These original watches were sold through the Marine Corps Exchanges in the 80's. Popular among Recon & Grunts (I was with 1/1 in California) all field Marines and the POG's for "the look". I bought two from the exchange and used them throughout my four years with 1/1. Saltwater, sand, cracked glass, still worked. We put the rubber diver-style protector over the glass to limit cracking and changed the rubber wrist bands with nylon for better comfort. I lost both in training, one on San Clemente Island at night, nylon wrist band cut and one in Africa when launching a Zodiac from a beach. Good to see these back.
Absolutely Hull-Larry-Ous!!!..Our wives must be related...They will never understand our fixation/obsession with watches....My wife threatened the same and I responded "Hit The Road Jack"...lol
When you "ain't got time to bleed," and need a reliable daily diver/tool watch, worn proudly on your wrist, to navigate the concrete jungles of Los Angeles with the confidence of your inner Commando/Predator...this is it. After missing the first round of sales, and while waiting for my SKX009 return from being serviced and regulated (thank you, Marc, for the incredibly quick turnaround), I pulled the trigger and got the watch that was very much a part of my teen years viewing some of the best action films to ever be made. As early Christmas presents go, this fulfilled a dream that was over 30 years in the making.
I just received this watch from my wife (early christmas present). It's that dam comfortable to wear...OMG! I've had a few Seiko and Citizen watches.. All around the $400-$500 mark. This ARNIE is by far the most amazing yet. Cheers for your review 💯💪💗
I loved this watch and owned one back in the 80s. There was a big problem - the outer plastic ring tended to crack. Hopefully they are building, this time around, with better material.
I have an original "Arnie" that I bought in the mid 80's, I was a young soldier and got into SCUBA sport diving. , it still works! I may just get the new solar one to round out the collection.
I ordered one straight after I got the Basel 2019 seiko video. Now I have one. I love it. Is an amazing watch. My new Tag Heuer Aston Martin Racing watch has been retired for now! Get one now! You won't be disappointed.
I am fortunate to have found and purchased an original H558 Arnie a couple years back, but after seeing this review and the power save feature, I may have to get this reissue too! That reveal at 8:50 of the auto correct sold me right then and there!
My SNJ025 arrived yesterday, 4 days ahead of schedule! I am not sure how that happened, but I appreciate the amazing service you and your staff provide. This thing IS a behemoth, but wears well due to the short lug to lug measurement. I could not be happier with it! I love having a battery check feature! It is as functional as my G-Shock Mudman, but much more wearable! BTW, your wife says you’re off way more than half a click!😂
This is awesome. This is my grail watch and now that Seiko re-issue it. This is going to be my only and daily watch. Thanks for the review. Keep up the good work.
I have a protrek prw-s600 that I enjoy greatly, slightly more expensive and way more features. Protreks are meant for hiking camping, skiing, etc, (not diver certified tho) What made me want to say this was that the power saver turns off the display and pauses the second hand on 12 and the hour and minute hand still tell the correct time. I find it so interesting and seeing it wake up put a tear in my eye
Wow! I bought a black faced one just like this back in the 80's. Sold it about 15 years ago and bought an orange face Arnie, and still have it!. Gonna get one of these for sure.
To set the hands you open the crown as if to set the time and hold the light button down until it goes into hand set mode and there you can set the hour minute and even second hands. Fantastic.
For real! I'm on the fence about it for that reason. I need (another) a diver/military spec watch (like I need another hole in my head) with a countdown timer to keep track of my mil spec biscuits and weapons grade 3-meat pizzas to keep them from burning!
Ordered mine !!! Tried to order on the first round sold out so fast though but did not wait when you got the second batch in. Can’t wait to get it ! The review makes me all the more impressed too.
Congrats My Friend, Same Here...It sold out in Seconds but I was on My Game when they were back in stock...Should have mine on Monday, Tuesday at the latest...
Super cool new iteration of a cult classic. should I be amazed a solar watch like this has as many functionality as this one does? If any watch gets a pass on being seemingly larger than normal, this one does. .. actually, all the Tuna's do. Looks good with plastic shroud. BUT, I can imagine mods for stainless steel option, already, which could look pretty damn cool, too. The movement and the tech in it seems impressive. So far, the hands seem to line up perfectly as well as the second hand ticking on each mark which is great to see.
Blimey. Read the manual before demoing it! I have one delivered yesterday and is awesome addition. Only downside is that the alarm is single tone. I have a brand new original arnie and I love the dual tone alarm. I think Seiko missed a trick with using a standard alarm note. But means I can wear the original and enjoy it!
My only non luxury watch is an original Arnie from the 80’s and it’s awesome. Buy it if you loved Arnold when you were younger. Cool watch that brings back the old days.
wow... that movement... wasn't expecting that. might have to get one now. still don't like the prospex logo on the dial but think I can live with it just because it's such a cool watch!
yeah have fun with that matt finish on the watch. I had it on my wrist was about to buy it but as soon i realized this matt rubby feel i had to skip this one. The digital screen looks nice i liked but this rubber feel and heavy weight, made me take it off. The steel is also highly polished which i found to much.
My God! I still have the original version of this watch laying around the house somewhere. I wonder if it's still in time-saving mode. ;-) Another great video Marc. Thanks!
Brilliant! OK its a big boy but like Casio will wear smaller. You could wear a 40 mm all dialer and could possibly wear larger! Its a very cool piece of here and now and very "urban". Cheers.
Nice watch, good to see an update of the Seiko H558-5009. I have the smaller version H556-2009 and is one of my favourite watches. It has Sweet two tone alarm. I have been tracking eBay for a clean H558 for a while, I might just buy the updated version now.
