Very relatable. I belatedly came to the subculture at 36 because I feel at home with the music, the sentiment and the fashion. But I have no intention to adopt a stereotypical goth look just for the sake of it. If that makes me a poser in your eyes, that's not my problem.
Touch of irony here as the true goth is very well read (think 19th century literature/poetry ) and far more interested in this than their social media status!
@@Laura-q2k6p There are other details but a lot of people generalize it to include a bunch of totally unrelated stuff. @@sylph8005 In common language and for most people goth is used to describe a dark esthetic generally. Its dark deep etc.. If someone only likes the music perhaps its more appropriate to call him a goth rocker. The term was used to describe a certain genre but there is an underlying mood and tendency. Its all about labels and definition and not that important really.
@@GothicCrypt The source of confusion is that people use 'goth' in a more general sense, referring to its underlying mood and all types of its expression, that at least in Europe. Just look at the variety you find in gothic or dark festivals. Some insist to call it 'Dark subculture' and goth being a part of it, but its not really a coined popular term. Why go against the evolution of the term and everything it inspired, and the meaning it acquired in common language. Goth rock is not the end of 'goth', its just the beginning. @@Laura-q2k6pwell said, I basically agree with your view. "Goth" can certainly not be limited to gothic rock. That being said, I still find nothing "goth" in this clip/song. I hate to sound like a purist, but girls in black kinky outfits are not enough to even loosely relate something to "goth"...
This elder goth quite likes it because it is rightfully making fun of all of those white-face painted 'trad goth' people who put others down for not looking exactly like them. Friends don't let friends wear white-face.

@@peteb760 I started getting into the music in 86 and started going to clubs in 88. I can count on one hand the amount of times I saw people wearing white-face back then. Seriously, almost nobody wore it, and the people that did wear it tended to get photos taken of them because they looked more 'out there'. 99% of the people going to clubs back then didn't wear it. Oh, and I never once saw people wearing white-face out in the wild in the 80's/90's. It just wasn't done, because it was considered over the top and too 'try-hard'. Musicians wearing it is a whole other game because they are on stage being theatrical, so their make-up is of course going to be more theatrical. I doubt they are wearing the look on a daily basis.

The only thing that is goth in this video is the dude's T-shirt....
