The anime occasionally lacks the ferocity, and powerful emotions conveyed in the manga. I'm hoping season 2 takes the anime up a notch, and is on par with the manga, if not better.

Bro anime will NEVER be on par with manga art as amazing as Blue Lock’s. Most manga have absolutely legendary art that can never be matched by anime (unless MAYBE it’s animated by Mappa or ufotable). That’s because mangas are drawn by one person, one person means one style and a much better chance at doing whatever the heck they want with each panel. Anime is animated by multiple people, by companies, aka they can’t just copy what the artist has done and animate because if they did that it’d look really weird and wouldn’t fit in with the anime at all. Trust me, it wouldn’t look good. Plus just the fact that adding colour itself just makes the art lose all its sense of edgy-ness and darkness and ferocity and whatever else there is, so I don’t think they physically can show the EXACT same powerful emotions as the manga unless you want them to animate the entire thing in black and white by one person.

It has smooth animation and you actually get a real good look at whats happening in game.

Me personally, I would watch the anime up until the match against the wanma brothers, and then read the manga, that's really where I started noticing the anime not doing the manga justice (chigiri breaking his chains)
I'd give blue lock season 2 a chance, though, with all the hype it's gotten I hope it motivates them to take their time and produce a wonderful production

Great video mate ! I also read the manga, you summed up my thoughts perfectly at 2:10
One thing that would add about the animation that somewhat goes somewhat unoticed often is the edititing. You were talking about how the action doesn't feel as fast paced and elastic like the manga, well that's what happens when the studio has to stretch the action to a 24 min runtime for 20+ episodes. I strongly disagree that the pacing is fine outside of the intern monologues. Some sequences go into powerpoint mode and the VAs seem to be forced to pace their speech as slow as possible without sounding too off. Even actually "oh this was worth animating" moments like Bachira's very last play end up being butchered with flashbacks shots in the middle of the action when it would feel so much better as an uninterrupted ramp up in tension.
Like yes, the anime has to adapt from the manga but as you pointed out, a character monologuing to himself with flashbacks in the background (like at 9:32) is lightspeed faster that the anime. They could have cut a couple of Isagi's "how can I evolve ? How can I devour him ?" here and there, some of these are truly just repetitions. But it's good padding for the budget. And very understandable, can you imagine having to animate whole episodes where at least character has to be moving his whole body, fast, constantly ?
(also that's truly a nitpick) but why isn't Isagi's aura in the eyes consistently blue (and Chigiri red, Bachira yellow, etc) ?

It's mostly just the visuals for me (and the auras). The intensity in the visuals in the manga are just better imo. And it helps with the hype. I was listening to action music duriing the U-20 and it went SO HARD. The anime isn't bad by any means. I think it's just the perfect example of a mediocre, OK anime adaptation vs a very exceptional manga in the art department. That's all.

The anime has some great moments - the bits of sakuga they have look wonderful - but you ae generally right. However, I expect season 2 to be much, much better because there's no way with the budget they received for season 1 that they knew how big of a deal this series would be.

Tbh I really only like the anime because the certain godly animated moments and it's also easier to watch and understand what's happening and where they're going.
But the manga looks better, is more dramatic and hype, already better moments since they LEFT OUT THE MATCH, or specifically the introduction of shidou, with kunigami and reo vs him.
Anyway the "effects" and color are also better, it's also way more smooth, and yet at the same time it's so rough.

Interesting insights. I never really thought about the anime being lacking on the pacing/animation department but after hearing your thoughts about it, it does make sense. That said, I feel like the things you said here is hugely influenced by you being a manga reader before being an anime watcher. I actually watched the anime first before reading the manga and the anime actually does a great job in hyping its audience up.
Though, like 7-9 episodes in the anime, I just read the manga since it was honestly torture to wait another week for another episode. After reading the manga, however, I started to notice how the anime kinda falls off (although not by much) conpared to the manga. That's why I was able to say that you are influenced by you reading the manga. Of course, this is not a bad thing at all but I kinda just wanted to point it out. Besides, you wouldn't have noticed these flaws in the anime if not for you being a manga reader.

The production committee wanted to release a 24 episode series around the same time as the World Cup imo. It only makes sense due to the fact that Cour 2 looked extremely rushed and the animators didn’t even have enough time to animate it properly. Blue lock season 2 need a better Schedule/Time. Studio isn’t the problem because going off episodes 1 and 2 we can see that having time, you can release top quality episodes so we have to pray that the production committee let the animators take they time for next season. The staff team that produced episodes 1 and 2 need to do all of the episodes with probably a better director. ( BETTER SCHEDULE/ TIME )

My feelings regarding the anime are weird to me. Obviously the CGI is pretty bad, and some of the hype scenes from the story aren't as great animated as they were in the manga, but damn, the voice acting and soundtracks here are insane. How some of these scenes were crafted with all of these things in mind made moments like the ending of the first selection and Bachira's awakening were so damn good the manga elitist in me had to shit up.
And yet, I can't help but feel this disconnected from the anime. I wouldn't say it's the pacing per say, as tbh I think the anime actually paces out the matches pretty well, to me, it's actually the dialogue.
Reading the manga, stuff like 'devouring each other,' and other typical anime phrases didn't bother me but when they were translated into the show with voice actors taking their lines as seriously as they could possible, but _without_ the super edgy artstyle to sell the intensity of the dialogue, then we'll it starts to be more corny to me than cool.
(Although saying all that, yeah ig it really isn't as much as a big deal as the inconsistent quality of movement in the matches, huh I really just wrote all of that for nothing.)