@@johnadams3107 It's all subjective, but just had a look at that G-Shock and personally, it looks clunky, chunky and cheap. And it's £300, not that much cheaper than the Seiko.
Love the watch!! May have to add it to my seiko collection. Need to start working on convincing my wife lol. Shouldn't be hard how can she say no to the seiko brand homage to Schwarzenegger and my childhood memories watching commando and predator hundreds of times lol. Seiko+Schwarzenegger+Predator=must have Epic watch
My buddy had just bought one about 1987. We were paratroopers in Alaska. During a 12 mile foot march that we did monthly, my buddy was wearing it. Started snowing during the march. We finish the march and Ramon takes his gear off and.... watch is gone from his wrist. 3 ft of snow over 12 miles. I’m sure someone found it in the spring.
Its great cool watch i just bought one, however I’m having difficulty to synchronize the digital time with the analog. The digital time doesn’t match the analog😢 tried the reset option but no luck
Was looking at one of these on Seiyajapan and was sure I wanted it (001 model), watched your vid and hit 'Complete Purchase' at the end. Good, informative vid that pushed me over to pull the trigger. Cheers mate. Now the waiting game... :-)
Just bought one and it looks fantastic. Very comfortable soft rubber strap. Watch doesn’t look so big when you wear it. My favourite watch so far and don’t want to take it off. Only downside is that it’s mineral glass. If anyone knows who can do a sapphire modification let me know.
Good review. It's a beautiful retro watch. I was interested, but now I know it's MADE IN CHINA and has Hardlexglass. Overpriced absolutely. When I buy a Seiko, I don't want to pay good money for a cheap plastic piece made in China and I'm not sure how it will stand the test of time. Thank you for the review.
Keep a supply of these for the holiday season-- I see a gift for my brother to make up for the bottlecap I didn't give him and kept for myself last year. ;)
Nice! I have the Fieldmaster "Digi-Tuna" and have been pondering the Arnie, but has been hesitant due to the price tag and the fact that it essentially does the same thing mine does yet has an analog dial. That being said, one of the cons of the Fieldmaster is having to tap it to read it in the dark while a lumed dive dial would be readable as is. Plus, I didn't know the hands would adjust to the digital time as I like being able to zero the watch with a push of the button vs the typical analog method. Still, as I usually do with Seiko divers, it may be awhile before I get one simply to allow the price to settle a bit.
In Commando the props department took the hands off. The watch still had the watch face and dive bezel but no hands. The countdown should be preset to 11 hours....
Question. Screw down (or in this case screw in?) buttons. If it is in 'open' position does it mean 'if you submerge me in the sink I'll die' or 'if you go diving with me I'll die'?
Wanna know something funny... this isn't the only watch he wore in the Predator. Skip to 1:23:49 The watch he has on there looks to be something with a leather racing strap on it. Mostlikely worn during reshoots... check it out yourself lol
I bought one and you would have been my first choice but you are out of stock however I read somewhere that dealers were allotted only a small number to sell.
That's cool. . . . . I'm going to have to seriously consider buying one of those. . . . . be sure to let us know if we an customize those with Your Watch, Your Way.
Just bought my Snj025 and noticed the screw for push button A is a bit loose when unscrewed and not as snug as the screw on push button b. When screwed in you can see that the screw is a tiny hair bigger than push button b. Has anyone else have this issue with this watch before? Thanks!
I bought the Green SNJ031 off ebay as a purchased but unworn watch complete set still with stickers etc, there's also the SNJ029. The so called SafArnie watches as part of the Street range. I have to say after seeing this I prefer the face of the 25 and 27. The watch indices and hands of the 29 and 31 are squared off and look dated. The 25 and 27 look modern and fresh despite the look being decades old. It's weird but just my opinion.
I think you have a point. It was this, a Casio marine gear for arnie but then came the Panerai marina. Sly Stallone and arnie were wearing these when opened planet Hollywoods.
Odd bit of trivia, but Arnold's wrists were only 7.5" when he was bodybuilding. Most of wearing large watches, is having the confidence to do so. I am comfortable at 42-44mm, but I have worn a 47mm a few times, and it really didn't wear that much bigger, but I noticed the weight. Most Seiko dive watch bracelets are 8.25", right out of the box.
Still got my original H558-5009 ‘Arnie’ in great condition and working fine. Nice to see they’ve done a reissue, although not exactly the same as the original.
Ordered mine at a nice discount, should be here next week!!! Super excited (and this is coming from a guy holding out for a Rolex 116500ln Daytona ;) )
The only niggle is that its made in China for 500 bucks. When will the black model be back in stock? I still have to pick this one up. It looks perfect, as a child of the 80s its only fitting I add it to the collection. Is the Tuna shroud pvd or dlc?
Gotta admit that the way the digital display squashes the analog is a deal breaker for me. I just can't unsee it. Wish Seiko had put that display above the six position. My Casio Protrek Safari has a day/date display there. Works and looks perfectly fine.
Marc, I have been a subscriber for awhile, but I think this is my first watch purchase from you. I normally would have done the black as I love black watches and it also is the classic look for the Arnie, but I ended up loving the look of the Padi/Pepsi version. I also have a large wrist, so I love larger cases. So I ordered the Padi version a few minutes ago. Thanks for the video review. If I hadn't have seen this, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. :) I typically only do fully mechanical movements, but this watch has intrigued me.
I read in the manual for this online that the LCD needs to be replaced every 7 years! Really? That is what is putting me off getting one of these at the moment.
Hi Mark. As always, solid work on this video presentation. I am not sure if you'll get to this message, but in the event that you do - do you mind sharon some other types of straps that you recommend for this watch? I took a look at your site and looked at the black leather Nato one, but you were out of stock. Any other ideas? Thanks.

