I have a Enviolo CVT on my ebike, which uses a twist mechanism to change gears but its twist forwards to change down a gear and twist towards to change up. Took little time to get used to but I get confused when the head unit tells me to change up and down. Also a big benefit is that I can change down a gear when at a stop. Brilliant in urban settings at junctions and traffic lights.🚦
It sounds like you've got a unique setup with your Enviolo CVT! It's great to hear that you've found a big benefit in being able to change down a gear when stopped - definitely a handy feature for navigating urban settings. Thanks for sharing your experience! 🚲
This a really Nice video!! Idk much about gear cycle, so I was shifting gears while riding my 21 gear cycle. Then, I stopped peddling in middle and was riding the momentum. When I shifted gears during this time (Without peddling) , the chain went out of order or something and I couldn't move. Luckily my friend came by and helped. It was just a matter of adjusting the chain and then he explained all about 'how not to break your gear cycle on the very first day 😂 '
Hi and thanks a lot for the positive feedback! 😊 It's awesome that you're exploring and getting the hang of using gears. That little incident with the chain can happen, but it's great that your friend was there to help out and share some valuable tips. If you ever have more questions or want to share your biking stories, feel free to do so. Happy riding, and remember, you got this!💪
We as kids in tje fifties didn't have RUclips- we're on a farm 50 miles from nearest town. If the bike chosen for you showed up, with no idea what did what - You simply turned it upside down - and simply watch everything that moves by pedaling by hand a constant slow Speed at pedals, now shift it while watching the Speed of wheel increase or slow by what gear was chosen. Keep eyes focused on rear gears - Move the shifter all the way to number 1 and watch chain move to that gear and see that chain is now on the largest gear... Now skip all through the gears to highest number - still moving pedals - never stop pedaling by hand during this learning step. Now shifter at highest gear - Notice how much faster wheel spins, but you didn't pedal faster. This is what gear you would have selected if slightly down hill - and takes no effort to pedal. But if the road starts to go up hill, it will now be very much harder to pedal in that high gear, you'll be forced to move shifter to a smaller number and if still to much work, hit the shifter again and again till its easy to pedal. It the hill is so steep, that it's hard to walk up, that first gear is now top high, and now you'll need to use the other shifter to move the chain to the next smaller sprocket, and now the rear sprockets get used again 1_6 only much slower speed but more power - no different than heavy load for truck to make the hill, where they too have to select a lower gear slower speed but much more power - even though engine speed stays near the same speed. Just like the speed your legs move is the engine speed - your pedal speed doesnt change that much, but the bike either goes faster with little effort, or slower up hill with same leg power and pedal speed. To simplify- If your legs can no longer provide enough power to get up the hill - too high a gear, you need to quickly select a lower gear that you can now pedal easy, but will be slower speed getting to top of hill, and as soon as it's possible, with now a level road again, move shifter again through higher gears that your leg power is happy with and gaining speed easily. Keep a finger or two over Rear brake lever at all times at higher speed to keep speed in control when turn is coming up, whether it's coming to a ramped curbing to a sidewalk approaching a store front you want to stop at. Don't worry about what gear it's in while stopping at a store, as soon as packed up ready to roll, you'll be shifting what's needed to enter tje street... And number one rule - Alway face traffic head on with bright headlight so traffic always see you Two famous hockey players were just killed on their bikes last week - we're run down from behind, leaving them no choice to defend them selves vs Watching traffic head on, you can see possible threat, and escape further away, into shoulder or ditch, and if if makes you crash - That's OK, You're Still Alive. If you don't have lights on your bike, never ride it around traffic, stand in front of it with head light on,,, Does it make you take notice,, if not, Get a better light. I was appointed safety officer for the United States Airforce in 1972'. No one was allowed to operate a bicycle or motorcycle in bad condition or unsafe manner. So parents- better make darn sure kids always have a safe fun time on their bikes. You are the only one, that matters when they leave the yard. Take them out to the bike - flip it upside down and you both go through all the steps to make their brains fully understand how simple machines work. When you both are on the same page, life just became much simpler and safer. Cheers and oli those chains. If I come by and see your chain rusty... that simply says, you really don’t care. Just leave the bike lay on the ground like stepped on Coke can trash. I'm working on one of them right now.

