You KNOW you are a sick gear lunatic freak when first thing Monday morning you are looking for Andrew’s epic studio tours to get your weekly fix. I have had studios since I bought my first Teac A-2340S back in the 70’s and it still never gets old seeing other people’s studios. Keep em coming! 👍
I had the pleasure of meeting Vance back in 2004 when I was an intern at a studio in Nashville. He couldn't have been a nicer guy. Thanks for this video.
Now that is a fully featured professional quality studio in a home! Feels cozy, yet has all the goods and acoustics that you would want to record and mix!
I’m never going to forget his idea for pedals. Now I want to have a patch bay on my desk specifically for pedals. Hook it up to some reamp switching thing. Then you can have them Velcroed onto some place or another. Then have the patch bay hook up to your normal patch bay to use in normal mixing as well. It’s a genius way to do all of those things in one place.
Very cool studios indeed. A lot of pride. The guy really knows his stuff technically which is nice. Working with him, you know he isn't stuck on legacy because he understands the tech and can upgrade in his head to decide the best scenarios.
This was super bad ass. Killer studio. My jaw hit the floor when he explained the thing about streaming to the clients car and being able to adjust the mix from inside the car. That's brilliant. I wonder how well it works tho. Spotty wireless streaming can totally kill a flow.
Love the guy. We were lucky enough to be one of the last projects in the old place, back in ‘14. We only did one track, but learned so much. A real audio/production sensei! ⚡️
I am really new to trying to learn music production (Got a copy of FL Studio I barely know how to use and that's about it), and just looking at all this leads me to imagine it would take a persons entire lifetime just to LEARN how to use all the tech just in the studio alone. Absolutely amazing to see this amazing collection, so much stuff in all in one place.
You’d be surprised how much you learn in a year if you really get into it. After 10 years you’d be capable of operating everything in that studio with your eyes closed
Maybe my favorite series on RUclips! Love watching how everyone makes it work from home to full commercial studios ( and all the combinations! ) Keep them coming!!
comment #419 Digging through old archive videos and seeing this one surprised me to know that this is the place and guy that recorded Chris Stapleton. Knowing the success and being able to connect that to what the studio looks like and the way the studio engineer appears does help connect the pieces on what it takes to succeed in the music industry. This place was unique, very different all the way down to the guy, Vance, having his very first sm57 in the closet or the walk in repair room. There are not too many people that have a room for mods or repair in a studio, that's smart.
The "Vibe" of Live cannot be faked ... while there are many great producers doing amazing things with DAW's today ... I feel they miss the boat by not using old-school recording methods with the great new gear of today ... My thought is record like it is still Tape with all the benefits of Digital Recording ... meaning Solid Takes of Heartfelt Performances !
The only way to live your dreams is to do it. You have to make a decision and go all in on it to make your dreams come true. However that's a scary thing for some people to do when we are taught all about financial responsibility and what we "should aspire" to. I once dated a girl whose dad told me music was not a career and that I needed a real goal. People like that are truly the lost ones.
Vance is such a wealth of knowledge, amazing to be in the same room with him and get to sit and talk to him about some of his gear in different tips and tricks. Wizard of Berry hill for sure
Since we are talking about "music recording", just had to say as cool as Vance is it's not his fault what every musician wants to sound like good or bad.
Recording live is not a lost art. It's just that there is a bit of a difference and some nuances between plugging your instrument into an interface and going direct into plugin effects and tracking all your drums using drum VSTs vs a live recording session. You don't have to deal with a lot of the challenges of recording a full live band. However if you are to capture the essence of a band that's the only way to do it! I live not too far from this dude in Southern Ohio and my buddy has a house down in Nashville. I know a few artists down there I grew up with with who are doing well. I need to make my way down there honestly. It's the best music and arts city in this area of the country for sure.
it depends what you mean by non-engineering folks....technically all these producers, mixers and mastering guys are non-engineering guys and they learned the profession on their own...and a fact producers/mastering engineering guys that in addition went to school and learned this on their own would do things and say things technically these guys do not understand unless you have even been in this for at least 20 years + and even so....
Something tells me you're going to start seeing a lot of vertical velcro pedal boards all over town now haha. But man what an incredible studio. Thanks so much for the tour. I only wish he would've spent a little more time in the server closet and got into some detail there.
@@HOLLASOUNDS I agree. What people don't think about is that all that gear is a computer doing the work inside. Well, when you have computers that are as good as they are today, all it takes is a GUI to run the same "code" on your PC to do the same thing the actual hardware does. I LOVE where we are with VSTs and FX on PCs nowadays.
@@KevboKev you can make the sounds but you can't produce inspiration the same with a computer as you do with a physical object that has character and knobs for a musician to touch. It's like a keyboard player inputting guitar or a guitarist playing a guitar. It may be doable but it is not the same. This is a major issue in music today as people lose touch with the physical world. Music is no longer groundbreaking it is simply replication/duplication with digital cut and paste DAW's. I still love the sounds produced by tape they sound real and imperfect as they should.
so i love the studios with tons of natural light, buuuuut, that live room! it would just be fun to be in let alone play with everything! what a great video!
Как бы не была наворочена студия, но проблема всегда одна - каждый звукореж всегда воспринимает производимый музыкальный материал по своему. И будет подгонять его под своё восприятие.
I could listen to Vance talk about recording ALL DAY. Excellent tour.
LOVE listening to Vance talk about recording.
Vance is incredible. I once got to sit on the floor of his control room and listen to him talk. One of the coolest days of my life.
You’re going to start seeing those vertical pedalboards in studios after this, what an awesome dude.
im awesome 2
That was in my opinion, the most well put together and thought out studio you've explored. He's not only brilliant, he seems like a fun hang.
Hell yeah that's what I'm saying
Even had a basement wow