"He's dead tired"
"I let him go"

Very useful that the analog time sets by itself. Not like the JP2000 which you have to synchronize it yourself. Very good Seiko.

I have the Fieldmaster "Digi-Tuna" and have been pondering the Arnie, but has been hesitant due to the price tag and the fact that it essentially does the same thing mine does yet has an analog dial. Hi Marc great review . I first bought a baby Arnie in the late eighties and still love it. Any chance Seiko will re issue the baby Arnie H556 - 5020 ?
In Commando the props department took the hands off. The watch still had the watch face and dive bezel but no hands. The countdown should be preset to 11 hours....

Hey, great video, big thank you to show the watch. I have a question you may be able to answer: Does this watch has a countdown function?
I just purchased this from you today. Great channel.
Definitely want the black
Wish the crowns also came in black!
But still a great looking watch
Thanks!

Oh man, I was JUST double checking in this was available over the weekend. Childhood throwback right here... reallllly want to snag one. Gotta say..
Thanks. Me too!
Works and looks perfectly fine.
it even tells the month and year if you go into the setting time mode, it doesnt normally i discovered that on my F91-W lol
Thanks!!!
@@islandwatch I received my watch and love it. Now I can run around at work yelling... "Get to the choppa!" in style!
I'm torn between the black and Padi Pepsi version. Please help decide...
Just got both today! Just wondering how much they are going to go up in the secondary market and if I should just save them for NOS years from now?
Right now I'm sure they'll appreciate.
I would prefer the pushers on top, bulls head style. So much easier to unscrew them and press.
Gee, you got a big watch. Gee, you got a big watch.
ForlornFreddy because of the echo
My wife's watch was as big a house !
Good presentation Marc. Dont miss the choppa! Get to the choppa! Think I'm gonna nuild my own. Hmmmm Seiko or Orient
🤔🤔🤔. Thanx Marc!
Welcome!
This watch is awesome, definitely on my “to buy” list. The cherry on top would be if it were atomic.
Thanks.