That was very interesting all the new gear levers that you showed the Twister shifter I bought them but I've never heard I haven't used them yet so I don't know much I don't know anything about him it seems like it seems like the easiest shifter that you showed a while ago the twist shift I think that's the right name I've never used them either but it seems like they more easier than all of them I found your video very helpful because you said there's a lot of things you said a lot of things on there that I didn't know about I've never heard of these ones before but I did buy the trigger shifter but it's coming from China so I probably won't get it until febuary I enjoyed your video very much thank you
Hi, thanks for your kind words and support! I'm glad to hear that you found the video helpful. I hope the trigger shifter arrives soon so you can try it out. Thanks for watching!🙂
I thought the video was going to explain what gears I should combine. My bicycle has 3 gears on the left and 7 on the right. I'm looking for answers for how to combine them. What gears should I combine? What gears should I not combine to avoid cross chaining.
Hey, thanks for your comment! I get that you were hoping for more info on which gears to combine and avoiding cross-chaining. However, the video you've ben watching was meant to give beginners a basic understanding of how to change gears on a bike. The video you're looking for, specifically about cross-chaining, is currently being worked on and will be out in a few months. So, stay tuned for that one! It'll give you more detailed guidance on avoiding cross-chaining and finding the right gear combos. If you have more questions or need help with anything else related to cycling, feel free to ask. Enjoy your rides, and keep an eye out for the upcoming video on cross-chaining!🙂
Hi, thanks for your comment and for your question. I'm glad you found the video helpful! As for your question, the front and back gears don’t need to be at the same number. In fact, it’s often better to use a combination that provides a comfortable and efficient pedaling cadence.
Hi Susie, you're most welcome. I'm pleased you found the information helpful and that you can now fully embrace using all the gears on your bike👍🙂. If you need any other advice or have any bike-related questions feel free to reach out. Happy cycling🚲
Thanks for your positive feedback!🙏 I'm glad you found the video on how to use gears on a bike helpful. It's always great to hear that the content is appreciated. If you have any more questions or if there's anything else you'd like to learn about biking, feel free to let us know. Happy cycling!🙂
Hi, and thanks for your comment. I wish to help but I can't offer you any advice without seing the bike. You might want to go to your local bike shop to seek help there.
What I don't see explained is the "ratio" of left and right gear levers. My bike (a Raleigh) has, on the right handle 1-7 gears, and on the left, 1-3. On flat roads I usually find 5 or 6 (R) and 2 on left, comfortable. However Im not sure what ratio should be, when cycling uphill. Should BOTH sides/gears be in lowest, i.e. 1-1? And more importantly, do I change to lowest before I reach the incline or gradually change down? Sorry for all the questions.😢
Hi, and thank you for your question. I wish to offer you a straightforward answer however It it really depends on what feels right for you. Everyone's different, so what works for one person might not work for another. You'll need to try out different gear settings to see what feels comfortable and helps you keep your momentum going. It's kind of like finding the perfect pair of shoes - it's all about what feels best for you when you're out riding. I hope this helps.🙂
You didn't explain the one thing I'm trying to learn. When do you change the big cogs? Because if I'm in the top gear of the rear cogs and I want to go up a little bit, I can't, I have to either go straight into a much heavier gear, or drop the rear gears back few before changing the front one. What's the proper way to cycle all the way through the gears?
Hi, and thanks for your question.Bikes with front gears typically have two or three chainrings at the front. The larger chainring provides harder or "higher" gears, while the smaller chainring offers easier or "lower" gears. Choose the appropriate chainring based on the terrain. Use the larger chainring for flat or downhill sections when you want to pedal more efficiently. Switch to the smaller chainring for uphill or challenging terrain to make pedaling easier. Anticipate upcoming changes in terrain or your riding speed. Shift the front gears before you reach a steep hill or a fast descent. This prevents sudden and jarring shifts in resistance. Coordinate your front gear changes with adjustments to the rear gears. For example, when shifting to a larger chainring at the front, consider shifting to a smaller cog at the rear to maintain a consistent pedaling cadence. Spend some time practicing in a safe environment to get a feel for how different gear combinations affect your ride. Experiment with the gears to find the combinations that work best for your comfort and riding style.Keep in mind that getting the hang of using the front gears might take a bit of practice. The key is to understand how they work together with the rear gears to make your bike ride smoother. Don't be afraid to try different gear combinations and tweak things based on the terrain and what feels comfortable for you. If you have any questions or run into specific situations, feel free to ask for more help!