Keep em coming! 👍
Love that he is so cost conscious. What an amazing maze of musical wonder.
Okay THIS wins the prize out of all of them. Just the best vibe, style and tech totally love it and would feel at home instantly 🤩
Just from what I see thats the kind of studio I get invited to and work
holt shit that room with the hanging doors was a trippy work of art
I had the pleasure of meeting Vance back in 2004 when I was an intern at a studio in Nashville. He couldn't have been a nicer guy. Thanks for this video.
Vance is the engineer I aspire to be like. Badass wizard.
Now that is a fully featured professional quality studio in a home! Feels cozy, yet has all the goods and acoustics that you would want to record and mix!
Holy s**t huge inspiration here. Now that is a studio.
This was a tour of my plugins folder, but in real life. What an awesome studio. Thanks for the tour.
There is no way he uses all this gear. Maybe 40% of it. Really stacked studio. Candy everywhere.
Vance is the man, so cool of him to have you (and all of us) over to his spot ~ Thanks for another cool episode, keep em coming!
Thanks for watching!

The pedal wall idea is definitely a gem.

Crazy, sweet, inspiring, freakin awesome... just incredible to be in another MASTERS studio! Thanks again Andrew and VANCE!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Kinda makes Me greatful that DAWs and digital divicses can all fit in a laptop and do the exact same as most of the physical gear.
Love Vance! Not only a great engineer but a great friend!!!

Vance was speaking his mind and i could hear it
Vance is the man. His PureMix tutorials are the best.
What a great guy! I went to his studio for a post NAMM party a few years back....what a great time...he's truly one of the coolest!
Dude is about to record the sound of the whole entire galaxy
That ART Pro VLA just chilling with gear worth thousands. That's awesome.
I have one! Hence, I must have a Grammy in my future as well.
@@rjb7569 🤣🤣 if it only worked that way.
Great info on the history of the airport. Thank you. Things like that interest me.
I'm glad you appreciated that story as much as I did!
So much atmosphere, best studio tour to date

Why is Vance Powell the coolest...
Raise your hand if you saw Vance's mouth move? Nice video btw! 🔥
HO-LY-HELL BATMAN !! We have arrived at the supreme destination. I could work in that room forever.
This is my new favorite channel. How and why did I find it just now...!?!??! Must watch all
Thank you for all your great videos, I know how much work it is. You are appreciated!

