Hi, I found this video very halpful so thank you. I just wanted to explain what the thread numers mean and why they are so confusing. It is actually very simple, the number represents how many meters of thread weigh 1 gramm. So thread number 10 means that 10 meters weigh 1 gramm. That is why the bigger the number the thinner the thread because you'll need more of it to weigh the same. I hope that's cleared things up for everyone ^^.

I love it. I recently watched a different tutorial, which used only one chain between open spaces. I was confused because I kept seeing images that clearly had two Dc to fill in spaces. I can see this gives a much more defined fileted image. Thanks for the great tutorial😊

Filet crochet is one of those areas where it's simple but not necessarily easy! Simple: just open and closed blocks. Not necessarily easy: can take a little bit of playing around to get the blocks nice and even. I'm so glad this tutorial gave you the confidence to tackle filet crochet. Sounds like a lovely project!

For some reason the easy stuff is very hard for me and the difficult stuff is a breeze, crazy I know Lol. Your video is awesome and I can't thank you enough. Now I just need to figure out a sure fire way to know at the beginning how many chains I need so I don't have to keep frogging the first row, I never get past half of the first row without frogging it ! It's very frustrating but I don't give up.

If you do an internet search for "graph letters", it should pop up with a bunch of different alphabet "fonts" on a graph! For instance, I found these letter designs on the Crochet Kim website - crochetkim.com/alphabet-graphs/ You can also try a search that includes the word crochet to find letter graphs that work well for crochet. Something like "crochet graph letters" or "filet crochet letter graphs" will pull up a number of options. Hope this helps!

My great gramma tatted when i was very young. About 48 years ago. She had all kinds of lace doily things she made laying all over her end tables. I looked it up on RUclips a couple years ago to see if anyone still did it. Yes i found some videos. I will check out the channel you suggested.

I don't have a video specific to that, but the technique is essentially the same as is shown in this video! When you say negative filet crochet and wanted it to be inverted, I'm assuming you mean swapping the open and closed blocks? Which means the picture would be visible in the open blocks, while the filled in blocks would be the negative space of the image? If that's what you are meaning, the method is essentially the same. If you want the negative of a graph, you could start by inverting the graph to make it easier to follow along. Then work the filled in blocks the way shown in this video and the open blocks the way shown in this video. The main difference is the first row would likely be all filled in blocks. So in that case, work a dc in each of the chain spaces between the "borders" of the blocks, instead of working a ch 2 and skipping those 2 foundation chains. If this isn't what you were meaning, let me know and I'll see if I've got any other resources for ya!

To make our first filled in block, we will work a double crochet in each of the next 2 chain stitches to fill in the middle of the block, and then work a double crochet in the next chain to create the left side of the block (this also makes the right hand side of our next block). For our second filled in block, we work a dc in each of the next 2 ch sts to fill in the middle, and then a 3rd dc to form the left side of the block. Repeat 3 more times for filled in blocks 3-5. So really, it's the same idea of working open and closed blocks anywhere else in the project, just this time we work into our foundation chain. Hope this helps! When I searched online for this booklet, I couldn't find a current seller/ebook version, but I did find this Amazon listing selling used versions of the booklet - amzn.to/3f2ZBY6 While that listing has mixed reviews (one buyer wasn't happy with the condition it arrived in), it does show the correct product. I also looked on Ebay, but didn't find anybody selling it there; but it might be worth checking there from time to time in case someone lists a copy. If this weren't a copyrighted pattern, I would have been glad to share it with you! One last idea if you can't find the booklet: fill in blocks on graph paper with the phrase and hearts, and use that as your guide. It might not be an exact match, but it would give a close approximation to the one in the video. To make it even easier, you could also Google "filet crochet letter graphs" to find graphs for the letters themselves. And if you wanted to add a border, you can search for filet crochet borders here on RUclips. Hope this helps!
I started filet crochet 2 days ago and the dc stitches of my filled-in blocks look very spaced apart, specifically the single blocks. This makes the pattern not appear as clean as I'd like. Is this a tension issue? (Idk where else to ask and I learned all the basics from your video. Great tutorial btw)
There's a number of things that could be going on. 1. It could be a tension issue. Some troubleshooting ideas would be dropping down a hook size, opting for normal dc or trying the extended dc, or using a different size crochet thread. 2. The project might just need to be blocked. I don't block most of my projects (mainly because I'm lazy haha), but crochet thread projects are really great candidates for blocking. It helps really define the pattern and make everything sit in the correct places. This can stretch the stitches out a little bit, but I tend to find that even shape that's a little bit looser looks better than uneven shape that's tighter. Here's some info on blocking crochet projects if you are interested - ruclips.net/video/PIiWeRVDCmQ/видео.html 3. Filet crochet looks better from a distance. When we look at it up close, we tend to see the details of the stitches versus the overall image. Also, due to the nature of cameras and focal points, filet crochet can look "cleaner" in pictures or videos than it does in person. So it might just be that images of other people's crochet filet projects look more crisp simply because you are not seeing them in person. With all that said, I would do some experimenting with number 1 above. Then from there, I would try blocking. Lastly, sometimes it just is a matter of practice! My tension used to be very inconsistent when I worked with crochet thread, but now that I've spent years practicing I can get consistent results. Hope this helps! Hi Try double crocheting in to the dcon each space. If you do you may find that you will have squares squares rather than rectangles. If you look at your great grandmother's piece carefullt with a magnifying glass you will see that she has dc in each dc in the space.
What the heck did you just say. Were you trying to say that the squares will be more square if you double crochet into each double crochet? What does dcon mean?

The "bless our home" project is something my great grandmother crocheted using a now-vintage pattern. I don't think they're still printing and selling new copies of the booklet, but there's probably second-hand copies of the booklet for sale online. I don't know the name of the booklet off the top of my head, but when I get the chance I can let you know the title and I'll see if I can find it anywhere online.

Sorry it's taken me so long, but I finally found the booklet with the edging pattern! It's called "Say It in Filet: 6 thread crochet designs" by Betty Phipps. The edging comes from the first design in the booklet. But since it's someone else's design, I'm not able to reproduce the pattern.
So the God Bless Our Home design is not my own, it's from a pattern booklet my Great Grandmother passed down to me. I can't duplicate patterns that are not my own unfortunately.

I work around the chain space. So I'm not inserting the hook through the loop of the chain space but I'm going in the space underneath the chain, which works the stitch around the chain.

I understand what your saying. She is actually pulling the yarn over the hook and not moving the hook. I move the hook and grab the yarn. You know what is even worse. Watching someone yarn over in one motion and then yarn under in the second motion. WTF. I didn't even know there was such a thing as yarning under. I watch people who crochet amigarumi and one lady showed some patterns using yarn under instead of yarn over. There is a visual difference in the finished look and she said it uses less yarn.

So the God Bless Our Home design is not my own, it's from a pattern booklet my Great Grandmother passed down to me. I can't duplicate patterns that are not my own unfortunately.

I think you can make your own pattern by using graph paper.
I keep making six spaces in the foundation row and I don’t know why and it’s driving me crazy
Do you work into the bottom or top of the chain stitch.
I work around the chain space. So I'm not inserting the hook through the loop of the chain space but I'm going in the space underneath the chain, which works the stitch around the chain.

I understand what your saying. She is actually pulling the yarn over the hook and not moving the hook. I move the hook and grab the yarn. You know what is even worse. Watching someone yarn over in one motion and then yarn under in the second motion. WTF. I didn't even know there was such a thing as yarning under. I watch people who crochet amigarumi and one lady showed some patterns using yarn under instead of yarn over. There is a visual difference in the finished look and she said it uses less yarn.