Hi, and thank you for your question,. I love to help but without seeing the bike it's extremely hard to diagnose the problem and I wouldn't like to offer you incorrect advice. I'd recommend having it checked by a bike mechanic to ensure everything is functioning properly.
When You Take Serious Care of Your Bike, It Automatically Takes Care of You. Making you smile the second you're pedaling. You'll See. And get a mirror mounted that allows to see everything behind you at a quick glance. Turning your head is just too dangerous, that can make one lose their balance and steer into danger. Cheers
Hi, and thanks for your question! It's great that you're curious about the mechanics of wheel gears. No, you don't have to keep both wheel gears at the same speed or use the same gear numbers. Bikes are designed so you can mix and match front and rear gears to suit different terrains. It's like having a toolbox of options for how easy or hard it is to pedal. Feel free to experiment and find what works best for you. Change gears based on whether you're on a flat road, going uphill, or cruising downhill. The gears are there to make your ride more enjoyable, so use them however feels right for you.🙂
Hi, and thanks for your comment. Good for you for being ambitious!🙂 Take your time, experiment, and gradually you'll find the right balance for your riding style. If you have any questions or need guidance, feel free to ask. 🙂
Hi, thanks for the question. From my knowledge the rolling friction refers to the resistance that occurs when the bicycle's tyres roll on a surface. Let me know if this is clear enough
Higher gear means it's harder to pedal but you can go faster. It's perfect for flat or downhill terrain where you want to go faster and make the most of your pedaling power. Lower gear means it's easier to pedal but you won't go as fast. Lower gear is great for going uphill or tackling steep terrain. It helps you pedal with less effort and maintain control. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out🙂.
Hey, thanks for your question. The answer is: it depends. You will need to discuss this with the e bike kit manufacturer or dealer to see if it will fit on your bike. Good luck with that and let me know if you managed to convert your bike to an electric.
Hey! you can change the front and back gears independently of each other. They dont need to be changed simultaneously. For example, if your bike has 3 gears in the front and 7 in the back, you can make 7*3 = 21 combinations out of them! Ps it is just based on what combinations of gears suit you the most on different surfaces/conditions.
Hey Jim, thanks for your question, and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Just like the other viewer said you can use your left and right gears separately. The front gears are responsible for making significant changes in your gear ratio and are used less often. The larger chainrings provide higher gears, which are suitable for faster riding on flat terrain or downhill. The smaller chainrings offer lower gears, which are helpful for climbing steep hills or riding in challenging conditions. The rear gears provide finer adjustments to your gear ratio and are used more often. The smaller cogs on the rear cassette provide higher gears (you go faster but the pedaling feels harder), while the larger cogs offer lower gears. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions or need more advice please get in touch (I promise I'll reply much quicker next time🙂).
Hey, thanks for doing my job for me🙏😀. I've been so busy recently and feel awful not being able to reply to viewers' comments. Luckily I have people like you. Thanks once again🙂
Ho, i have city bike with twisted gear, max at 6, for road climbing, i should use lower gear right., 1-3? For normal road and to get more faster, is it 5/6? Which one is correct? How about when you stop at traffic light or when you park the bike? Which gear should i use. Please advice. Thanks in advice.
Hi and thanks for the comment. If you struggle to move the shifter to the higher gear then this could indicates a problem with the shifter or a gear cable. I have a video that can help you diagnose the problem here: ruclips.net/video/TokUOhUzEe4/видео.html . Let me know if it was helpful.
Hi, thanks for your question. I would love to help but it sounds like it's a job for your local bike shop. They will be able to investigate the problem and sort it out for you so you can enjoy riding without those bangs and jerks and clangs. I hope you will sort this out soon🙂
While shifting you should only pedal lightly or slowly enough not to engage the back wheel. Pushing hard on the pedals while shifting will cause wear and noises, especially on the front gears.
