's which, not only super stupid it took itself too serious (it ends with a quote by Oscar Wylde for f*cks sake 🤦🏻) But yeah then Heihachi coming back to life, really cranks the shit-knob to 11
Story expansion reads like a god damn fanfiction. "A-A-and she's actually an ANGEL. And he's a devil! they loved each other because nobody understood them :( so my main character, their son, is actually half ANGEL and Half DEVIL."
All I gotta say is, as an Alisa main, they did her DIRTY with the Jack 8 scene, she should have won that fight (that and having her have to be saved by Asuka and Lili just made her seem pathetic, which, if you look at her abilities alone, she’s not)
Even crazier when you consider the fact that she's a robot designed to fight in combat, and she only fights one person (and loses). You figure she would be a great asset to have during the Tekken Civil War between Jin and Kazuya, but no!
Just when you thought that the Mishima rivalry ended with this game, and that the other characters will finally get some focus, they went ahead and resurrected Heihachi ensuring that the Mishima plot line will never end and will just repeat over and over again.
I was not expecting that RWBY Volume 9 comparison with how quickly Ruby gets over her grief and burdens because her mom (Summer) said she thinks she's fine enough Vs. Tekken 8 where Jin just gets over his regrets because Jun did the same thing. And yet for some reason it bothered me more there than it does here
The story of Tekken 8 tried to save something that had been wrong with the previous games, although bringing back Heihachi was a mistake. The problems really started with Tekken 4 when bringing back Kazuya a character that clearly didn't know what to do with him and even reconnecting the devil gene, that even brought back the Mishima conflict and forced Jin to be part of it when he wasn't interested, 6 did the next worst damage because of what they did with Jin's story which was something clearly out of character, about Miguel he was really just a filler character to make that plot work more but he was never that important it's weird how some talk about him now, as if he were very relevant, when even canonically he doesn't even know Jin, and that's why he hasn't come back until now, nor is he interesting or worth seeing him return.
The story is such a mess that the only good alternative is to reboot the whole thing and leave it in the hands of actual capable writers. Unfortunately that'll never happen cause Harada and Co are too proud and love to gloat about that world record of longest running storyline in video game history. It's getting increasingly hard to hope for the story to improve now. What wouldn't I give for some talented artists to take the elements of the plot and turn them into a Manga so good that it attracts the attention of the whole world and the voice actors and BNE have no choice but to acknowledge the superior version!
It's funny how only Miguel got his hands on Jin during his Character Episode but spares him because he was being moody and depressing when that didn't stop him from dropping a killstreak on his sister. Also, Noooooooooo, not the Summer comparison for Jun 🤣 But yeah, the constant retconning of the Devil(Gene) puts Angel as a concept into question. I initially saw her as the latent goodness or the vestiges of humanity remaining in Kazuya, brought forth by interacting with Jun, which would explain why with her gone, that goodness is gone. Then the Devil becomes a cursed hereditary gene with a personality of its own that Kazuya conquers in Tekken 4, something Jin failed to do and loses control over in 5 and hospitalizes Hwoarang. That is until Tekken 6 when Jin, I guess through therapy with Azazel, strikes accord with the Devil in him... and now in Tekken 8, the Devil Gene was "protecting" him and for some reason, when combined with the Kazama power, he becomes an Angel. If we exclude Kazuya, I can understand Jin's Devil Gene if you instead look at it as an amplifier of his desires; 1. In T3, when Jin is shot in the head, prior to the shot, he was surrounded and confused. With a bullet being as fast as it is, I don't think there was enough time for him to process the betrayal and form a desire to murder Heihachi, which is why Jin uses Heihachi as a cannon ball to blast his way out of there and escape-a natural reflex in such situations. 2. In T5, Devil Jin attacks Hwoarang, who we can reasonably assume he considers a rival and dare I say, friend. If we take his desire to progress in the 5th tournament to end his bloodline into consideration along with his mental fortitude already being eaten away by the Devil Gene, Hwoarang served as a foil to his desire by defeating him. By falling unconscious, like when he got shot, the Devil awakens to take the reins and eliminates the foil. Though, since Hwoarang is still alive, he still has some level of consciousness to dictate where the line is drawn. He probably awakened from that encounter. It's the only justification I can come to if you think of how Jin out of nowhere knows how to utilize the Devil Gene to generate force fields in Tekken 6. 3. I have nothing for T7 that is remotely palatable.
