Nice video, I still have my original "Arnie" I bought for myself in the mid 80's. Still works but I'll be getting the new black diver "Arnie" just to come full circle and round out the collection.
They are definately growing on me! At first I thought the digital display on top looked a little off but the more I look at it, the more I like it! Nice review :-)
I agree - what a cool feature in coming back to life - I guess all us watch nerds just love similar things because I said "that's so cool" as soon as I saw it.
I just received mine today! I bought it for $300 on eBay and I couldn’t be happier. I alternate between the Arnie and the G Shock Mud master with the 3 sensors. The best pair in my opinion.
That keeper will actually slide up onto the corrugated part of the strap. I, too, have smaller wrists. Sliding the keeper up that far has two advantages. It goes to the end of the stub sticking out AND holds it more tightly, reducing the risk of the tail slipping out. Keep up the great Marc!
This is the absolute coolest thing, I'm in loooooooove. You have no idea how lucky you guys in the wider world are, anything like this in New Zealand is not only hard to find but a crap tonne more expensive. Haha so a massive thanks for shipping overseas!
I love these watches. But 500 plus for hardlex, you've got to be kidding! I like Sieko and Citizens design but some of there spec to price ratios are ridiculous.
Hi Mark, great video but I have a question if I may. I'm new to collecting watches and I love Seiko so I saw a a video where someone pointed out that the Seiko Arnie digital display has a short life span and will need replacing this is also mentioned in the booklet so does this apply to the newer SNJ029P1 which is now a couple of years old as I'm looking to buy as used one in great condition. Thanks.
i bought the Ebike vtuvia in camo as seen with Arnie riding it maybe i should get this watch to strap beside control panel lol the tan one looks good maybe a camo Nato strap 🤔
Marc, sorry I might have missed it - is it possible to show different timezone on a digital display? You said the digital time is tied to analogue, but swapping through functions - can we offset the time on digital and display something else?
Mark - I have an H357-5200 but can't find any info on it. It was the pre Arnie from '82 - differnt mvmt but same ana-digi style minus tuna can. Why does noone have info on this watch??
Arrrh bro really after this watch but I cannot decide I already have the original reissue paddy but wont them all i guess ,,,good vid buddy ,,,good info
I so want one of these but I need to find a decent deal to justify it to my pocket book. 😅 Missed a really good deal on BF but hopefully I'll find one again this year....😞
1:38 hahaha I starting to think Marc's bedroom talk goes something like 'Oh baby put on that Seiko and Turn On the lights..oh yeah'.....................
Great demo for the "Arnie". Thanks ! Additionally, your white-dialed Islander is pretty cool. I'd think that the white dial would lend itself to a "PanAm" motif quite well. Is a ceramic "Pepsi" bezel insert available for the Islander ?
I love these watches! I think it's sized the same as the "baby tuna" ...the srp637? I have a 6.75" wrist as well.....I owned the srp637 and the blue Padi variant breifly....too big for me.....sold them both.....if these were sized like the original Arnie I'd be all over them.
Wanna know something funny... this isn't the only watch he wore in the Predator. Skip to 1:23:49 The watch he has on there looks to be something with a leather racing strap on it. Mostlikely worn during reshoots... check it out yourself lol
Hi Marc, How about the Pepsi PADI versioned are the bezel & shroud the same as the green & black models in your video? I’m debating if I will buy the Pepsi as I collect Pepsi’s. I have the 009, the Seiko Prospex SRPA21J1 PADI Turtle, the Tudor GMT Pepsi so Arnie would round out my Pepsi heart throbs. I’m assuming the H851 is a reliable movement?
I have asked this question before but so far I haven't been able to get a definitive answer. The manual states that the digital display needs to be replaced every 7 years. Is that really the case? If it was I can't believe these would sell.
Replying as an owner of the new Arnies. The manual says basically after 7 years it is possible (not certain) the screen may have fading issues. If that is even true we cannot say because the re-issues are out less than 7 years. However there are original Seiko arnies out there whose screens are just fine. As a watch collector I'd say it is Seiko covering themselves IN CASE it happens. Like how Casio severely underestimates the battery life.
Yep. Most Seikos are made in China now, with movements made in Malaysia. Even the "made in Japan" Seikos merely have a "on site" Japanese QC inspector to get the "Made in Japan" status according to METI regulations. The top end (and very expensive) Seikos are the only ones now made totally in Japan.
Anthony Castelluci He wore the original black model watch in Commando (excluding the prop face model for plot and storyline), Predator and Raw Deal it was his own personal model he also wore the watch at the beginning of the Running Man.
@@Phil5150Bower It's looks like there are more mentioned movies in TGV video - "Arnold Schwarzenegger's Most Iconic Watch - A Review Of The Seiko "Arnie" H558-5009 Divers Watch". I don't like how the digi is slave to the analogue display. My eyes don't know which one they want to look at. If they were set at different times I could see the point...
Just wanted to turn you on to a budget head turner; Armitron TY2807SV Mens automatic, display back, skeleton. Swarovski edition. It's actually reminiscent of the mid 90's Rolex diamond, oyster perpetuals... just no datejust, and 5 tics per second, versus a true sweeping second hand. These Armitrons were about $169, new. They're about 20 years old now, and trade the $30 to $70 range. Very common chinese automatic movement, used in many budget skeletons. The hour points MAY be diamond, I don't have a loop, to check. Probably not, as it was marketed as "Swarovski," not "diamond," but they're set like diamonds. Very confusing. Why the fasceted setting, if not a diamond? Why not just a larger Swarovski? You'll see what I mean. Not the best watch in the world, far from the worst, and about the best looking $30 watch, you can get. Especially considering the Armitron reliability, and that at 20 years, it's beginning to amass some vintage. Just thought you might find this piece interesting. Have an excellent day boss! Latr :)

