Frankly shit happens. Equipment dies, i heard one time someone was performing and a stage hand knocked a audio cord lose killing audio . The wires go bad , the lightning goes nuts, the screens stop working. It happens. Its very rare but it happens and like joel said its every musician nightmare. It's how you handled the situation
the pyrotechnic penguin yeah but even though it is a cable, those mixers are indeed known for locking up randomly for no reason. Look at pro audio forums and pages, some audio professionals are making fun of presonus for the exact same reason. I once saw someone shared deadmau5' setup to one of those pages and the only thing they mostly talked about is how or why is Joel using a StudioLive mixer. He's lucky that he haven't experienced such thing yet as it is way worse than getting a cable unplug as most audio engineers said that a crashed Presonus console is unrecoverable and the whole system had to be restarted. Though I've seen him upgrade to the new one recently which is far more stable than the older mixers, so I hope that he will never experience that thing.
Alex Lee When I was at high school there was only one guy operate all the lights, and if that guy happened to go and take a relief sometimes, there'll be no one at the console. Large stage like the one in the video might have more than one guy dealing with the lights I guess, but who knows, maybe they just have one guy there so that they only need to pay for one guy XD
Lights are programmed to meet the performance but this is an emergency. Also, it's possible that the computer on the stage is controlling lights directly, considering that you have to sync the lights on beat.
Reichsführer SS My theory is, if the light was controlled by the computer on stage (or just by an automatic program stored in the console), then that console guy might not act quick enough to manually turn on the light and point it to the stage when the connection is broken. At least I think we can all agree that the console guy didn't do a good job dealing with such kind of emergency.

Columbia absolutely has a sound ordinance at 11 but things came to a halt at 10:53 and plenty of time to finish in a less confusing way. Kinda lame after putting up with the screw ups.
If he doesn't have some sort of suspension system to stop vibration causing issues that's ridiculous, people have known about that with turntables for decades. Just Google "Turntable Isolation"