I feel like Miguel is the exact kind of character to beat Jin, while he's down. IMO it didn't make sense for Miguel to take pity upon him because Miguel's life was turned completely upside down because of Jin. And Miguel wins the IDGAF Olympics out of any Tekken character. He went from an alcoholic to an alcoholic with a dead sister! The angel thing is even more confusing because Harada went out of his way to say Angel was NOT canon, just to do what he did in T8. I like the idea of DJ looking out for Jin in his own fucked up way, even though the actual execution wasn't the best. You could look at Devil Kazuya being destructive as the same thing. Like he destroys stuff indiscriminately to protect himself in a "kill or be killed" kind of way. The main issue with the overarching narrative of Tekken is that there are so many good ideas and ethical questions presented, but in the worst execution ever. It's genuinely stunning sometimes how bad they mess up an amazing premise.
13:51 im sorry but thats just japanese culture its normal to be in a clan and have the same surname and same fighting style a good example is the uchiha clan having the same fighting style and surname so that just means that the kazama name is a clan you cant be simple minded having these criticisms 💀
LMAO only internet buffoons "hate" MK1 story, they only "hate" it for the likes on social media like you do, Tekken story however is actually hated, and in quantity as well.
@@_GuiltyGhost LOL MK1 has no issues at all, and the only reason Tekken 8's issues were "not apparent" is because that the entire FGC was in the honeymoon phase for T8, and also FGC's bias in favor of Tekken in general, but the issues were there from the start: Barely any single player content, terrible customization, horrible netcode, no penalty against cheaters and rage quitters, horrible DLC practices, everything was all at launch and that was BEFORE the shop and the battle pass that were added post-launch.
well he missed the side story cutscenes with jun on how she was alive she was in a coma for seven years in the spirutal realm after beating ogre and wakes up when jin and kazuya fought each other. There is also the archive dlcs where we get cutscens of jun waking up helping jin and leo reuninting with their dad. even got journal entires for jun and leo's mom with a timeline on the games and the events even the fate of the hachijos
@vikingfromnorth45 all of this was mentioned in the video. It is all stupid and bad lol. They (very obviously) didn't know how to write her story, since they wanted to keep her alive. So they just said she was sleeping. I also mention the Leo scene, thought it was cute. I also touched on the Reina Hachijo reveal.
@@Adieu_tk okay we are getting more story dlc and more characters this is just the first season. Also past interviews metnion jun was not dead just missing. Like give reina a chance she is the most popular newcomer since her reveal
@@vikingfromnorth45 Having Jun be alive in any way is probably the worst decision they could make narratively for her. It makes her appearance seem completely arbitrary, like why couldn't she have woken up earlier? Jin seems like an idiot for not seeking her out in any way. Clearly, with the way spiritual power works in T8 (whatever way the writers want), he could have gone to Yakushima and hit her up on Soul Skype or whatever.
You clearly don't understand these games let alone having ever truly played them. Tekken 7 was meant to be the end after tekken 5 was the end and tekken 3 was "the end". Every even number game besides 2 sucks story wise. It's not so much about the story than a reason for the new game to even exist. They're just having fun at this point.
So I agree that the story sucks but...so does practically every other fighting game plot. Tekken isn't unique when to comes to the story being bad that's basically a given for the genre. Fighting game stories are either overly complicated for no reason, boring, or just flat out awful. There are exceptions like Guilty gear and skullgirls but even they suffer from problems as well. I ain't disagreeing with what everyone's saying but I have to ask what did you expect?
At same time though fighting games having bad stories is so common that I find it more reasonable to expect them to be bad. I want good fighting game stories like everyone else but it's just not something I expect out of the genre you know? I will say however if there's one thing in Tekken's story I will defend it's the writing regarding, Jin. I am willing to explain why but it'd be a long explanation so if you wanna hear it be my guest.
Sindel didn't kill anyone in MK11, only in MK9 she killed everyone. In MK1 Sindel from Titan Shang Tsung's timeline killed the good Sindel from the main timeline. As for Tekken story, it's pure trash, there's no reason to care about Tekken story anymore. Mortal Kombat is THE ONLY fighting game story that matters, MK1 story is PHENOMENAL, period.
I NEED Miguel to come back because we need him to beat Jins ass. It'd be hilarious to have Jin be happy only to die to Miguel like Miguel promised he'd do. Now he has an actual chance since Jin in lore is no longer a devil
This is hyperbole maybe but id rather have it to where heihachis revealed to be a kryptonian who was sent to destroy all humans instead of just a dude in a volcano Also i really wish paul came in to beat kazuyas ass but that rivalry is more dead than half the side chars plotlines...