As a seiko fan and a bodybuilding fan I need this in my life.

Thanks Mark. Greets from Australia.. Love the Olive Arnie
Just discovered these; adding to my budget grails list! Great video, Marc!

Hehe... been drooling over these for a while now. But you definitely earn your thumbs up for the 'I'll be back' quip...
Haha, thanks.
Being an Arnie myself, I need this!!! 💪🤣
Built like tank man ! Absolute ripper ... bang for the buck
I've got the black with Rose Gold accents and LOVE IT !!!😁
It has actually replaced my analog 1980 Seiko Divers Automatic Turtle. 😪

Love the Arnie's Marc. Seiko finally did a remake well. I need to get one of these. Thanks for keeping us aware!
You bet!
Remember Seiko when I said the SNJ028 would be the last watch I get from you? I lied.
Its look really really great brother! 👌 Wow ! My favorite diver watch..

how big is dial?- inner diameter of bezzel. because the new tuna is 47mm but without shroud it is a 40mm. just worried it would be too small. thx

Marc you should take off the shroud and see how it looks and wears.
The shroud makes the watch, IMO.
I find these to be really cool!
Thanks.
I have the Arnie I think this looks better still good to have one like the original though.
Really like your Islander watch. Would you ever consider doing a bronze version?
Not at this point.
Loving that model so cool 😋
My Casio Wave Ceptor "springs into action" like that , has a small LCD screen too, and cost less than a hundred bucks.
Is the "self booting" a feature specific to Arnie?
Or is it an across the board Solar thing?
Thanks in advance.

Same shroud, just different colors. The movement, thus far, has been pretty slick.
Yes!!
The sleep feature reminds me of the elegante.
Hi Mark. Will you be getting the blue islander back in stock?
Yes I am!

Yes, you can. Page 30 of the manual.

It's in stock now.
What's better, that crystal or sapphire glass?
They each have their advantages. Sapphire is more scratch resistant, but Hardlex is more shatter resistant (and less expensive).
Seiko now kicking the a... out of the arnie.
The renewal was fine,no more remakes.
the Seiko's are cool, but the white dial islander is awesome, my next watch will be that islander