Hey, thanks for the question. it depends what type of shifter there is on your bike. If it's a flat bar shifter then it should only be one click to move the gear to the next one. Some drop bar levers have trim shifting option. Trim shifting on bicycle drop bar gear levers at the front refers to a small adjustment made to the front derailleur position to eliminate chain rub against the derailleur cage when the chain is in a certain gear combination. When you shift gears on a drop bar bike with front derailleur, the chain can rub against the front derailleur cage, especially when you use the smaller chainring and the larger rear cassette sprockets or vice versa. This can cause annoying noise and wear on the components. Trim shifting allows you to make minor adjustments to the position of the front derailleur by shifting it slightly inwards or outwards using the small shifter located on the left side of the handlebar. This adjustment moves the derailleur cage just enough to prevent the chain from rubbing against it, ensuring a smoother and quieter ride. I hope this helps:)
Hi Kingsley, thanks for the comment. I'm pleased that you found the video useful. Yes, there's a video in the pipeline where I will explain all about q-factor. It should be published in the next 2 months so stay tuned🙂
@@kcwitch1 I understand, it does feel like a long time. Unfortunately, until our channel grows enough to make ends meet we are able to only make one video a week as we still have to work full-time. So the next six videos that will be published are already uploaded and scheduled on RUclips. Don't worry about what the numbers are. Always just remember that the thumb shifter always pushes you to a bigger sprocket whether it's the front or back. The pull trigger always shifts you to a smaller one.

Hi Fiona, thanks so much for your lovely comment🙏🙂. Did you meant to leave a comment on this video:ruclips.net/video/rTzhWfb1Cwk/видео.html ?
It was just a matter of adjusting the chain and then he explained all about 'how not to break your gear cycle on the very first day 😂
'
Hi and thanks a lot for the positive feedback! 😊 It's awesome that you're exploring and getting the hang of using gears. That little incident with the chain can happen, but it's great that your friend was there to help out and share some valuable tips. We as kids in tje fifties didn't have RUclips- we're on a farm 50 miles from nearest town.
If the bike chosen for you showed up, with no idea what did what -
You simply turned it upside down -
and simply watch everything that moves
by pedaling by hand a constant slow Speed at pedals,
now shift it while watching the Speed of wheel increase or slow by what gear was chosen.
Keep eyes focused on rear gears -
Move the shifter all the way to number 1
and watch chain move to that gear and see that chain is now on the largest gear...
Now skip all through the gears to highest number - still moving pedals - never stop pedaling by hand during this learning step.
Now shifter at highest gear -
Notice how much faster wheel spins,
but you didn't pedal faster.
This is what gear you would have selected if slightly down hill - and takes no effort to pedal.
But if the road starts to go up hill, it will now be very much harder to pedal in that high gear,
you'll be forced to move shifter to a smaller number and if still to much work, hit the shifter again and again till its easy to pedal.
It the hill is so steep, that it's hard to walk up, that first gear is now top high,
and now you'll need to use the other shifter to move the chain to the next smaller sprocket,
and now the rear sprockets get used again
1_6 only much slower speed but more power - no different than heavy load for truck to make the hill, where they too have to select a lower gear slower speed but much more power - even though engine speed stays near the same speed.
Just like the speed your legs move is the engine speed - your pedal speed doesnt change that much, but the bike either goes faster with little effort,
or slower up hill with same leg power and pedal speed.
To simplify- If your legs can no longer
provide enough power to get up the hill -
too high a gear,
you need to quickly select a lower gear that you can now pedal easy, but will be slower speed getting to top of hill,
and as soon as it's possible, with now a level road again, move shifter again through higher gears that your leg power is happy with and gaining speed easily.
Keep a finger or two over Rear brake lever at all times at higher speed to keep speed in control when turn is coming up,
whether it's coming to a ramped curbing to a sidewalk approaching a store front you want to stop at.
Don't worry about what gear it's in while stopping at a store,
as soon as packed up ready to roll, you'll be shifting what's needed to enter tje street...
And number one rule - Alway face traffic head on with bright headlight so traffic always see you
Two famous hockey players were just killed on their bikes last week -
we're run down from behind,
leaving them no choice to defend them selves
vs Watching traffic head on, you can see possible threat, and escape further away,
into shoulder or ditch, and if if makes you crash -
That's OK,
You're Still Alive.
If you don't have lights on your bike,
never ride it around traffic,
stand in front of it with head light on,,,
Does it make you take notice,,
if not,
Get a better light.