How did he lose it?
@GordonFreeman-e7i In the Hworang section in seven, he fights Devil Jin, who he protects from a grenade thrown by a soldier after their battle.
It's more the DLC story and Heihachi being retconned that ruined the main story for me, because the main story was truly an interesting one.

Bringing back Heihachi has ruined both Tekken 7 & 8 stories.
The final fight between devil kazuya and angel jin was absolutely peak imo. It was the best ending to the mishima saga. But when Heihachi came back, the final battle immediately became meaningless. It’s clear now that Harada is no better than any other company. Greed.

Like Kuma and Paul are friends now
It's really sad.
@ yeah but bison came back. Also kof revived their dead recently and mk reboots kinda had some hard times

Tekken 4 was the last game in the series with a good story
Facts!!! 💯
Tekken 5 is also good.
Tekken’s story gets worse every installment. The lack of effort put into Tekken 8’s story is just flat out lazy. I know fighting games don’t typically focus on story, but the lack of effort put in to T8’s story is just abysmal.
You mained the side story and dlc extra cutscenes and archives
It's a good experience, but tekken story been trash since t5
@thenewkalpa last risk they took was t6 and me personally I though it was interesting character development for jin showing that he really isn't no better than heihachi or kazuya at heart, and they confirmed that in t8 but did nothing with it just washed it away for jins power of friendship ending, but also we know they never are gonna show jin with any personality other than silently stare and say nothing or be a depressed mommas boy.
@thenewkalpa ogre, jinpachi, azazel, and kazumi are dead and wang adn baek didn't come back
I know Tekken 4 was the “worst” Tekken but I felt like it did the most with the story. I really liked everyone’s story in that installment.
I'm more weirded out that Heihachi accepts Reina for having the devil gene despite one of his motivation is either killing everyone who have the devil gene or gaining/stealing the power of it

@@Adieu_tk That's the only reason. Probably waiting to extract it from her when she manifests it. (Like Jin vs Ogre)
All the shit around Kazama family but not a single line of dialogue between Jin and Asuka😂
The fact that Harada refuses to make Asuka a relevant character in the story is really disappointing. Out of all of the major fighting game franchises, Tekken's story is clearly the worse on average.
Nothing is topping Tekken 4 Story
Tekken 5 had potential too.
The lava wasn’t even supposed to be what killed Heihachi in Tekken 7. It was framed in such a way that Kazuya’s last punch stopped his heart. Who thought a guy catching him before he hit lava was a good idea?!!
Not to mention he had convenient amnesia, despite the fact he was punched in the chest, not in the head
This story is literally insult to our brain cells.

I like the part where Eddy survives and explosion and dissipates the flames with the power of capoeira
there's a reason Chad turned off the story mode after Eddy did that 💀
It's crazy to think that watching your video gave me an extra reason to completely LOATHE Nina.
Jun just being a plot device for jin to defeat Kazuya is the part i hate the most about the story. All the wait for nothing so disappointing

Every Jin Mains' Dream.
Tekken 9 leaked yesterday and it was revealed that Azucena is a Mishima and Angel Dr. Bosconovitch will be one of the DLC characters.
Despite the fact that they insist on focusing on the Mishima line, I swear they have no idea what they want to do with them. Especially Heihachi.
Tbh Tekken 4 was the last time the story took itself seriously and wasn't convoluted.
It wasn't. It was received poorly because of:
Perfectly good story