As someone who's seen both, and I don't wanna be that guy. BUT, the manga was better. It provides you with one of the most unique reading experiences and whatever emotion I felt the anime conveyed (mostly hype), was just amplified X10 in the manga. The biggest mistake the anime did was trying to adapt 24 episodes within a year 💀. Like dawg, 12 episodes and ending off at the first selection while fleshing it out a bit more could've worked so much more and we saw the first few episodes having great quality. As you can see during the 2nd cour, this decision led to the anime looking like a ppt at A LOT OF TIMES.

bro, the anime is called an anime because of the animation, if you could animate something as detailed as the manga the episode would to take a month with overwork instead of 1 week, you just have to take into account the timespan they have to make 24min anime episode in 1 week, when a manga chapter which is only at most half of the anime episode also takes 1 week.

  • @ajrodriguez8485

I personally lean more towards the manga myself. I thought the whacky looking CGI and the fact that most scenes were still shots even during scenes where that same character is about to initiate a crazy move just seemed so out of whack. The sheer explosiveness that the manga depicts gets the benefit of our brains filling in the images between the panels, but anime can't do that because it has to *animate* the in-betweens. Otherwise it's just a colored in version of the manga. I did really enjoy how they depicted individual character's strengths through their aura (Nagi's starry sky aura for his blackhole technique is by far my fave). Blue lock needs to introduce interesting angles and movement. Death note is a great example, as most of the show is inner monologuing, but the way it was shot created tension and the erratic movements of L and Light really sucked you in. I think they could take a note or two from that anime and maybe it could help. Also bigger budget

Some of the audio effects on the anime make me dislike it more for example tokimitsu when he’s running and honesty some of the animation and art just does not feel right compared to what the manga has achieved emotionally. The animation in the first episode especially was exceptional but I have yet to seen any traces of that kind of detail and emotion ever since. The lack of frames given to advanced soccer techniques glazes over the technicality and difficulty making it seem almost like a stop motion. Hopefully season 2 is better but I definitely would’ve preferred if season 1 was cut in half and the rest was given more time to be animated.

Or those slow mo stuff. I understand it's hard to make a football anime look hype without showing what's happening in slow mo. I just think they got unlucky that they had to animate a football anime. Because even if this was another sport like basketball, for basketball, you wouldn't need this much slow mos to understand what dahell is happening.

yea honestly I'd say the anime is nowhere near the manga, the anime is like all about over dramatic slow motion while the manga gives you the hype and glory in all of its chapter

The anime is really good. I’m also a big fan of the animation tbh, I don’t know exactly how to phrase it but it’s still very “sports like” if that makes any sense despite blue lock being unlike any other sports manga. And while still feeling almost like a battle anime. I was worried going into it that there would actually be too much detail that would take away from the fluidity of the movements during play. The animation is definitely less intense/dramatic compared to the manga art but for the first season I think that’s completely fine, if it were too accurate I can see it turning people off to it. I say keep the animation style unique and still very fluid, maybe making the animation in key moments more dramatic to accurately depict them similar to the manga in season 2.

WE NEED MORE BLACK EYES, LIKE NAGI FAKE VOLLEY. In general i agree with the video, the music kinda slaps and VAs are really nice, but the animation leaves much to desire. I prefer the manga

They started animating a bit poorly right on team V. first episodes were more fluid and had more liberties with it, after that is just copy paste panels that arent animated as well as the manga

Not a blue lock fan but just wanted to hear what someone had to say about it... Sounds like a good series but I couldn't personally get into it. Though, really not sure how much I agree with the pacing section; I find when manga has to shove in too much dialog it's not great either. Even if you can read fast, it still breaks up the flow of the pages and action. Just cause you can read it very fast doesn't mean it didn't fuck with the pacing, it just means you rushed past it and ignored it fucking with the pacing and flow.

the thing is i find the pacing of the anime pretty good i feel like it carries over the break neck speed of the manga without any major issues
but the hype nahhhh bro the hype is not real in the anime i was hyped to see the two shot revolver fake volley but how it looked kinda disappointed me, it cannot compare how i fucking screamed at some of other's nagi's trickshots like the 5 shot revolver volley while reading chapter 190 i was fucking gasping i stoood up and started screaming holy shit
hopefully the anime is able to recreate that feeling next season or even in the movie

There are some moments where the animation does a great job in executing moments in bluelock that were correctly portrayed. But considering the amount of great art from the manga, the animation does fall short. I'm having a hard time having faith in the animation for the FUTURE arcs.

  • @ortussiridus1680
    @ortussiridus1680 Год назад +1

I agree that the animation is extremely lackluster at times- especially with how it was hyped and how good the first two episodes looked. While the direction isn't terrible, it does stick out at some areas more than other's. And while other things aren't there which is disappointing, I guess I can ignore it since it's not mappa and a lot of the times they get a pass.
The dialogue is pretty cringe though. The dub Fixes this, but I have to prefer the sub.
And of course the audio and music is top notch. I can only hope S2 fixes this and surpasses our expectations.
And I hope the movie isn't all they focus on and just let another studio do it and don't put their eggs in one basket

Anime adaptation is better than your average anime. People instead of complaining should just support the volume or blu-ray release. I have the manga volumes 1-5. Not talking about the video tho.

Thank you for bringing this up. I thought I was just being mean 😅 I dropped the anime, unfortunately. The Blue Lock anime has a similar problem with series like MHA. The manga visuals are so high quality it garners expectations from the readers for even higher quality for the adaptation. Blue lock IMO failed to reach that expectation