When you both are on the same page,
life just became much simpler and safer.
Cheers and oli those chains.
If I come by and see your chain rusty...
that simply says, you really don’t care.

It'll give you more detailed guidance on avoiding cross-chaining and finding the right gear combos.

this was super helpful! I’m wondering, if I have both front and back gears, should they always been at the same number?
Hi, thanks for your comment and for your question. I'm glad you found the video helpful! As for your question, the front and back gears don’t need to be at the same number. In fact, it’s often better to use a combination that provides a comfortable and efficient pedaling cadence.
Very informative, thanks.

Hi, and thanks for such a lovely comment.🙏 I'm pleased that you iked the video. 🙂
Pls pls can you tell how to fix or any tips to prevent the gear from making any sound
What would be a good gear for not a lot of strain on the legs but good for momentum

Mam I have the roadeao hank cycle if I shift in front wheel some sound coming from there any problem mam
Hi, and thank you for your question,. I love to help but without seeing the bike it's extremely hard to diagnose the problem and I wouldn't like to offer you incorrect advice. I'd recommend having it checked by a bike mechanic to ensure everything is functioning properly.
When You Take Serious Care of Your Bike,
It Automatically Takes Care of You.
Making you smile the second you're pedaling.
You'll See.
And get a mirror mounted that allows to see everything behind you at a quick glance.
Turning your head is just too dangerous,
that can make one lose their balance and steer into danger.
Cheers
Is it compulsory to maintain both wheel gears at the same speed or same gear numbers may be ?
Hi, and thanks for your question! It's great that you're curious about the mechanics of wheel gears. No, you don't have to keep both wheel gears at the same speed or use the same gear numbers. Bikes are designed so you can mix and match front and rear gears to suit different terrains. It's like having a toolbox of options for how easy or hard it is to pedal.
Feel free to experiment and find what works best for you. Change gears based on whether you're on a flat road, going uphill, or cruising downhill. The gears are there to make your ride more enjoyable, so use them however feels right for you.🙂
As a begginer you know i am going extreme
Hi, and thanks for your comment. Good for you for being ambitious!🙂
Take your time, experiment, and gradually you'll find the right balance for your riding style. If you have any questions or need guidance, feel free to ask. 🙂
Can u only change the front gears up if the rear gears r on the highest gear? 😅
One question, what does the friction do when riding a bike?
Hi, thanks for the question. From my knowledge the rolling friction refers to the resistance that occurs when the bicycle's tyres roll on a surface. Let me know if this is clear enough
What is higher gear
and lower gear
Higher gear means it's harder to pedal but you can go faster. It's perfect for flat or downhill terrain where you want to go faster and make the most of your pedaling power. Lower gear means it's easier to pedal but you won't go as fast. Lower gear is great for going uphill or tackling steep terrain. It helps you pedal with less effort and maintain control. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out🙂.
Thank you :)
You're welcome:)
can i convert my regular bicycle to a E-bike?
Hey, thanks for your question. The answer is: it depends. You will need to discuss this with the e bike kit manufacturer or dealer to see if it will fit on your bike. Good luck with that and let me know if you managed to convert your bike to an electric.
Sorry I'm still a bit confused. Do you change the front and back gears independently of each other or both together?.
Hey! you can change the front and back gears independently of each other.

For normal road and to get more faster, is it 5/6? Which one is correct?
How about when you stop at traffic light or when you park the bike? Which gear should i use.
Please advice.
Thanks in advice.
how do you addjust gears
More restrictions resistance higher gear.
The lowest gear is the biggest?
While peddling I press until it clicks. Then my bike bangs and jerks and clangs. So I put it back. How to I fix this?
Hi, thanks for your question. I would love to help but it sounds like it's a job for your local bike shop. They will be able to investigate the problem and sort it out for you so you can enjoy riding without those bangs and jerks and clangs.
I hope you will sort this out soon🙂
While shifting you should only pedal lightly or slowly enough not to engage the back wheel. Pushing hard on the pedals while shifting will cause wear and noises, especially on the front gears.
My shift gear is broken i to put on the new parts
Hi Larry, thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear that, it must be frustrating.
so should i like push the up gear trigger in the rear side and hear 2 clicks instead of 1 in the front side of gear