Tekken 8 was supposd to be the end of the Mishima Saga, but the status quo doesn't change at all by the end of the game. The Mishima Saga is still in full swing, and the game story became pointless.
Tekken 6's story was a mistake
Asuka was in the family dinner ending in Tekken Tag 2 with the Mishimas and the Kazamas. Her and Jin are definitely related 😂
7 gave a great ending and expanded on the past a lot.
The cocktease of Jun’s return irritated the mess out of me lol. I hope she is present in a dlc story.
Ret-con seven. Hahaha! Good one!
DOPE VID It’s cool to see vids like this and people not completely overshadowing tekkens great aspects Love the story/gameplay intensely and will continue playing DAH!!!
tekken 2 angel was the manifestation of the good residing inside kazuya, the same way devil was the evil counterpart inside kaz. which is why angel had mishima style karate. no point in tekken 2 ever connected angel to jun.
i sure think it would be cool to just see jun be the angel character tbh
To expand on that, he missed the part where Angel's essence attached to Jun once she became pregnant with Jin. Jin basically absorbed Angel in Jun's womb hints Devil Jin's black angel wings and transformation into Angel Jin.
Once they announced Heihachi was coming back I was hoping for some kind and force ghost B.S.
The fact he's survived means we'll NEVER get that very VERY tired plotline concluded.

Good job! It reminds me of the4thSnake critique of the story of Mortal Kombat games.
Honestly you should have said the baffling part. Where zafina RAN HEAD FIRST to the bad guy that needed her Plot Mcguffin. I could not understand that when I played the story.
Trying to understand how they made the Reina Hachijo fumble led me to realization that Tekken writers probably don't have object permanence