A true mad scientist!
The pleasure was all mine. Thank you man.

Love how you’re absolutely nailing your channel for us all. Amazing! 👏🏻
I try haha
Vance is brilliant. You are brilliant. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Vance is one of my favorite engineers, appreciate for this Andrew
that is probably the coolest studio i've ever seen
21:15 - everything in the studio funnels down to one Thunderbolt cable. Wow!
😮😮😮
YES, you finally got him. Vance is my hero.
Pure mix things is so nice to see Vince powell working!
i started imagining him without his facial hair and i cannot unsee it. such a sick studio!!
Love the vibe of that place.
Ok. THAT was a great interview AND studio! Would love to sit there and watch him work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Vance is the coolest dude and a massive talent and the nicest guy on top of it all!
Awesome my son Jordan Voyles is going to love this. Thanks!
What a massive collection of equipment and instruments....
Vance is the man. I particularly love the vintage 1998 Kensignton track ball 26:17. Keeping everything old school!!!
Indeed
Besides, the track ball has greater diffusion uniformity...
Tales from Borderlands! Incredible studio. Creative!
Since we are talking about "music recording", just had to say as cool as Vance is it's not his fault what every musician wants to sound like good or bad.
This studio was crazy dope, I never realized how much power and processing with into a studio
This is a study in creative momentum.
Awesome. What a great place to work!! Thanks for the walkthrough!!
How much gear do you need?
YES!
Holy cow! Nice one!
So neat and organized... I need to clean up my studio area in my bedroom.
Awesome gears with no room acoustics. looks like just collector's house or pawnshop.
Love the house and the studio all in one...942, awesome place to have some real nice fun recording stuff and with friends.
Imagine how much power will consume this monster studio
What a good feeling to see I have almost all the equipment of this studio in my Mac Pro.
no you do not....this guy will blow you away with a hybrid approach digital and analog......but you do not know that until you hear it
Not only is this a great studio, but Vance is one of the most kind people ever. He gives a shit more than anybody else ive ever met.
...and then there is me with my practice amp and a delay pedal...I'm just totally amazed by it all.
Wow, you got Vance Powell? You are officially the Goat!!!
thanks for this series, every monday im like straight on here for it lolllll
Thank you!
It's insane... Having that much gear!
What did I just see?! Wow 😮

damn this place has vibe!! I get so tired of seeing all those perfect and clean studios. what a great place
Sick! Vance is a great and have amazing gears 🏆🎯
Wow! the whole place is genius...love this episode
Most of us call it "The Boneyard". Non engineering folks don't understand the term until they need something from it in a hurry, then they *know*

Vance's puremix vids are enlightening and, well, friggin' awesome! Awesome studio, awesome video.

Holy moly, this was worth the watch!
That studio is insane. So cool.
low-key you also know your shit and you can tell Mr. Powell appreciates that.
Thought about recording here, but I'm looking for a place with more outboard gear.
Something tells me you're going to start seeing a lot of vertical velcro pedal boards all over town now haha. But man what an incredible studio. Thanks so much for the tour. I only wish he would've spent a little more time in the server closet and got into some detail there.
It looks cool but most of that gear can and already has been replicated in Daws.

Best one so far!
Happy to hear it!
Fun video. I enjoy seeing tours of established studios and interesting homes.
Lovely organized mess. Nice change from all the clinical type studios!
That set up is mind blowing.
Proper tried and tested classic gear. Mono pultecs as well I see.
What an amazing studio. Inspirational.
I can't imagine ever needing that much gear!
i love his studio soo much.. do you see a PC ?? No only one tablet and a huge raid. Oh my Gosh this is a great technology
Awesome, found this well worth the price of admission.
Vance convinced me to the BURL stuff. Awesome video. 😍🥰