Little correction but Kazuya killed Leo’s mom not Jin
Thank you for the correction! I believe that she worked for both Jin and Kazuya, and was assassinated when working with/for Kazuya. In TEKKEN 6, it was Leo's hope to prove Kazuya did it, but I don't think they ever were able to. So, it is inconclusive as to who or what did it, but it is heavily implied to be Kazuya (even though he didn't have a motive, he's just Kazuya)
@ from what I’ve seen before she was on the board of directors of G Corp and Kazuya killed all of them when he took over the company
Didn't Tekken 8 just retcon her death by saying she is in hiding according to Leo's dad thru free DLC story expansion?
It's pretty much everything you said lmao
@ after I finished the vid - yeah, very much so 🤗
I think it would be interesting to showcase Heihachi raising Kazuya after throwing him off a cliff.
So, him imprisoning Jinpachi underground happened after Kazumi's betrayal?
@@killerkrok55 Makes sense. Thanks for the reply. 👍
@@Takejiro24 no prob bro. Take care.
Sorry I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome that final fight was.
The way that you describe This , this is you making this sound like The fast and furious of fighting games I mean , I like the video , but for anyone who's never played any of the tacking games , that's what they're going to think probably
Honestly 8 is an improvement over 7's which, not only super stupid it took itself too serious (it ends with a quote by Oscar Wylde for f*cks sake 🤦🏻)
But yeah then Heihachi coming back to life, really cranks the shit-knob to 11
Hey great video, I think it would be a fun idea to talk about character's stories from like Lei, Law, King, Paul, Yoshimitsu ect. Loved the video dude
I may have something cooking specifically about that Paul guy and that Law character
And Harada claims he can make a manga 😒😒😒
Story expansion reads like a god damn fanfiction.
"A-A-and she's actually an ANGEL. And he's a devil! they loved each other because nobody understood them :( so my main character, their son, is actually half ANGEL and Half DEVIL."
All I gotta say is, as an Alisa main, they did her DIRTY with the Jack 8 scene, she should have won that fight (that and having her have to be saved by Asuka and Lili just made her seem pathetic, which, if you look at her abilities alone, she’s not)
Also this extends to her apparently not ever canonically winning a fight (at least not on her own), which makes even less sense
Even crazier when you consider the fact that she's a robot designed to fight in combat, and she only fights one person (and loses). You figure she would be a great asset to have during the Tekken Civil War between Jin and Kazuya, but no!
@ exactly, she’s literally built for fighting and could honestly be one of the most powerful characters, but the writers treat her like shit
Just when you thought that the Mishima rivalry ended with this game, and that the other characters will finally get some focus, they went ahead and resurrected Heihachi ensuring that the Mishima plot line will never end and will just repeat over and over again.
Cant wait to see heihachi die again in tekken 9 this will totally be the end to the Mishima saga
I finished this game today and I swear to god, I was laughing my ass off the entire time
I was not expecting that RWBY Volume 9 comparison with how quickly Ruby gets over her grief and burdens because her mom (Summer) said she thinks she's fine enough Vs. Tekken 8 where Jin just gets over his regrets because Jun did the same thing. And yet for some reason it bothered me more there than it does here
It really was ass, and not in a funny way
The story of Tekken 8 tried to save something that had been wrong with the previous games, although bringing back Heihachi was a mistake.
Tekken writers piss me tf off
Same here dude, can't care about the story of Tekken anymore.
I really enjoyed this video very much. I love your humor. A few videos like this and you may earn yourself yet another sub.
The only retcon that makes sense is Kazuya being the winner in Tekken 4
It's funny how only Miguel got his hands on Jin during his Character Episode but spares him because he was being moody and depressing when that didn't stop him from dropping a killstreak on his sister.
Also, Noooooooooo, not the Summer comparison for Jun 🤣
But yeah, the constant retconning of the Devil(Gene) puts Angel as a concept into question.
If we exclude Kazuya, I can understand Jin's Devil Gene if you instead look at it as an amplifier of his desires;
Yet people hated MK1 more
dare I say, both bad actually
LMAO only internet buffoons "hate" MK1 story, they only "hate" it for the likes on social media like you do, Tekken story however is actually hated, and in quantity as well.
@@Adieu_tk LMAO not true, MK1 story is PHENOMENAL! Tekken 8 story is trash
MK1 has other issues than just its story. Tekken 8 does too but it was not as apparent in the first few weeks.
I think the story is great but thats just my opinion
@thenewkalpa gameplay is fine just people need to get used to it
@thenewkalpa I will admit heat system is kinda annoying but this is my first Tekken and I’m absolutely loving it
I think it is a good story, just certain parts just kinda tank it. Plus, everyone was too much on jins dick.
@Adieu! Zafina and Claudio went on a Disney Death.
I too wish it would be better. But I think it's too late.
well he missed the side story cutscenes with jun on how she was alive she was in a coma for seven years in the spirutal realm after beating ogre and wakes up when jin and kazuya fought each other.
@ no one knew about the kazama shrine expect her
Tekken is just downhill after 5-6, nothing good happens
Summary: Fascistic writing from mentally 14-year-olds in their 40s.
So, I have one question. What exactly did you mean when you said that, "Kazuya became a joke character of himself(In Tekken 5)." Can you elaborate?
10:10 aespa reference let's gooooooo
I dont think Reina is the same age as Kazuya, no way.
I think the genocide of the Hachijo family probably took Heihachi like a decade or something
You follow both Tekken and RWBY storylines? Damn, I feel for you. Great video, though.
What annoyed me was in Tekken 7 making Heihachi an anti villain.
I'm pretty sure at this point, Tekken has more retcons than DBZ and Mortal Kombat. Idk about Street Fighter though
If a fighting game adds a story, it's not unreasonable to at least expect the story to be decent.
Nah MK Lore peaked at Deception. The current story is pure booty cheeks 😂
@@WeedShaggy LMAO You are on crack😂🤣, MK1 story is PHENOMENAL!

Good thing Tekken's got gameplay to attract players
I NEED Miguel to come back because we need him to beat Jins ass. It'd be hilarious to have Jin be happy only to die to Miguel like Miguel promised he'd do. Now he has an actual chance since Jin in lore is no longer a devil
Only thing is jin will kick his ass but he won't.
@@afaqfakki6930 Nah Miguel glazing all the way

Yeah he's just a normal human that descended from a devil slaying clan with genetic lightning powers...yeah the alcoholic can take him

This is hyperbole maybe but id rather have it to where heihachis revealed to be a kryptonian who was sent to destroy all humans instead of just a dude in a volcano
Also i really wish paul came in to beat kazuyas ass but that rivalry is more dead than half the side chars plotlines...
They could have gotten away with bringing back heihachi if they left him a good guy but let him keep his charisma and stubbornness in my opinion.
Jin's too manly for you.
